  1. Just a few thoughts: 1. Blue Devils- How about some Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, or something similiar? You were always the king of jazz in drum corp and I know Wayne Downey can arrange it so tastefully. 2. Phantom- How about Symphonie Fantastique? I like what the previous poster mentioned. 3. Cavaliers- Don't change much except a little more technical stuff in the brassline. Don't touch the percussion; great pit/ battery. Guard is great as always! 4. Madison- How about some Madison jazz? Selections that the audience can really get into. 5. Cadets- Drop the narration. 6. SCV- Please bring back music that your audience is familiar with. Also, a cleaner visual program earlier in the season, so you don't have to play catchup.
  2. I agree, but there is still a little room for somebody else to move ahead. If somebody gets a higher score, it's going to be very close.
  3. Blake, I was actually happy to see the dragon brought back in. That was a Brubaker move from 1986/87. Nothing is wrong with that. To me, if fit the theme of the show. Michael Gaines is very innovative with his drill.
  4. Blue Devils were really good, but I would put Cavaliers ahead of them. I also enjoyed Phantom's show much better. I think Phantom could sneak ahead of BD tonight depending on their visual scores. To me, Blue Devils were not that exciting compared to Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment. Just my opinion.
  5. Old school.........what year? I don't remember seeing many of their moves before and I've been around the Cavaliers since the 1970s. That was when they did old school.
  6. I've never liked Blue Devil's drill design. Yes, it's clean , but not as demanding as Cavaliers or Phantom, IMHO. This is going to be very close.
  7. This is going to be a close one.............Cavies were extremely clean and very musical! Yes, Phantom had the crowd behind them, but Cavaliers are extremely good too. Too bad Cavies, BD, Crown, and Regiment weren't doing these great performances on seperate years. This is one of the better years for performance at DCI. Congratulations to all!!! No matter who wins, they are all awesome this season!!!
  8. Why is it that the 2007 DCI Finals show cannot be viewed yet on fan network? There are already several 2008 shows to watch, but not 2007. I was thinking by now they would have them available. Does anybody know when this will happen?
  9. 5th. I think Cadets will catch them due to difficulty of program. Phantom will definitely leap over them. I think both Cavies and BD will stay where there at in the top 3. I still hope SCV pushes higher.
  10. Not this year..........Eric Johnson wrote all of the pit parts. I remember Jim talking about allowing Eric to take over the pit stuff. Jim still wrote the battery.
  11. I want to see the new drill changes Cavies put in. Tonight, they will be doing several new movements. Pete does write great stuff, but it is hard to clean.
  12. Yes, the audience gets into SCV's show. Much more applause for them than the Cadets.
  13. The audience didn't give much applause. I expected more. I believe that the crowd really didn't appreciate that show.
  14. After reviewing the recaps, I would have to say that percussion judge #2 kept Madison out of finals. He had them 11th, while the other judge had them 4th. I believe that caption was what kept them out of finals.
  15. I have either Crossmen or Madison in 12th still. I wish Madison had gone on a bit later. That could hurt their placement. But, I've seen stranger things happen over the last 33 years of watching this activity.
  16. Tone does get rough at times with the Colts. Their drill design seems to have a lot of moves that others have done in the past. Not too original. I don't mind the use of material from West Side Story. I just felt that their dynamic contrast wasn't enough. I don't think they will make finals. I still am thinking either Crossmen or Madison. I'll probably be wrong.
  17. Spirit is having many problems visually....holes and dirty. The musical book is just not very exciting to me. I guess maybe it's better in person. Great drumline, but horns are not up to par with past Spirit lines. The drill is quite boring IMHO.
  18. The energy was really on for Madison! I think they might squeeze in. I wish their guard was like their guards of old. These guys weren't together. This seems to be a young guard that needs more time to get that needed experience. Rest of their show seemed to be the best they've done so far. We'll have to wait and see how Crossmen, Spirit, Colts, etc. do. Go Scouts!!!
  19. Ok, I will make my prediction: Blue Stars Glassmen Blue Knights Madison It would be nice to see both Crossmen/ Madison get in. Maybe we can have a tie for 12th. That would be nice........13 corps in finals.
  20. I have three corps that I hold dear to my heart: 1. Cavaliers- Why? Because I had the honor of marching with them in 1979. I wish I had marched another year or 2. Big mistake not going back. We all learn. 2. Phantom Regiment- Why? I first saw them live in 1978. They impressed me with their look and sound. Classical music on the field- what a concept. 3. Madison Scouts- Why? I first saw them also live in 1978 and they were performing Malaguena. Power, excitement are the two words I can think of to describe that show.
  21. My wife is one of the biggest Billy Joel fans. She saw him live in the 1980s and she could tell you the name of the songs in the Cavies' show. Musically, last years' show was very entertaining. My wife isn't a big fan of drum corps, but last year, she really liked the Cavaliers.
