  1. Don't shoot me, but I always loved BD's "Tommy" show. The horns were just awesome all show long, particularly during that ending.

  3. Check out Facebook. Particularly those of the longest-term, leadership members of last year's brass line. I believe they had their highest number of age-outs since returning to WC. Somewhere around 43(???). There were a bunch in the left stands on the night of semis.
  4. The brass has been their most consistent caption since their return to WC in 2006. A major change in the touring brass staff like this is liable to cause a huge turnover in membership in their brass line. Between that, and the larger than normal number of age-outs last year, they could be in for a rebuilding year.
  5. It will be announced very soon. And the curiousity part will be the why????......
  6. Noticed many recent Blue Stars techs there. So, who's left in La Crosse besides the already announced returning percussion and guard creative staff?
  7. I have been at November and December tryout camps for DCI WC corps for the last ten years. The biggest reason I see for people not returning that play tuba/contra is the holding the horn part. So many people come in that can march weel and play great, but they simply cannot hold the horn up for more than a few seconds at a time. I've seen guys that are six foot tall with tears running down their face while trying to hold that horn. I've also seen 110 pound females that can hold it for five minutes at a time without breaking a sweat. Biggest advice: Find something that weighs around 40 pounds and is similar in shape to a tuba/contra. Hold it up in front of you like a marching tuba/contra. Start with at least one minute at a time and work up to five minutes at a time. Try snapping it up to your shoulder and back down again. Do this while watching TV.
  8. Lots and lots of former DCI members in Minnesota Brass, if I recall.
  9. Any word on Madison's staff for 2012 yet? Really interested to know if the brass staff (i.e., Van Doren, Green etc.) will be back next year. They've created such an awesome sound!
  10. Heard from an age-out that the entire Blue Stars staff committed at their banquet to return next year.
  11. FYI: This wasn't Shapiro's show. Others were the originators. Shapiro never did this show with a HS band.
  12. Disagree. Having 40 ageouts, with a big number being from their best section (percussion), plus the huge drop from their high expectations placement wise, I think they'll really struggle to stay in finals. Blue Knights seemed really young this year and excelled. If they can avoid the usual exodus to BD and SCV, I see them really flying next year.
  13. ^^THIS^^ Judges like "she who shall not be named" may completely destroy any previous notions of where corps will place.
  14. If you go by the "old standard" that OC corps scores drop by approx. 18 points when they move to WC sheets, you get the top 5 OC corps with the following scores: 1 Blue Devils B 77.000 2 Oregon Crusaders 76.700 3 Vanguard Cadets 76.200 4 Spartans 73.500 5 Revolution 71.250 Here are the lower end of the WC scores from their last performances: Pacific Crest 78.750 Mandarins 77.400 Teal Sound 76.600 Jersey Surf 74.700 Cascades 73.900 Pioneer 69.050 Thursday could be verrry interesting

  16. Actually, the really old days were prelims Thursday and Finals Friday night. That was how I remember it from 1972. Then they went to what's now WC prelims on Friday and Finals Saturday. I think the first use of the prelims/quarters/semis/finals format was Miami in 1983.
  17. When it comes to watching corps rehearse during finals week, I have no interest. There's too many great parties that week!!!
  18. I would love to see what the judges would do at Prelims if this corps did not bring out the scaffolding and just marched the show really clean without it. Would they just give them the same old "mailed-in" scores, or would we see a serious shift in their placement? I don't think their staff would have the ba!!s to do this, but it would be interesting to see what would happen.
  19. Better yet, look out for "rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ###-kickers, ####-kickers and Methodists." Sorry, just watching Blazing Saddles .
