  2. i'm looking forward to giving you all the report from our 2nd camp which starts in less than 2 hours. we'll have a write-up and pics early next week.
  3. This year the Bushwackers find it only fitting to honor our first 25 years by presenting a totally new show showcasing the 3 musical stages of the corps during these past 25 years, Jazz, Broadway, and Symphonic. "Fanfare for the New" by Hugo Montenegro, Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Perfect Year" from the musical Sunset Boulevard, And Ron Nelsons "Rocky Point Holiday" will help the corps celebrate its 25th season and is sure to entertain fans wherever the corps performs. The Bushwackers next rehearsal camp is Dec 10th and 11th in Garfield NJ. 4. here's the wrap up of Bush's very successful open house camp http://www.bushwackers.org/media/openhouse06/
  5. I don't buy the startup costs. Domain names are less that $10/year. When the site started, there is no way his hosting was the $450/month he claims it is now. As his bandwidth costs rose, so should his ad revenue and donations. (please note, i'm not against him selling, and i really don't think the privacy concerns are something to worry about. i just don't buy the math here. if it's such a money loser, why would anyone want to buy it?)
  6. I didn't read every single post in this thread so sorry if this was already brought up. But, this is from the ebay description: "Current google and ad based revenue for the site averages $800-1000 monthly. Current hosting costs average approximately $450 monthly. Real advertising potential is untapped and therefore unknown... " So, can someone explain to me how you've lost money? And while we're at it, why you need donations?
  7. One of the first things I've agreed with in this thread!
  8. I have the DCA forum in my favorites. I never, ever, come to that forum through the main DCP page, the news page or any other method for that matter. Also, I don't know about anyone else, but the topics that get pinned have become like banner ads. I just ignore them. If someone had not posted a link in the DCA forum, I never would have seen this thread. (Not that I really care that much, I'm just sayin')
  9. Here's the problem. The judges shouldn't be looking at what kind of horns you're playing. They should be listening to the sound you create. If I remember the DCA sheets, and I could be wrong here, when it comes to demand and exposure, it's not factored in until you get 2 corps that are on an equal level. Now apply that to a Bb vs G line. If you have 2 hornlines that are equally good then the G line should get a higher score? That just doesn't seem right to me. Likewise they Bb line should not be given any extra credit either. If they both sound equally great, it should be a tie. Listen, I'm just a drummer and I can't even tell the difference. Granted, I haven't sat down and critically listened back to back to a G line then a Bb line either, I tend to focus on drumlines. The bottom line as I see it is pretty simple. The judges shouldn't be looking at what kind of horns you're playing. They should be listening to the sound you create.
  10. I'm not familiar with that expression but it sure makes me giggle. :P
  11. this is from the history portion of the Bushwackers website: "1983 When you are a new corps and not a threat, other corps pat you on the head and suddenly they are your best friends. But once you improve and beat them, then you are no longer the cute little corps they have come to know and beat with the unusual name. The Bushwackers learned this lesson early on in 1983. " sounds kind of familiar... i rarley get on dcp anymore because everyone is too uptight and every little thing gets blown out of proportion. not to mention if you're not totally PC and actually have an opinion about something you'll get chastized for stating it. i've found the best thing to do is spend less time on the boards and more time practicing. good luck to the renegades and everyone else in '06.
  12. I wish. As much as I tried to convince them, they still won't believe me that the pac man show is a sure-fire winner. Someday. Someday... :P :P :P
  13. I'm not really trying to take one side or the other here but I don't think you are all getting what this guy is saying. You can have the best show concept in the world but if it's not performed well, it's not going to win. I really think that's all he's getting at. That's basically what you're saying in this post. That theme without the "clean and good" wouldn't have won it. I'm sure you guys will have it all this year though. I love this time of year. Excitment is high all around and everybody's just a little bit on edge. Here's to a succeesful open house all the DCA corps. Only 27 days left until ours!
  14. we were warming up for the reading show this year and amongst the crowd was a guy with a wagon with 3 or 4 kids in it ages 4 and under I'd guess. so of course he manages to knock the wagon over and then there are 4 screaming kids because they all conked their heads on the sidewalk. so the joke was forget about throwing babies, they're bringing them by the wagon load for us!
  15. He was pretty #### good with our pit this year too. I'm just sayin'

  18. We did a FF8 show for the HS I teach last year including Liberi Fatali. That music translates very well to the field. And the kids loved playing the stuff too.
