  1. I was privileged to march with Lucy in both '81 and '82 BD, albeit we were in different sections!
  2. Wow! It's great to hear that Mr. "SEVEN" is back!
  3. AND, check out the demand on marching in 7/8 during that solo and how close they came to the front side line, so perfect!
  4. Wow! Where did you get that pic of the the South Bay Barons? They were actually a drum and bell corps when I competed with them. I was in the San Jose Rebel Kadets drum and bell corps. Drum and Bell corps were very popular in Northern CA and were excellent "feeder" corps for the "big guys."
  5. I'm really enjoying reading this thread and learning about the different styles. Being "raised" on the SCV/BD, (minus matched-grip), playing or attacking high was not something I ever had to do. However, after marching in a Float line, the two height "style" increased my chops by leaps and bounds. Higher attacks, lower taps and fast. It's very cool to have both Tom Float's and Ken Mazur's book's of exercises!
  6. Greg: 1980; Scott: 1983. Me: In this line, but at far left and was cut off. Great shot!!!!! Thx for sharing!
  7. Nice to see some pics from this year! Thx for sharing!
  8. I really like the black and white photo's and the Carlsberg beer sign in the background...I got so buzzed on that in Montreal!!
  9. I marched in the drum line with Glen for two years and never saw the "serious" side to him, (albeit, I wasn't in his section.) I'm so impressed by his teaching qualities and envy not ever having him as an instructor...(he aged-out after me!) He's a sincere person and big-time family man and I hold him in high respect.
  10. So many years, so little space, so I'll narrow it WAY down! Being that I played BD's drum solo, "Paradox" in '82, I loved the added "features" in the '83 version, esp. the visuals and left hand addition to the excel. In addition, I absolutely loved the '84 BD show!
  11. Being in a "Float line" was the all-time drumming experience! His sense of humor and personality added so much to not only my "chops", but to the success and ultimate fun of being in the Blue Devils!
  12. Wow! As a marching member of the drumline in both '81 and '82, it was such a joy to end my drum corps career, (with the exception of marching with the Renegades Sr. corps), on such a great note! Reading your experiences about the '82 year has touched my heart and it's great to hear that so many enjoyed the show!
  13. I MUST add '83 BD of which I missed marching in by a month!!!!!!
  14. '76 Blue Devils, of course, and either '80 BD or SCV!
  15. I miss all night drum marathons at Mars, (BD), and waking up the next morning on the field after the sun came up!
