  1. Rather than being ratted on, its probably more about being ratted out. Its obvious Renegades are not going to give a full accounting of what happened to warrant a suspension. What happened was more of an internal blunder by a board president who felt he was negotiating a settlement without the consent of the rest of the board. Thus, the deal was cut and damage control ensued. The Renegades will survive this, it may be a blessing in disguise for them. Be that as it may, directional changes are in order for them, if they want to continue competing in DCA.
  2. First time on the Fan Network, pushed it from my laptop to the big screen. It was slightly fuzzy upstairs and the sound didn't capture true surround. Infomercials, recaps and advertising is part of a web/TV broadcast, I have no problems exploiting drum corps with ads that promote its entertainment value to the public. All in all, great job!!! Congratulations DCA for making this possible.
  3. Munson....you gotta update that Avatar brother...you ain't no rookie...lol
  4. One of those drummers was Al Chan. Al is a legend in No.Cal drum corps. If I recall my history correctly, he was in a drum corps called Cathey in the early 60's. He was a drum judge in the old Pacific Coast Judging Association during the 70's, also played snare in "Vintage Sound" Senior Corps 84-86. Him and Munson (who also played Mello in Vintage Sound 84-86) were manning a Renegade sign-up booth at Buchser High School in Santa Clara, at what use to be called "Evaluation Show Day" back in 1997-98? probably June 97. They were wearing shirts that have that Indian emblem/logo used on their website...
  5. If fans out here could see a real Senior Corps show, it would change a lot of misconceptions about "the old dudes" trying to march again. People out here just don't know, we need a few DCA corps to come to our show and demonstrate where it all came from.
  6. Actually, its a DCI participant show, we (SOME) sign a contract with DCI, pay a performance fee to each unit, plus the cost of housing, stadium costs, security and overruns. When the proposal was made to move the placement of Renegades before intermission, DCI's response was negetive and felt it was in control of the show, thus demonstrates a disrepectful position toward our preference in the lineup. In other words, pushed their agenda with power politics and weakend the ability to provide OUR audience with a variety of Drum Corps. The issue is this, does DCI WANT Seniors as part of their experience, or is this another maneuver to make more money at DCA's expense? I am a DCA fan, live on the west coast, want seniors out here, promote its contribution to the overall drum corps experience, whenever I get anyone's attention. If this "new" agreement is to work, DCI must be willing to share, so far its been a one-way street and I believe DCA should move with caution.
  7. DCI has a problem with Seniors in shows out here in Calif. Seems like Renegades are just "tolerated" and forced to go on 1st at every show. Renegades have been DCA finalist for 10 years, yet DCI fails to give them an appropriate time slot. Adults with JOBS and FAMILIES, who still love to march, are treated disrepectfully by DCI. Do you think this "new" partnership will change this attitude? The next 2 nights at Stanford and UOP, audiences will be treated to the Blue Devils "C" corps, following the Renegades....would you make an effort to get there early to see BDC?....
  8. "That Old Black Magic"......early 60's, I think, I have a recording of Skys at Carnige Hall, I believe with Pepe' doin the meanist lip shake in the history of drumcorps.....talk about your French Horns!!!
  9. Well said Tom, making changes is difficult and making everyone happy, even more.
  10. Always nice to have a professional in his field contributing to the drum corps experience, especially someone with marching and performance skills. Thank you Mike Symonds! Also, the effort to go back after the night is over, write up re-caps, input scores and edit those update handouts meant burning the midnight oil, I am sure. Thanks again Joey!!!
  11. I'd just like to kick in my 2 cents about some positive changes in the Championship weekend. The JumboTron playbacks and highlights of the weekend on finals night were OUTSTANDING!!...Those short wrapups and motivational moments from directors to corps were great, especially during retreat when each corps shouted and cheered their approvals. Also, a BIG thanks to Joey Cavallaro for those terrific weekend updates of show placements and schedules, I would have been lost without them. Congrats to all those involved in makeing 2010 DCA a great weekend of Drum Corps!!!
  12. Its difficult to swallow, when I saw YR in 1970 Portland Prelims, it was like my mind was being dipped in Drum Corps holy water. They were lightyears ahead of anything we had out west, it still remains burned in my memory to this day. Only a few weeks ago, we had to shut our doors to Bingo, the end was painful, the economy couldn't support us any longer. It seems like independent drum corps in America are struggling to survive, these are certainly hard times, but loosing another legendary unit like YR hurts us all.....God Bless the Yankee Rebels.
  13. So maybe its time to bring back the "Tic" system.......
  14. (I'd rather see Bayonne than Cabs Alumni, not that Cabs Alumni isn't spectacular, its just that Bayonne would personify what a Junior corp would look like if it decided to be an All-Age....) But this whole subject is ridiculous, to what benefit does DCA gain in the end?....DCI is kids stuff, they think like kids, act like kids and can't hold their liquor anyway..... PLUS it sounds almost as STUPID as having the Super Bowl in New Jersey in FEB....lol.....
  15. Good Luck to MCL.....what a great show last year, lots of talented musicians and performers. Show ideas were new and innovative, will be sorely missed.......do me one favor though.......keep that Mac Park perfomance you did at mini comp......WOW....what a gas.... Thanks again MCL!!!
