you actually have no clue what really went down, what was done, and decisions made. so, allow me to skate close to the line of where mods shouldn't go.
even before any decision were made or moderation began, because we did not cave to some folks ideas of what social justice should be i was sent messages by members of that page threatening me and my family and my home. why? because i and the team would not let them run hog wild on the FB page. and yes i reported those messages to facebook and some authorities after sluething on who the posters were. when decisions were made and actions begun, even more threats came and thru sluething we found a coordinated effort to hijack the page run by people tied to some organizations in drum corps. so we doubled down on the bad actors, and came up with the approach taken.
so, while you feel suppressed, i felt attacked. would you like it if i sent you messages threatening to have your home torched? or to have your ### kicked? No i dont think you would like it. so if the DCP FB page and how its moderated...a group unpaid effort when we have time may I add...isn't to your cup of tea...then #### off.
"because we did not cave"
Yes, that is where you went wrong. This was the appropriate time to "cave." That you view temporarily allowing the Facebook group to be used as a platform to spread such an important and humane message as "running hog wild" speaks volumes about your character.
edit: also, "some folks ideas of what social justice should be" is absolutely abhorrent in this context. This isn't some cutesy debate with 2 equally valid sides. You have no business being in a position of authority on a public discussion board. None of you do.

I’m lost... does Ream own DCP or does he own FB.
Seriously the insults and mind reading is the last thing anyone in this country needs....
He's one of the 7 admins of the DCP Facebook group.

actually it's not suppression. if you read the pages rules, it is set up to be a DRUM CORPS discussion page, not a political or social justice every post page.
Actually it is. Nobody cares about your little rules. At this precise moment in time, the appropriate action was to forget about drum corps for a little while and let your platform (small as it may be) be used for something good. Instead you decided to go on a power trip in the name or "order" or whatever. Look at the world around you right now. Is that how you want to look?
You made the wrong choice. Hopefully you've learned from it.

The DCP FB group is not suppressing BLM, if you read the post on the group. They created a thread specifically for BLM posts, so that the entire group is not overrun. I am not an admin in the FB group, but it makes sense to me.
Aside comment on photos...FB does not require photographs, so the background of any particular FB member is not automatically a "given" as was intimated in a prior post here.
That’s suppression. Trying to keep uncomfortable discussion in a neat little side topic that is easy to ignore. The entire point of the BLM movement is to force white people to confront the reality of modern white supremacy. To make it impossible to ignore.
Any action to restrict or police that message is wrong. Particularly at this moment in time.

Glad more corps are making these statements. I know I've also seen updates from SCV and BD using much of the same language. Heartwarming to see.

I'll be bummed, but I'll understand.

That Metamorph disrespect. Come on now.

Sell your semis tickets and hang out in the lot that night. You get to see every corps perform on the field at least once, and you get to experience an even better “show” on Friday night.

Disrespecting Cavies 2000 should be a bannable offense.

wow, Tom Blair edited out Brandt's embarrassing "Blue..... coats" in the retreat on the Blu-ray. He just says "The Bluecoats," must have been sampled in from the GE announcement or something. Not sure how I feel about that.

I vaguely remember but can’t picture the corps.

If you don't mind, when did you get it and what method did you go with? I bought it on the first day pre-orders were available with next day delivery and haven't gotten anything through DCI, FedEx, or UPS.
Order placed Dec. 31 with 2-day shipping.

Yeah, I got a shipment confirmation with tracking number. Should arrive on Tuesday.

What’s notable about this? Guys have been going from Madison to Cavies just about every single year. For decades now.

McKinney show this year too, almost literally right in my back yard. Love it.

I don’t think you would ever see a full line of woodwinds on the field it would be for solos small ensembles in the pit area stuff like that
Can't they already do that? I thought any instrument was legal from the sidelines.

Decades begin with the year ending in the numeral 1 and finish with a 0, so this is not the last Monday of the decade.
No they don't, stop being weird.

For woodwinds, I'm an advocate, so it is what it is. For those exclaiming "if the numbers don't change, it's a moot point," I say maybe only for corps who already max out that number. For corps that have difficulty getting members, it WILL increase their ranks. Maybe Encorps can get to 55 if they allow woodwinds. It will certainly challenge any of their creators who are traditional drum corps types!
And I'm 100% behind Michael Martin's proposal to limit micing of the field brass. In fact, I'd take "Anything goes instrumentation, numbers, electronics, and pit amplification" if micing of field brass was outlawed! No shotgun mics either. I basically quit over this issue, so if Michael Martin can get it resolved, maybe I'll go back to teaching. Hey, if that's their plan, and Cavies still marching 16 tubas, maybe I should send them my Contra Tech Resume, lol.
The ironic thing is the two proposals could be mutually exclusive. You’ll need field mics if you march woodwinds. DCI groups thankfully don’t follow the “concert band on the field” methodology anymore. Today’s brasslines are playing loud. Where do marching woodwinds fit in to that?

Well i'll be darned... it finally happened.
I actually never imagined this rule would be proposed.
Didn’t Hop propose it multiple times? It always gets voted down. Hopefully it does again here.
As for the others, seeing amplification limits being proposed is heartening. New DCI rules have been out of control for a while now. Sometimes limitations are good.

The rest of the country isn’t terribly significant when it comes to the marching arts.

If I had to guess, the licensing deals are made for a set time period before needing to be renewed, and the 13-25 groups probably don't sell enough to cover the fees demanded by Tresona.

Again, this isn't an issue where you get to just agree to disagree. This is a serious, somber matter that should have been handled with understanding and respect. Jeff Ream's dog whistles are deafening at this point, it's pretty obvious what he really thinks about the whole thing. Vile.
