  8. the VFW show went downhill fast after 71, in 72 i think there were only about 4 corps that made DCI finals in that show and by 73 only one, after that it was not considered a major show ,if it was really after the 71 season! so after 71, i dont think many worked hard for this title, cause many did not even go! but, on the other hand, the World Open continued on for years as a premier national show with many big name corps attending, same with CYO(which was called the CYO national championships, and the US Open, which was called the US Open national championships) the World Open was not always held in mid season, only one i can think of was in July(some as late as august 22) and same with CYO(which were around august 10th to 29th) they also included many western and mid western corps(including yours) and were not east coast bias! in fact, if you look at the list, from 68 to 76 only one east coast corps won the CYO show! here is a small list, CYO 1968 august 24th won by Troopers(dont think they are east coast) CYO 1969 again won by Troopers CYO 1970 once again won by Troopers CYO 1971 won by Blue Rock (ok, they were east coast, but kingsmen were second and SCV were third followed by Troopers, looks like some western corps there) CYO 1972 won by Kingsmen CYO 1973 won by Blue Stars CYO 1974 won by Madison, Kingsmen 2nd, Kilties 3rd, Troopers 4th, none of these are east coast, august 13th CYO 1975 won by Madison, Blue Devils 2nd, SCV 3rd(no east coast bias here, and on august 11) CYO 1976 won by Blue Devils, Madison 2nd, and held august 16th CYO 1980 won by Blue Devils, SCV 4th, Troopers 6th august 16th i dont see the east coast bias or what i would call mid season shows either! World Open 1970 won by Troopers on august 22nd World Open 1971 won by 27th with SCV 2nd, Kingsmen 3rd along with Troopers and Argonne, several west coast corps! (this was one of the few mid season ones, july 17th) World Open 1972 won by Kilties on august 5th World Open 1973 won by Bridgemen on august 3rd World Open 1974 won by Kingsmen with Kilties 2nd on august 10th World Open 1975 won by Blue Devils with SCV 2nd on august 9th World Open 1976 won by Blue Devils on august 14th here only two east coast corps on the above list won in a 7 year span! US Open 1969 won by Kilties with Argonne 2nd on august 16th US Open 1970 won by Madison with Kilties 2nd on august 10th US Open 1971 won by Blue Rock with Madison 2nd on august 14th US Open 1972 won by Kingsmen on august 12th US Open 1973 won by Kingsmen on august 12th US Open 1974 won by Madison, SCV 2nd, Blue Devils 3rd on august 10th this show i would consider mid west, but of the 6 years listed only one east coast corps won. so, what i see in the above lists are alot of mid west and western corps at these shows, and many times all the best corps from the west and mid-west did attend!many winning them! i just do not see the east coast bias here! and these were real national championships!! and one more show to toss in, the Danny Thomas Invitational 1971, won by 27th with SCV 2nd and Troopers 3rd, day after World Open, this i would not consider a national championship(but a great lineup) could this be why you have the east coast bias thing going? coming in 2nd to 27th twice in two days?
