  1. And 82. Based on the Singers Unlimited arrangement, also used verbatim by Miller's Blackhawks in their 1983 floor show. Belleville Black Knights did an all-Beatles show in 1982, with bug flags.
  2. "We think the new direction dovetails nicely with our mission, and the staff additions we've made will serve to proactively and positively boost our program come summer."
  3. Was that some sort of initiation ritual for new Scouts? Cause it's GROSS.
  4. Condolences. he was excellent on the 84 broadcast. Even more important than 82, IMO, was 1981. That year Garfield finished third in horns, first in field horns, and first in percussion exposure to error. That was the year that made 82 possible. They pick up from the successful 1980 season, end up with a great hornlinre the next year, Get Z for 82, and then the dominos tumble.
  5. I've thought about this for a while. Karen.
  6. Send in the Clowns worked for SCV pretty well. And Sunday in the Park With George worked well for the Colts. 27 and the Crossmen, not so much, unfortunately. And maybe he never rhymed orange, but he did find a rhyme for "personable" and pulled off the greatest two quatrains in history (in "Night Music") AND wrote the single greatest song lyric ever ("Rose's Turn.") All of which means a lot to drum corps. Not.
  7. Probably neither, because he's (admittedly) a testy, grumpy 80-year-old who doesn't suffer fools gladly and doesn't like to leave New York very often. My guess is he wouldn't care to watch them on DVD either.
  8. Subject to change at any time given emergency or whim. 1. Phantom 1978 2. Garfield 1985 3. Knights 1985 4. Madison 1981 5. Phantom 1996 6. Kilts 1978 (first show I ever saw) 7. Blue Devils 1984 8. 27 1981 9. SCV 1980 10. Phantom 1991
  9. I miss many things. But then I file down my rifle sights, and my aim improves.
  10. With 'Bathtime at Clerkenwell' as the background music. Awesome.
  11. Agree to disagree. "Hello, Dolly!" is hardly unmemorable, in my opinion. Or "I Am What I Am." Or "If He Walked Into Myy Life."
  12. I prefer Sondheim to Herman as well, but you're making Herman sound like a hack. He's a superb tunesmith. But I don't know if Sondheim is on another plane. I'm pretty sure I get what you're saying, but their shows don't try to do the same things. Don't fault Herman because Sondheim aims so high. La Cage aux Folles kicks major azz. As does Dolly, The Grand Tour, and Milk and Honey.
  13. A, B, C. A-always, B-be, C-closing. Always be closing. ALWAYS BE CLOSING.
  14. It's actually "Work is what you do for others, liebchen,..." (because the singer is German), but yes. It's a great point. No pun intended, and that score is full of them.
  15. Their Finals show that night was especially moving. Oh. Wait...
  16. I'm so glad we're revisiting this topic! Especially becZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZ
  17. Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.
  18. No upper deck, no judge's box, too many tigers, WAY too many cats, in worse shape than Legion Field.
  19. Good...but I'd disagree based on how they placed and the fact that 85 was the first year in Madison. But even assuming you're correct it doesn't exactly disprove my point. Madison. Camp Randall. Jump Around. Jump Around. Jump up, jump up and get down. EOS.
  20. Not really. Well, yes. 1)Madison Scouts 85 but actually any of the other years (actually, just about any year period) 2)Blue Knights 3)Magic of Orlando 4)503 Hornets 5)Star of Pasadena (May not actually be a real corps) 6)Spirit of Buffalo (Absolutely not a real corps) I would put 27th Alumni corps in there, but, you know, not a competitive corps. Please, please tell me that any corps has been as popular in their hometown as Madison was in 1985. Short answer, one of many, many really good reasons to have finals in Madison every year until we all die and the rocks melt with the sun.
  21. I like Husky Stadium too, but it is old, and needs some work, and does have a track between the field and the stands. I like it mainly because of the enormous upper tank. But, seriously...Madison. Best college town, most popular hometown corps, close to Milwaukee and Chicago, weather is fine, Camp Randall is in better shape than it's ever been, CENTRALLY LOCATED, just like Indy, and for good measure, it's not in Indiana. Anyone else remember those radio promos Magic 96 (98?) did for the Top 12? They were like promos for an upcoming Bon Jovi show. Awesome. The level of civic involvement was breathtaing. Did DCI get that anywhere else, except maybe Orlando? Madison. EOS.
