  2. Long answer: I like blue or green with white bibbers but since we are now forced to believe that you can't win with white pants, I'd have to go with RED over black bibbers. Yes, there has been too much color changing!
  3. I think you will find that DCP is disproportionately skewed toward Coats and PR. I AM NOT SAYING there is ANYTHING WRONG with that, it is just an observation. On the other end of the spectrum, IMOO, are the Cavies and BD, their fans just don't come near this place... ...back to the topic, I think it is splitting hairs on whose guard or brass was better. People loved BOTH Coats and Crown because the programs were theatrical and entertaining. Note to judges: isn't that General Effect? 6th and 7th?
  4. Just a bunch of kids playing drums, not an organized drum corps.
  5. It happens every year that a corps uses mutes. I cringe when they try to put them back on/into/under whatever they use to hold them. And the times I have noticed one fall, I have missed the rest of the show watching and worrying that someone will step on it...
  6. I didn't want to start any rumors but I DID wonder why the Brass Caption Head of SCV registered for the Scouts forums a couple of weeks ago (even if he was an alum). Great news for the Scouts, I have sat through a couple of his SCV rehearsals and he is an amazing teacher.
  7. Wow, Jeff took a thread that was TOTALLY off-topic, addressed the "off-topic" topic and brought it back to the original (uhh) topic.
  8. Exciting news. Can some BD alums give us some insight into Ramiro Barrera’s participation in the corps during his years there? Was he a visible member of the staff or a behind the scenes planner? Or, something in between? There are lots of different types of Program Coordinators out there.
  9. VERY uninformed statement... Jeff Spanos is still the Executive Director. Corey Smith took a leave of absence from his full time job to be Tour Director just for this past summer.
  10. Interesting that 2007 is in the mix. I had mentioned to friends immediately after finals that more than half of the 4-22 corps could be voted in those DCP polls of the greatest of all-time at each placement. BUT, I got the feeling on here that most would not rank the top three high enough historically for this to be considered a top year (not slamming those corps, they have just put up to many unbelievable performances in their recent past). I’ll take 80, 88, 95, 99, 03 and 07.
  11. In my humble estimation, finalist: BD and Blo, semifinalist, Crossmen.
  12. correct 1994 no name 1995 A Drum Corps Fan's Dream: A Day in the Life of a Bull Fighter 1996 A Drum Corps Fan's Dream: Part Dos
  13. My bags are packed (no, I'm no breaking out in song; no mics in DCA). I'm just waiting for 5:00 and off I go to the airport. We can't wait to get there!
  14. Maybe DCI could subsidize something like three corps a year to start out West. Maybe randomly selecting one from the top 1-6, one from 7-12, and one from 13-17. It seems like the cost could be partly justified by the promotion of the activity to a large part of the country and partly justified as a gesture to the western corps that have that travel expense every year.
  15. That would be odd considering BK finished higher than Crown last year. This would make a little more sense.
  16. 1. Madison Scouts, San Antonio 2. Carolina Crown, San Antonio 3. Bluecoats, San Antonio 4. Blue Devils, San Antonio 5. Phantom Regiment, San Antonio
  17. Bringing up PR 03 brings to mind a question for the OP, is the question to learn what will make you popular or what will win? In 89 it might have been closer to the same thing, today is it NOT! SCV 89 (and PR 03) won fans with emotion which gets you little to nothing on a score sheet. I don't think most of the top corps today want to be as popular as SCV 89 unless the championship is included.
  18. Not that anything was resolved but this was discussed AT LENGTH here.
  19. ...and everyone else will be eating Popsicles and playing on the swings at a local park while Blu practices. ...rules require everyone else to go with their show as it is today.
  20. I will be there. It was a great time last year, double the fun this year!
