  1. Hornline put in a lot of work this weekend and sounds great for March! Not hyping but things are good in all sections. Guard really is getting good member numbers and have exciting plans to help with their movement technique. They should start off better than last year. Percussion just won, and are full.

Horns are full from what I've been told. Specific shout outs to tubas! They are tight.

    Hornline is moving well.

No show announcements. No hype. Just positive vibes.

    They ate well too.

  2. I think the visual additions will help them. It is a crap shoot and most of this stuff depends on the design. I liked them musically last year and their guard was soooo young and inexperienced, but at the end of the season scored well.

I think good things are in store, but we won't know much until a few camps have been under their and other corps' belts. Lots of corps in their scoring range had better seasons last year other than percussion, and then there's SCV.

My hope is that 5-9th will be competitive and keep it exciting for all the corps.

  3. Fishers high school was incredible and underrated at last place in finals. Saw them live about 4 times this year. Too bad Vandergrift and Tarpon Springs didn't come, but Avon, Carmel, Hebron, Mason, Woodlands, and all the bands were just incredible.  The brass playing is sublime, and the woodwinds play a lot of intricate music very well. This is as close to a national champion marching band contest as can be.

The huge trend this year was outstanding soloists and small ensemble work. Blue Springs had a fantastic soloist. Hebron had incredible herald trumpets and brass in general. Mason had incredible woodwind soloists. Fishers was no slouch either with that bass trombone feature and Christmas show. Just tasty music.

4 of these finalists were from the Indianapolis suburbs, which blows my mind.

Drum corps is thriving? Getting harder to find housing, three top corps (counting SoA) have taken season off due to issues and expenses keep going up just like everywhere else. I’m glad for what we have and surprised the activity still exists as well as it stand today, but have to be realistic

Also, DCA's not thriving either, as they've turned to DCI.

OTOH, marching band in the Midwest looks like it's going gang busters if my attendance to BOA and ISSMA, OMEA, KMEA, and Mid-States' circuits is anything to go by...

Unrelated, but did you know the corps office isn’t in Fort Mill anymore? I’m not sure when they moved but their new address is just over the state line in Pineville, NC. I noticed it on their Facebook page a few weeks ago. Then I looked the address up on Google Earth and it’s definitely legit. I’m sure they’ll still be announced at contests as “from Fort Mill, SC” but they’ve gone back to the Tar Heel state. That makes this native South Carolinian a little sad. 😢

Make sure they file their charity designation right for NC or there will be hell to pay from a few posters on here.

well, as someone else here since the beginning......are we really ok? LOL

    That's a fair point!

...and I remember you from RAMD too.

I'm not addressing this to anyone specifically, but I'm all for fixing things, and especially protecting the members, but I just feel like posting these issues here and trying to shame organizations into some action, and then continually posting here just to stir the pot after the first volley of information just won't get anything done with an administrative issue at the Cadets. People should reach out to them directly if they care that much about the Cadets. I don't think that's what's happening.

I know how government bureaucracy works, and just because a website says something or because you get a person from the state doesn't always mean that the information is up to date.  The big danger that I'm afraid of happening is that we're going to parallel the story of the boy who cried wolf.

Make an issue out of something that's hurting someone or putting someone in danger, don't try to make something out of what is likely a big nothing burger.

Have you disregarded earlier dialogue in this thread wherein legitimate channels of communication with the orgs themselves are blocked... by the orgs themselves? Several people here have affirmed this.

I have an open channel with one corps CEO who cold contacted me to lament about the abuse I endured and explained in detail what they're doing to make things better. I can reach out to them with questions anytime and get thoughtful, prompt responses. Not with my own corps though. Not with the half dozen others I've reached out to. Cold shoulders and bland, HR'd responses there mostly.

So again, when those channels are a described, by myself and others who try to reach out in good faith, praytell where else should people be going?

No, I just haven't read all the drama over a filing status that just hasn't propagated through the system yet in PA.

I appreciate the comments you make and the good you do, but tattling about something like for the Cadets seems like a reach and a witch hunt. I'm not even a Cadets homer and I see right through it.

First off, I'm not "complaining" and you can leave your little attitude at the door. I am simply saying if people really want to solve an issue, DCP is not the place to do it.

Second, I'm pointing out an issue that is ridiculous in my view. As I've said in my original post, I think it's right to point out when drum corps have done things that need to be addressed, but DCP does not seem to be the right place to handle issues.

Third, The POINT of my initial post was to ask why people choose to bring issues on DCP, which usually leads to nothing being done except threads being led down rabbit holes with no solutions, and ultimately that thread getting closed. If people TRULY want to get something fixed within that specific organization, then they should approach that organization instead of adding to the destruction of that organization.

But if you're all for posting that type of crap, then by all means, do you. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that's the right way to do it.

I think it comes off as destructive and looks like a bunch of busybodies trying to stir crap. It's really disgusting because it's obvious that it's not done out of concern but just to stir the pot. Basically, let's kick them while they're down.... Burn the whole thing down... That's why I have an issue with it.

BD Honk here. Check this out..........

    2008 Phantom started out west.

    2011 Cadets started out west.

    2013 Crown started out west.

2016 Bluecoats did NOT start out west.

2018 SCV started out west. But they normally do anyways.

So four of the last five to beat BD started their tour in California. Coincidence??

Just wishful thinking on your part. I want you to see other corps out there too!

Other than wildfires, mudslides and earthquakes.

Canada has wildfires. The Northeast has wildfires, floods, and snow out the wazoo. Also threats of tsunamis really. Did I mention that the weather suuuuucks in the NE?

Every coast has mudslides. Don't build near the coast and you're fine.

Even Missouri has earthquakes from time to time. Really not any bigger deal than hurricanes and tornados, and I've lived in 12 states, so I happen to have perspective. Plus, California has building codes for earthquakes, but to be fair the codes aren't the best for cold hardyness.

Really not a reason not to live there.

It's fact, not bashing. More people have left California in the last 12 months than any other state, 343,230.

Taxes and crime will do that.

I left because my home had appreciated enough that I could pay off other debts, so I sold it and did that.

California is great. Crime is comparable to anywhere else. Taxes are high, but benefits and weather are huge draws.

    It's a great state.

    not always feasible.

and again the post you quoted was referring to the regional model. quick....how far is the closest corps to Troop? Seattle? Spirit? Crossmen? Should Crossmen wait til Texas or OK shows to be regional? Seattle..well.....uh....? Troop? Wyoming host shows anymore? Hell for Surf, outside of maybe an Open Class show or two early, there's no WC shows in NJ til close to Allentown.

    No idea.

Well. not no one, but far less than leaving.

I left California, but people are moving there unlike what someone says, and I'd move back for the right job that pays a high dollar amount. I'm just extremely tired of all the nut jobs trying to pick on California due to obvious political reasons...

Costs are high everywhere; fuel is even more of an issue there, but the whole tour isn't there...

As far as the Cadets taking a year off, I have no idea how this relates to that topic.
