2005 Phantom I luuuuv the music. Camera angle #2 on the DVD. I really don't like the marching visual. -
1. Cadets- Great staff. The corps is ahead of schedule. Pushing the envelope. Not resting on last years success. 2. Blue Devils- 2005 was a fluke. You won't catch The Blue Devils out of the top 3 this year. 3. Cavaliers- I can't see The Cavaliers having a bad show. Cavaliers always seem to put themselves in the running. 4. Bluecoats- I think Bluuu has found the formular to be one of the elite. 5. Phantom- I think Phantom will be as good as last year. 6. Madison- I think Madison will be better than 2005. 7. Vanguard- I hope they have a better start than last year. 8. Crown- 9. Boston- 10. Glassmen- 11. Crossmen- 12. Blue Knights-

I have to agree with you, I first joked and made fun of The Blue Devils show. By time I saw them at the Medowlands, they had grown on me. I enjoyed all three shows at Foxboro. Now they are one of my favorites of 05. I enjoy watching the Devils show on DVD very much. All I have to say is, Some get it, Some don't. I do remember sitting in the stands listening to the boos and negitive comments about Star. I remember sitting in resturants after each show debating Stars show. As we have with The Cadets and Devils last year. What's important is, how it made you feel.

Question about 2005 Cavaliers
boxingfred replied to ekleve's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I watched the Cavaliers from the front fence up close in Pittsburgh. If they were playing both horns it did not sound like it. But, It was a cool visual. And another thing on the DVD's. The Cavaliers show cordinator said " you never hear the Cavaliers play jazz. I remember in 1976, The Cavaliers played, Give it one. A Maynard Ferguson tune. Not a big deal but, an oversite. -

"Pitching a Drum & Bugle Sequel in D.C."
boxingfred replied to bawker's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Wow! Thanks for showing that. I started in a drum corps from Washington DC ( The Columbians). We were sponsered by the DC Department of Recreation. That was our summer job that year. Marching in a Drum and Bugle corps. Yes, We got paid to march in Drum Corps. We competed against the Buxmont Raiders, Chancellors, Crossmen etc... One of the drawbacks was DCD of R mandated we march X amount of parades. Sometimes they fell on days when the important shows were held. We had to march the parades because we were ambassadors of the city. Oh we also did a special performance with the Blue Stars in 76 on the National Mall. -

Drum Corps shows nowadays usally flow in the direction they want you to watch. But, being a drill writer I watch a bit of everything. -

If it was said once it needs to be said again

Best Ever? It's sort of like asking would Mahamad Ali have beaten Rocky Marciano or would Marvelous Marvin Hagler have beaten Bernard Hopkins in their prime. It's so hard to compare shows. So instead of judging the whole maybe we should look at the individual parts. How big would the point spread be between horns, drums and guard etc...? We'll never know. Would a show performed in 2002 score the same in 2005 ? And vise versa How much does past innovation effect the future? Would an unamplified Cavaliers corps score as high in 2005? They were both very very good shows. My Best Shows Ever: 87- Cadets 93- Star 03- Cavies & 05-Cadets 88- Devils -
Chuck Levitz music store in Weaton, Maryland. I 'll find the info on it.

Go to Tower Records( or equal) Go to Pop/ Rock section. Find Bjork. Look for black CD with Bjorks face on the cover with glasses. Fisrt and last trax.

Ranking The New World Bjork - From the movie "Dancer in the Dark" as the prision guard puts the noose around her neck. Cadets- From the 05 show. Very intense, very emotional, but if you saw the movie you would put the Cadets 2nd too. Bjork- Album version track #1 without vocals. Bjork- Album version last track with vocals. Bluecoats- From 02 show. Nice arrangement but servred a different purpose than CADETS version. Washington Symphonic Brass- I love the sound of brass. It's hard to get past WSB's drums after hearing The Cadets penatrate your soul with their percussion. Trombone solo, just odd. ( I'm a trombone player)

Based on absolutley nothing. It's September! Some kids still haven't unpacked from tour! Cadets- Stay unique and perfect it. Devils- Come back hard. Cavaliers- Too much content for Phantom but their show looks like highlights from 2000-2005. Phantom-Find a winning formular in 2005 are even better in 2006, crowd is shocked they don't place higher. Bluecoats- Much better in 2006. Battles with top 4 corps all summer, even beating the top corps a couple times in early and mid season. Finally gets slotted as a tie for third. Crown- As strong as 2005. Once again a crowd favorite. Vanguard- Still adjusting to staff changes, SCV stays in the battle for top 5 all year. Madison- Fights tooth and nail with Crown and Vanguard for 5th place. Boston- Crown, SCV, Scouts jockey for position all summer. Crossmen- Come back in a big way! Bottom 5 flip flop position until semifinals. Blueknights- Battle with Crossmen and Glassmen. Glassmen-Make top 12 by nipping Spirit , Colts and Capital Regiment.

Garfield 87. -
The Cadet uniforms of the 80's were way too hot. The pants and jackets were made of wool and they were lined. The new (2004) uniforms are lighter and much more summer friendly. The gautlets , I could do without.personal attack removed

1987-Cadets. My Favorite piece of music performed excellently. Appalachian Spring 1988- Devils. from start to finish an enjoyable fun show. ( grey devils) 1993- Starr of Indiana. Inovation! 2003- Cavaliers. Amazing visual show. great corps. 2005- Cadets. Great show, brass, percussion, guard 1980-Vanguard. They attempted to be different. too bad they had such a slow start. 1977- Crossmen. They were kicking 27th's butz at the start of the year. exciting corps. Grey uniforms, red an white cross sashes. 1977- Etobicoke Oakland Crusaders- snare line spinning rifles. Blowing the bell off the bugles. 1980- 27th Lancers one judge away from a championship. Great corps! 1976- Etobicoke Oakland Crusaders- Drum Major Joell Allen displayed a level of leadership and showmanship you don't see in drum corps any more. Exciting drum corps to watch and hear. 1976- Seneca Optimist. Great music. I love listening to Wayne Dillion play his soprano solos.
