  1. Even the most elite of soccer academies in STL (one of the best in the country) is just a few thousand more that the average summer tour cost. There has to be a reckoning soon.
  2. USSF (US Soccer Federation) runs much like DCI...they sanction leagues, develop competition and stadium standards, define each tier. However they do have the power to sanction a league for not being able to follow regulations...they've done it before (NASL, NISA). However, just like DCI, they don't use the power enough and that why there are issues in the NWSL. They could pull a leagues license and deem anyone playing in an unsanctioned league as disqualified to participate in USSF sanctioned teams (USWNT, USMNT, USYNT).
  3. Neither went to Indy/Marion in 2019 either. I understand why, probably finances.
  4. i read that on that guys facebook page, if true its definitely a weird reason to can someone with the success he's had
  5. Spirit released their design team, officially...i dont think they will tale it down this time... Sal Salas returns to Spirit for his seventh year as program coordinator and artistic director. For over 50 years, Salas has been an icon in the marching arts designing programs for world-renowned corps such as the Madison Scouts, Glassmen, and the Santa Clara Vanguard. Salas first led Spirit in the '80s as a drill designer writing the corps' visual programs from 1983 to 1990. During that time Spirit of Atlanta would win two color guard caption awards at the DCI World Championships (1985, 1987). Salas is also distinguished as a hall of fame member of the Winter Guard Association of Southern California, Midwest Color Guard Circuit, and Spirit of Atlanta. Gilles Ouellette (program manager) is one of the premiere visual designers and adjudicators in the marching arts with design experience in Winter Guard, Winter Percussion Ensembles, College and High School Marching Bands, and Drum and Bugle Corps. Gilles has been the Visual Designer for the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps from 2002-2007. Gilles is a past assistant director for the Boston Crusaders and Visual Designer for the Glassmen (2008-2009). Jamey Thompson (drill designer) returns to Spirit of Atlanta for his fourth season and has been a fixture in the DCI community for over three decades designing for corps including the Phantom Regiment, Madison Scouts, Glassmen, Empire Statesmen, and Connecticut Hurricanes. Jamey holds a bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Loyola University. Michael Martin (Brass Arranger and Brass Caption Supervisor) stays home to Spirit of Atlanta as its brass arranger for his fourth season. A distinguished Spirit Alum, Martin is an accomplished trumpet player in the Boston Symphony and the Boston Pops. The son of corps founder Freddy Martin, he attended Northwestern University, where he received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in trumpet performance. He has performed with orchestras worldwide, including the Atlanta, Baltimore, and Chicago symphonies. Michael has worked with several corps, including the Cavaliers, Phantom Regiment, and The Academy. Adam Wiencken (percussion arranger and caption head) returns to lead the Spirit of Atlanta percussion team for a fourth season. He is the Director of Percussion and Battery Arranger for the Pride of Broken Arrow Marching Band, a frequent Bands of America (BOA) Regional Champion and Grand National Finalist. His drum corps credits include stints with the Blue Stars, The Cadets, Santa Clara Vanguard, Troopers, and Crossmen. Adam is an alumnus of the Madison Scouts and The Cavaliers. Matt Filosa (front ensemble caption head, arranger, and audio designer) returns for his fifth season. Matt is a freelance percussionist, composer, and arranger currently residing in Fort Worth, Texas. Co-owner of the marching arts design company Synced Up Designs, Matt writes, designs for, and teaches marching bands and indoor percussion groups all over the country. Matt is the sound designer and front ensemble arranger for several WGI and DCI finalist groups, most notably PIW group Music City Mystique (co-arranger) and the Cadets (Sound Design). Matt earned his bachelor's in Percussion Performance from the University of Florida (2007), a Master's in Percussion Performance from the University of North Texas (2009) and his DMA from Florida State University (2019).
  6. St louis city resident here, the dome is, well the dome. It's not DCI's issue why they havent been back...its the dome...the logistics of that place is a hot mess.
  7. Wonder if they will be tending to Spirit exclusively, i thought i briefly saw their name mentioned when spirit published the quickly brought down their staff list
  8. not surprised at that cost, one of the reasons DCI will stay in Indy. That cost is not abnormal with non-municipal owned stadia, the rumoured cost of the use of LOS is a bargain compared to MBS as you have quoted. DCI is better off using big HS stadium, public College, and muni owned stadiums...like LOS, Like Dome at Americas Center, like Alamodome
  9. I maintain a charitable trust (that I started with $1000.00 in 1998 and has grow pretty nicely) to raise money for fDCI as well as donating to corps. It has grown to where I contact corps to anonymously donate to members of need in the name of the trust. (I also give to local STL charities as well).
  10. IMHO, rules were not enforced...prop rules, timing rules were laxly enforced
  11. there is already rules in place, they are defined in Policy 526 (page 132) here: http://publications.dci.org/books/mkpd/
  12. DCM All-Star Review was the DCM show every year.
  13. oh i do remember marching in the "Glass Bowl"
  14. Big markets have big stadiums that are owned and operated by big sports franchises that charge an arm, a leg, and a first born to use them. Using HS stadia, municipally owns stadia, and college stadia means you keep the cost down. You would need to see who owns each venue. Indy, STL (Dome at Americas Center), Chicago are among those that are owned by the city/county they reside and rental agreements are fairly reasonable. Big NFL stadia owned by the team can be an extremely high price to rent.
  15. Don't forget about the return of Spirit...probably looking at 12-16 area upon their return and who the recruit
  16. I seem to remember there was a BD guard member that was seriously injured due to a prop prior to the 2014 season. That prompted some of these rules. Hard to fathom (but not really) it took 5 years to put prop safety rules in place.
  17. http://publications.dci.org/books/mkpd/ Page 132 describes the rules for props
  18. When teams announce attendance, is"paid attendance" on Dan Potter's Facebook he said 23k+
  19. Many of those performers March in domes during their HS marching band season or at Nats in November at LOS. They handle it like a plum.
