  1. Maybe I'm missing here: DCA, up until recently, was a Senior drum corps organization. If some corps fairly recently decided they want to allow members under 21 (the rule in the old days) - why is it DCA's responsibility to monitor these corps for anything? The corps who decided to allow younger members have the responsibility to "police" their members and staffs. Look at DCA's "about " page: http://www.dcacorps.org/?page_id=56 There is nothing there indicating it has *any* control in re a corps' day-to-day activities, membership criteria or staff makeup. Pretty much all DCA does is help with venues and provide judging sheets during the year for corps who wish to compete at DCA-sanctioned events. (Not all senior shows *have* to be DCA-sanctioned.) The only "control" they have is at their Championships (proof of Music Rights et al). And all a corps needs to do to compete at Prelims is show the Music Rights, pay their Entry Fee and show up at the scheduled time. *Everything* else is the individual corps' responsibility. Again, am I missing something here?
  2. The Alumni corps do! (Not sure about competing corps)
  3. Question: How can a non-European corps compete at the European Championships? (Do they have a European sponsor?) DCI and DCA don't bill their Finals as the "US Championships" or "North American Championships", but "Drum Corps Europe" seems pretty specific... (Shrug) Understand, I've been a Rene-Fan for over a Decade and I think it's a great move on their part. I'm just curious how this works... Can the Renegades also compete at the DCUK Championships if they want? How about DCJ? That might possibly be closer... Heck, the Renegades could be the first true Internal Drum Corps on the Planet! Heh...
  4. When I first moved to Florida in the mid-70s there was no Container Law - including having one in your car while driving. You also didn't need a separate Motorcycle License (it was considered a two-wheel vehicle, just like a bicycle) and the only Insurance you needed for it was PIP, which ran about $14/year. We still don't have a Helmet Law - but now you need to pass a motorcycle driver's test and the insurance runs as much as a car. How times have changed... Oh well, at least they did away with Vehicle Inspections! Heh...
  5. Part of a write-up on the 1966 American Legion issues: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3114/2353890183_4bf9b2da28_o.jpg
  6. Just for the record: The Renegades were suspended for one year, not banned. They can come back in 2014 if they so choose...
  7. [OT] Latest from my Web Host: "First of all, we would like to thank you for your patience in dealing with this ongoing matter. Just as an update, at this time we have mitigated all malicious activity and the server is now free of all unauthorized content. As a reassurance, no malware, spyware, viruses, etc were uploaded to our server. A vulnerability in a program running on the server was used to replace home page files on many sites throughout the server, but again the page it was replaced with was not harmful in content and posed no threat to viewers. In addition, all of your data should have remained secure, as the vulnerability only allowed for uploading of website files, and not downloading of non-publicly accessible data. Most of our customers' sites should be back up and running now; however, there are a few exceptions with errors occurring on a few sites (the malicious content has been removed though). We are continuing to work on these issues as I speak and we will update you on an individual basis if applicable. We are still unsure of who or why this attack was made against this particular server, but we will be investigating that over the next few days and update you as soon as we have more information to share. We understand that having compromised data is quite scary, and we want you to rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to ensure that this does not happen again. The vulnerability found was removed immediately and will not be causing any more issues." We're back in business! [/OT]
  8. Yeah, I reported it to my Hosting Company. Hopefully they'll fix it soon...
  9. That was indeed Mike DeMeo in 1992. He helped bring the Brigs back after 21 years... (He was also a "guest soloist" in Empire's Finals performance this year.) His roots go back at least as far as the mid-60s Magnificent Yankees from Utica, NY...
  10. I know nobody cares, but *my* take on all this: Crunchy Frog "Got It"... I&E/Mini used to be a night to blow off some steam, party with some friends and just entertain a crowd. Almost every Minicorps was made up of competing corps members that just loved to play; nothing more. (Especially when I&E/Minis came after Prelims) Scores were irrelevant (105!?) - it was all about Camaraderie and Just Plain FUN for performers and fans alike. Now it's all so.. gal-dang serious, what with recording rights/expenses and all, that most of the FUN has been taken out of it... (Shrug)
  11. Is the Fancast feed over? Last I heard was the announcer saying they were waiting for the Top 5 scores, then got a "Windows Exit" sound and the screen switched to the DCA Logo. (Timer's still running, but...)
  12. I went back and re-watched several corps during the Intermissions and rain delays. I just checked, and I can still slide the Timeline back to the beginning... Does anyone know if this will be available after tonight? (For those who purchased it, of course)
  13. Yes, if you're connected anyway... The feed has a "DVR" function where you can slide the Timeline back wherever you want to see a corps again... Pretty cool!
  14. Kudos to the Fancast crew: We got over 10 hours of live feed, with hardly a glitch - and got to hear a pretty good DJ! (Grin) Great job, folks!
  15. It could actually negatively affect their performance - and their Placement - at this point. MBI at least has sitting in wet uniforms for about 3 hours... How fair would it be for these three to DROP in placement because of this?
  16. Come ON, folks! Let these poor souls go back to their hotel, dry off and get something to eat!
  17. (It was like for years - Prelims during the day, Finals that night)
  18. IMO, they shouldn't even try. None of these three are going to be at their best...
  19. I agree; it isn't fair to the corps or the fans at this point. Let the last 3 go on in the same order as they would have tonight...
  20. (Phil Collins "I Wish It Would Rain" on Fancast.) Heh...
