  1. Should have worked harder to prevent Reagan from being elected, IMO.
  2. If you actually used the word "leftist" correctly, then maybe this would wash. Nothing about "inclusion" is leftist.
  3. In sum, being inclusive is not the Cadets problem. It’s a feature, not a bug. The problem is a bad design and no real organizational direction, for years now.
  4. I didn’t. It’s “baby boomer tripe,” because it’s exceptionalism largely, but not universally exhibited by many baby boomers and the next mini-generation that follows. “Social justice” matters to kids and no one should make them feel bad for it. Life is hard but it doesn’t also have to be mean.
  5. These kids have ten times more talent than we did as kids and they work ten times as hard. Deriding them as “soft” is insulting and gross.
  6. Omg get this baby boomer tripe out of here. Everybody else is horrible, but not my kids! No sir, not mine!
  7. Cute, but not mutually exclusive. Please take your terrible takes elsewhere.
  8. IDK, man. Usually I'm upbeat, but design- and talent-wise, we're playing checkers and everybody else is playing 5D chess. If we make it back, it's gonna take a very long time and a huge amount of money and energy.
  9. This cannot possibly be true. Take a look at our electronics, and then take a look at Bluecoats' electronics. We're a kid in his bedroom with a Casio and a tape deck, and they are a Skrillex show.
  10. Some of the best instructors and designers in the business are "Golden Age" Cadets and are working with other groups. Why is that? Because no one wanted to work for GH. GH is gone. YEA needs to decide that it's time for these folks to come home. Staffs win championships. Our championships also created great staffs... for other corps. Namely: Bluecoats' visual co-caption heads (yes, both) Bluecoats' brass caption head Vanguard's guard caption head Boston's brass arranger Boston's artistic director Boston's drill designer (About half of the rest of Boston's staff) Crown's drill designer Crown's brass arranger Crown's percussion ensemble coordinator (About half of Crown's visual staff) Phantom's brass caption head Etc, etc.
  11. Sevierville, Tennessee. I am just dropping in here to say that I *love* this show and I think they'll pass BD. The slow, no-synth part near the end of the show is the effect of the summer, IMO. The horns are just going for it, with no electronic support and they are nailing it. GO GO GO GO!
  12. We were outscored in brass by the Mandarins. Where do we go from here?
  13. In my day, we’d have run through a brick wall for that guy on most days. He was for some of us the only father figure we had. Sad, yes, but I wouldn’t broadly say that he treated us poorly. We rehearsed a ton but we also needed to rehearse a ton because individually we weren’t exactly BD-level talent. IMO.
  14. As I said to another poster, I'm not sure where you got your law degree, but you should ask for a refund. Grasping at straws, bro.
  15. Soooo... why this disaster of a show, if she has such amazing design talent?
  16. I don’t know where you got your law degree, but you should ask for a refund.
  17. Sure, but there was no reason to engage with her directly. None. Bad mistake.
  18. Whatever the facts, YEA never in a million years should have engaged with the author directly. A huge misstep. All they ended up doing is created evidence. This is why lawyers cost so much. They save you from shooting your own stupid foot.
  19. I don't think anyone is discounting the members of the Boston Crusaders. I mean merely to say that all things being equal, a finalist corps can move up into the middle tier with a great staff. The 2017 BAC proved that. See also the 2002 Magic of Orlando, who went from not existing in 2001 to 10th place in World Class by hiring an A-list staff, many of whom teach the Boston Crusaders today. The activity is design-driven to a fault, IMO. Those short days matter less with a great design and a great staff, until you start getting to the top tier, when those short days matter quite a lot.
  20. Since so much of the sheet is based on how the show is designed, going from 12th --> 6th can be done merely with an all-star staff. The difference between 6th and the top tier comes down to effective rehearsal time in many cases. The Cadets used to thrive on rehearsing the most, simply because we had middle-of-the-road talent compared to BD. Now that we've fallen down a tier or two, we have to find a way to deal with less rehearsal and still excel. We aren't doing that yet. I hope we can get it turned around.
