  7. I want to thank everyone for their contribution! There are a lot of great memories here. This was the end of my performance time, but it made for memories of a life time. Thank you all, Michael
  8. Thank you for your note.  I apologize for the delay getting back to you, just finishing up a bout with the flu.

What I am looking for is a special memory from the 71/72 period.

Changes in instrumentation (especially percussion), music, and drill were beginning to take place during this period, though small changes then, would grow into the drum corps environment of today.  Looking back, did you feel the impact of change or did it seem like a build block to what your corps was already doing?

Thank you for what you do with The Academy!  I remember covering them as a Division II Corps and really enjoyed covering them the past couple of years at Finals in Indy.  Look forward to hearing back from you.  I can be reached directly at michael.carlson@mac.com

    Thank you,

    Michael

  9. Good Evening, I am working on a look back at the 1971-1972 drum corps period for an upcoming article for Drum Corps World, and looking for memories from drum corps members and fans of that period to incorporate into the article. This period was not only the kick-off of Drum Corps World, it also marks a time of what may have seem like minor changes at the time, but looking back have had strategic implications on our activity. Yes, DCI came into existence and the first shows kicked off in 1972, but there was a lot going on the East Coast, the West Coast, the Midwest, Canada, and with the senior corps that often doesn't get covered. So, if you were engaged as a performer or a fan at that time what do you remember most about the period? Your favorite show venue? What about the crowds? Do you remember the small town shows? Your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing the memories! Michael Carlson

  11. Hearing the opening notes of Cavaliers' "Bully" in 1967, and never looked back.
  12. One of my favorite shows last year! Really glad to see how well they did at Michigan City!!!
  13. Looking forward to seeing the corps on the field this summer!!
  14. We've come close in Nevada a few times, but no cigar! But we continue to be a prime recruiting field for much of the western corps!
  15. The very best this season and look forward to seeing the corps this summer in Northern California!
  16. Interesting conversation regarding Music City. Each year they present an enjoyable show usually with great potential. What I have seen in the past is a challenge to tighten up the show for a major competitive push when the corps hit the ground at Michigan City. Have watched the Michigan City rehearsals the past few years, and not sure where the answer lies. They are a very good corps and can always be counted on for an entertaining presentation! The very best this 2017 season.
  17. Congrats to Carolina Crown!! Welcome to California!! Am looking forward to tomorrow night in Stanford.
  18. Bought tickets at the door last year. No problem, same price.
  19. Does anyone know the selections from Les Mis SCV is performing?
  20. Regarding Les Stentors, I believe "Little Brown Jug," Bandstand Boogie," and "In the Mood' are the corps' parade material and won't be included in the field production.
  21. Rita & I stopped by MARS a couple of weeks ago to watch the corps, and must say they are pretty hot. The design concept borrows a bit from last year's Raiders design. Surprised it took so long for someone to combine the music of Danny Elfman and Michael Daugherty in the same 12 minute production. Overall, a really enjoyable show! Can't wait until the Stanford show!!
