  1. You and your friend ... both good baritone players, decent marching skills, showed a lot of class on the field ... Thanks for some really nice performances. I enjoyed them very much. Best of luck to both of you teaching at your new corps.
  2. Happy to have been of service to you, Mr. TSRTS13. You've given me a few chuckles, too. Yeah, well, I fixed the typo. Details, details ... Fortunately, I have also always been able to laugh at myself. That has saved me a few times, too. Have a good life, DCP-ers! Carry on.
  3. "Et tu, Brute?" Hmm ... "What goes around comes around" ... ? May those who quote this as truth think about the fact it then must also apply to themselves ... I'm sorry ... I don't know you, but I know where I can find the name that goes with these initials ... I've been known to pay pretty close attention to details in my life ... it has actually saved my life a few times ... I really wish you and everyone else here only the best. I cannot tell all of you how sad all of this makes me. The more I read, the more I think ... change can be a good thing. I will be signing off DCP now. Not sure if, or when, I will be back. I want to leave you with the most important lesson my old instructor ever taught me ... it has been a life-long lesson ... and I am still learning it ... "Corpsmanship begins and ends with what you think about yourself and others."
  4. Welcome, Mr Lance P, to DCP. It is good to see an official presence from my favorite junior corps from NH on these boards. Welcome, also, Ms. guardmomx2. I am truly sorry to see that there are people from this corps who are hurting. I can only tell you what I am "in it for" ... so I will ... I am a drum corps fan. I am a nameless face in the crowd. I am "in it" to enjoy a good drum corps show. I am "in it" to support the people who march ... whoever they are, wherever they march, whenever they march, whyever they march ... I am "in it" to support the people who help them accomplish that goal ... whoever they are, wherever they are, whenever they are, whyever they are. I don't really need to know their names. I already know who they are. They are me ... just in a different time and place, in a different uniform. They will come out and put on their show ... and that will tell their story. All I ever really need to know will play out there on the field. I am "in it" for the long haul. I plan to be there next summer to cheer on the Spartans ... and every other corps ... may they have a great run. I am just a member of the old guard.
  5. Not off topic at all ... precisely "on" if you ask me. This is a great story ... and a great lady. Thanks for posting
  6. Thanks for posting these files, particularly the middle one, which I had not found, yet "Sounds Spartanesque ... and new." ... I like it!
  7. After listening to some of his music, I have to agree on all counts. I am a brass guy so wind is what I always hear first. Here I can pick out the voices. All brass sections should have some very juicy parts. Mellos ... wow. (Think they would let me play a mello? I could dye my hair... what's left of it.) Playing it again a couple of times, I can see that the front and percussion are going to have some great work, too. Some interesting special effects in the pit. Marimbas ... again, wow. (No chance they would let me at one of these.) The arrangers certainly have some wonderful stuff for adapting to drum corps. Looking forward to seeing this on the field! Good luck, Spartans!
  8. Aw, shucks. I copied this list from DCI's info, which I know can change. Not sure if I will catch you in Brockton as "Saturday Night Lights" (also from DCI's schedule) is actually on a Sunday, which is not a good night for me. All will depend on the time of the show. I do plan to be in Nashua and Manchester, though, so I will see you then.
  9. Always a good idea to bring your own, I say. Unless, of course, you have already dropped it. God Bless the child who has his/her own handbasket.
  10. Ouch ... too quick on the submit post button here. Moderators, if you can, please correct my typo in the topic heading. Thanks!
  11. From http://www.spartansdbc.org/ "Spartans' 2008 show is…"METALLIC SOUNDSCAPES" Musical metallurgy are two words that most aptly describe the Spartans' 2008 production: 'Metallic Soundscapes.' Through sight and sound, we will explore the various ways in which metals can be manipulated. From the clanging of iron and light ringing of bells, to the bending of sheet metal and resonant sounds of blaring brass, this year's production will be a new and exciting direction in both concept and sound for the Spartans! Our production will be based exclusively on the music of John Mackey. We will open with the light and bright sounds of Kingfishers Catch Fire II, moving on to the eerie sounds of Turning, and closing with the powerful sounds of Turbine. Don't miss this exciting 2008 Spartans Presentation!" I am not very familiar with this composer, except for "Redline Tango" which both Blue Devils and Cascades played in '05, so I looked up John Mackey's myspace page. Some impressive credentials here. Hmmm ... wind ensemble music. After listening to two of these pieces, I am excited. This is great stuff. Looks to be a new step up musically for Spartans. I would just love to hear this played by a big, beautiful brassline. Drill could be some great stuff, too. I am really looking forward to seeing Spartans re-invent themselves this summer ... and I am making my plans to be there in New London for the June 28th show. The line-up is looking very interesting: 7th Regiment - New London, CT Citations - Burlington, MA Jersey Surf - Camden County, NJ The Muchachos - Manchester, NH Raiders - Wayne, NJ Spartans - Nashua, NH Targets - Springfield, MA Best Wishes to Spartans and to all the corps who will be there!
