Mandarins got their deserved placement in 2023, but it was close. Mandarins need to improve on brass performance and percussion performance for the future, but their GE is rock solid, and their guard is very creative. They don't need help from any other corps' misfortunes. They're a legit and quality org! I can't wait to see what else they've got coming!

Interesting justification for using one offensive word/phrase while trying to defend another potentially offensive word/phrase. They are my "Cavalier brother" and I love them and I respect them. That pronoun is the most confusing thing on the planet. I say we pick pronouns that aren't already taken? It would lessen some confusion. ...and believe me, I have to combat antigay and anti-trans comments all the time and to the point that I block people on social media.

Also, calling people "you people" has been a pet peeve of mine for decades. Yeah, they changed that, and the poster changed it, and was an innocent thing.

I'm equally tired of the Uber intellectual crowd who militantly try to make things sound more important and grander than they are. Balance... My brain has earned me a couple of STEM degrees, but I don't try to belittle people who don't have that background. All these corps put immense thought into their shows. The difference between them is visual technique and getting judge buy-in, not artistic genius. Just my opinion...

A CANVAS? What a beautiful way of presenting this, but they're ALL on the SAME FOOTBALL FIELD. One man or woman's canvas is EXACTLY the same as another's drill sheet. Calling a burlap bag a silk dress does not create "haute couture", it just comes off as pretentious. The one thing that the Blue Devils do better than the other corps is their unique visual technique. Thanks Todd Ryan! It feeds the visual scores. It augments the GE scores. Everything else is comparable to the other corps.

Totally agree, and 91 has some KILLER visual technique. I think THAT year is when BD started their visual dominance in technique and T. Ryan's contribution to that is why. ...and '92 was right there. When a Man Loves a Woman was the talk of the season!

It seems like when the Mandarins figure out how to win, they REALLY figure out how to win, so it's only a matter of time before they're knocking the Blue Devils down a peg or two. Seriously, check out the Mandarins' growth spurts over the years! They just keep improving year over year! (Sorry, didn't realize this was a Cadets 2024 thread)
