  1. I don't remember the last day being any different than the other days of finals week.
  2. When I marched eons ago, we had probably 30 minutes plus of additional pieces we learned and rehearsed. Firebird, Bacchanale, Ave Maria, Nessun Dorma, Spartacus, and a few others. It was nice to be able to play more than just the 10 minutes of show music all summer. You can still work on your sound by playing music other than your show. I also liked it better when the winning corps got to do the encore, but if they're going to go with this system where they choose beforehand then only corps that will put on a good performance of something other than their show should be eligible. At least that's my opinion. I also really like cadets encore when I've heard them. Haven't heard vanguard in a long time. Cavaliers are OK, nothing compared to regiment and cadets though.
  3. I like Regiment encores and any corps that plays stuff other than their show again. I was not happy last year when I saw Regiment at a show and BAC got the encore and just came out and played their show again. If you can't be bothered to learn a few other pieces than your show, then you shouldn't be doing encores in this dumb system where they pick the corps beforehand.
  4. It's because the second place announcement is the big one. That's when the winner knows that they won and that's when you get the craziest celebration. The first place announcement is just a formality after they announce second place.
  5. I can't vote because I never got to see '96 live.
  6. I don't see what the problem is. I don't think anybody in Phantom Regiment was disappointed to get the medal draped around their neck on Saturday night. Here's a picture of my medal from 1996 when I marched Regiment. I don't think it looks too bad. Remember, this is non-profit DCI. I would hate to have thousands of dollars that could go to the corps to help them out financially go instead to a fancy medal that will be worn once.
  7. We didn't have to pay for our rings as members in '96. Mine is pretty boring and probably didn't cost all that much. It's what it signifies that makes it worth so much to me. Mark, I'll give you $10.00 for your ring. That way I can wear one on both hands!!!!
  8. I can't help but laugh at people thinking the blue devils got screwed by a big conspiracy theory when they have 12 championships. If DCI hates the blue devils so much, then why have they conspired to give them so many championships or is it just a conspiracy when they don't win?
  9. I remember Cavaliers playing "Over the Rainbow" for us in '96 after we won. It was really cool.
  10. I don't remember people getting angry in '96. The crowd went nuts for us winning our first championship. Yeah, they weren't happy in 2000 after it happened the second year in a row and I think it was good for DCI to put in a tie-breaker, but I sure don't remember the crowd getting angry in '96. I do admit my perspective on the field that night was a little unique and I could have missed some of the reactions and only look back with rose-colored glasses now. :)
  11. And the DCI lawyers that let them get into such a one-sided contract. DCI, PLEASE put the entrance in the DVD. It sets the stage for the show that follows and is essential to getting the whole experience.
  12. I don't think anybody's forgetting that. Go back to any year where the scores were close and you could find a caption where if a corps scored a little better they would have won. It proves nothing. They didn't so they didn't win, including the many years where Regiment came close but didn't get the title. Check out Regiment's drum score in '89.
  13. BD was one of my favorite corps up until I marched my first show with them and lined up next to them at retreat. I couldn't believe how rude and awful some of their members were at retreat. And this was just at a random show in Pennsylvania. It was really disappointing and I know that I can't label a whole corps based on the actions of a few, but I know that if any of our members had acted in that manner our section leaders would have put an end to it pretty quickly. I wouldn't label them as having no class, but they sure don't treat retreat with the respect that many other corps do.
  14. It would have been deja vu for me. I would have been happy for them, but I also would have been disappointed that they had not gotten their own title yet again. I never see posts on here with people claiming that the cadets only have 8.5 titles or the blue devils only have 11, but I have seen many disparaging Regiment for only having "half" a title. I'm so happy for the staff, volunteers, and alumni that have worked so hard to get the corps back up to the top. This has been a long time coming and it's nice to have another regiment corps win a championship.
