What goes around comes ... DCI Vinyl!
deftguy replied to Boybugle63's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
We won't know this unless they try or at the least investigate the possibility. Streaming wasn't built on folks like Taylor Swift. It started with much smaller acts, and the big names jumped in. -
What goes around comes ... DCI Vinyl!
deftguy replied to Boybugle63's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Streaming beats both of them by a long shot. "Just over 41 million vinyl records were sold in 2022, to the tune of $1.2bn" "Revenue from streaming, which includes "paid subscriptions, ad-supported services, digital and customized radio, social media platforms, digital fitness apps and others," grew 7% to a record high $13.3bn. It accounted for 84% of total revenues. Perhaps DCI should look into a streaming option - ad-supported, or subscription. https://www.bbc.com/news/64919126 -

The information you are quoting is incorrect, so I will accept your retraction on this statement. -
A minor question about Flo
deftguy replied to 2muchcoffeeman's topic in DCI (All) Corps Show & Event Reviews
Just a guess. Roku B is closer to the router, and Roku A is closer to the extender. If I am correct, reboot the extender and see what happens. It sounds like you are having a progressive audio latency issue. This is why all of my streaming devices are wired rather than wireless. You avoid these kinds of issues by keeping as many things wired as possible. -
I second this. I have every DCI championship on DVD and Bluray, and if they kept coming I would keep buying. We are transitioning into a subscription and rent era where you own nothing. When it comes to my home entertainment, I would rather own it than lease it. I do not care if it is a physical disc or a digital download I can store on my NAS, I want control of the content I purchase.

I love Tarpon Springs. They are hipper than hip for sure!

2023 FloMarching Streaming Schedule

It is clear from these comments that Flo's flow is going in the wrong direction. -
Yes, we did make a statement! That uniform died a pure evil death after the season was over.

This is a very interesting proposition......

How Does the Activity Expect to Survive.
deftguy replied to Ashontheinternet's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I am not sure Drum corps would be dead, but it would certainly be relocated. Drum corps could be successful indoors in an arena size space much like they do in Japan and South Korea. If you want to save Drum corps, putting your head in an old-school bench "vise" is probably not a good idea. -
High School Band Directors and Drum Corps
deftguy replied to PopcornEater1963's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Can I guess your son's high school is Vista-Murrieta? If so, no wonder they encouraged drum corps. VM's band is very good. -
Tarpon has been my favorite band in BOA since 2010. Each year I cannot wait to see what they put on the field. The Tarpon Colorguard is just sick good. Year after year, they have one of the most difficult equipment books on the field.

"Unfortunately 1 out of 5,6,7 or 10 in leadership would not constitute diversity. How many members of the entire staff on the Cadets are Black? 2?" The first part of my statement was general and did not apply to anyone (the Cadets nor any other organization was mentioned). The second part is the question does apply directly to the Cadets, and that is patently clear. Please read what is stated and not assume anything. If you need clarity, just ask.

I did not imply anything, I asked a question. You are reading FAR, FAR, FAR, too much into my question. If you didn't like that question, you could have bounced on to the next one. You are supersop, not supercop, so relax, and move that flag pole out of thine nether region. I don't want your apology, and I didn't ask you a dang thing. There are a lot of posts that shouldn't be here, why don't you go play supercop with those.

You need to pump your brakes here. I asked ONE QUESTION. Can anyone tell me how that is pushing anything????? You really need to chill on the overactive emotions.

WGI suspends Diamante - abuse investigation
deftguy replied to mingusmonk's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I am floored, sickened, angry as hades, and profoundly sad after reading this. Color Guard changed my life in so many positive ways I would be exhausted trying to name them all. It's a love I embrace to this day, and I just can't imagine loving something so much, and then having such a bad experience doing it. -
Meanwhile, on the left coast

I think the South Pole got jealous when the North Pole lured Santa Claus's headquarters, training center for flying reindeer, manufacturing and distribution plant there with very generous tax breaks and subsidies. -
Time to make all electronics part of the performance?
deftguy replied to grimmo's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Actually, its not a theory. A scanner can snoop on all frequencies being broadcast within a specific area. A person with experience using one could easily distinguish that traffic from a conversation happening between two, three, or four people as is scans through all its frequencies. -

IF they learned the skill, then that $5000 could pay them big dividends in the future. I basically got my start mixing from working as an intern. My labor was free (and was probably more than $5000 in the end), but what I learned allow me to get into film school, and then do quite well in the film and music industry. I would gladly pay $5000 to learn this skill.
