The correct link for Heat Wave Of Florida's website is www.heatwavedrumcorps.com The reason for the name was to honor the history of Drum Corps In Florida. Heat Wave Of Florida is preparing for its 3rd season of DCI open class competition (2017) and has grown dramatically since its inception. I was the founder, but had wonderful support from many DCI and DCA veterans, as well as band directors who supported how & why this was happening. Florida needed a DCI/Junior Corps. They were all a very big part of the growth of this organization. This year, Jon Otero has taken the reins as President and Executive Director, while I remain in a supporting role as a Vice President of the Board. He's doing a GREAT job, along with the wonderful administrative and instructional staff we have, growing and sustaining the momentum.

Famous people in Drum Corps
BennyBassDrum replied to dcf06's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
The original drummer from Blondie was a Bridgemen, as well as Ed Toth from the Doobie Bros, and many more. Madonna was never in the Bridgemen from Bayonne, she was in a Michigan HS band called the Bridgemen. -

Cities that could sustain a new corps?
BennyBassDrum replied to C.Holland's topic in DCI Open Class Corps Discussions
Honestly, I don't think its a matter of the size of the city, its finding financing, recruiting, organizational stability, and the willingness to put the work into making it happen. So many said to me that where we located (in Inverness, FloridaHeat Wave Of Florida), it couldn't be done, but we did it. Now, its a matter of growth, organizational stability, and financing (as I said before). At one time, there were over 240 corps in the state of New Jersey alone. This isn't a guess, its a fact, and many were small corps. Heck, Florida could easily sustain 3 or 4 DCI Corps, it just takes time, and hard work. There is growth happening across the country, it just takes solid planning & hard work.