  12. I second that emotion. Best of luck to everyone at Velvet Knights for a great season in '08!
  13. This is great news! From my seat in the stands, I have much admired the work of the many new and returning staff members who are coming together this year at Citations. It looks to be an exciting year for this drum corps ... and for this drum corps fan. I am really looking forward to seeing what they bring to the field this summer. Best Wishes to everyone at Citations for a great run starting in 2008!
  14. I have just posted an illegal video clip of Brand X's show last year ... sorry, I can't tell you where it is but I don't want to break any of the rules here ... so I'll just give you the review as best I can ... it's the part where the battery plays with the metal spoons on the paint cans ... the use of the graduated sizes and partially emptied cans is pure brilliance on their part of the percussion staff ... then it goes into the big backward company front ... wow, I haven't seen this done so well since the old 3,453rd Saint's GuardBlasters ... no one does this as well at Brand X ... they have the best marching technique that I have ever seen ... especially the way they back up on their heels ... just amazing! ... then the big jazz run at 640 while they are playing the "Flight of the Bumblebee" in the closer if only they had not had that one small pile-up last year in finals ... you know they should have won it all ... but that early season slotting that put them in -35th position is just so unfair ...
  15. Well ... I have it from a very unreliable, unsubstantiated source that I would never trust in a million years that this will not be a problem ... they are only playing on their old G Bugles while they are waiting for their new line of C Flutes to arrive ... man, when this happens it will just be music this old drum corps fan's ears ... and the new headphones that they are going to handing out to the audience so that they may better enjoy the sweet sounds of the new violins and cellos in the pit ... great news! I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to seeing Brand X on the field next summer ... Best of Luck to my favorite corps from Anytown, USA!
  16. I have read through it and posted twice in it before it turned into a mud-slinging fest. Personally, I am not convinced that the sky is falling over Nashua ... unless perhaps it is in the form of snow ... which when it melts in the spring may find Spartans standing as tall and firm as ever in the practice lot. I have followed this corps closely the past few years and have greatly enjoyed their shows. I will greatly miss the old design team, but I have read many times on DCP that there are others who have felt the shows were "the same thing every year." The Spartans have just won a championship. They are buying new Bb horns for this year. They have had the same Corps Director for the last twenty years, who during that time brought them back from drum corps oblivion. Their new Brass Arranger and Caption Head has been running a very successfull band program in southeastern Massachusetts and he has drum corps in his past. The new Percussion Caption Head from Texas came on board last year and the writing was a step up. The new design team, also from Texas, has some impressive work on their website. They appear to be young, qualified and enthusiastic. There are, also, many Spartans from the recent past working as techs. All of this may just be part of a plan to bring the corps to World Class status in the future. Time will tell. As I have been saying all along, I am looking forward to seeing Spartans on the field next summer. Thanks again to everyone from this corps for their past efforts and best wishes to all in the future, wherever it may lead them.
  17. Good to hear! I think it is nice touch to start off your audition weekend with your awards banquet. I applaud everyone at Teal Sound for your generosity ... "The corps wrapped up the weekend with it's version of "Show and Teal" by presenting US Marine Corps Staff Sargent, David Moore, 6 large boxes of toys that were collected by the attending members for the "Toys for Teal" drive." Thanks for the mini "Show and Teal" for us all.
  18. Sounds like a good choice for Raiders in '08. Movements and musical selections mentioned so far are all interesting. I have heard an excellent string orchestra rendition of the "O Magnum Mysterium" choral piece. I shall be looking forward to seeing Raiders next summer!
  19. Thanks for the info! Nice old photo. I remember the green and black uni's. I remember the Bedford Militiamen, too. They wore purple and black, if I recall correctly. There's a lot of these old pictures and such in the Historical Forum section of DCP for those of you who are interested.
  20. There was a young man asking how Citations got their name awhile back on these forums. I do not recall seeing an answer. Maybe you could shed some light on this subject for all of us? Looking forward to seeing Citations show on a field near me next summer,
  21. Time to put this thread to rest ... winter is closing in around me today as the snow falls ... I like winter ... I have lived many places and it is here that calls me home ... I like to watch the changing seasons ... It was a good summer for this drum corps fan in '07. Thanks one last time to everyone who marched for making it so memorable. If you were following all these rambles and I missed reviewing your corps, I am sorry for my omission and I hope I do better for you next year. Next year ... ... time to put a log on the fire, pull out the calendar and the maps and plan and dream of summer ... Now that the DCI 2008 schedule is up, I am turning my attention forward with pleasure toward whatever next summer may bring. May it be a happy and successful one for each and everyone of you. I have seen a lot come to pass in the many years since I marched, some better than others, but as much as I like to reflect about what has passed, I am a forward-thinking person. I have always tried to remain open to the possibilities in life and seek the good things it has to offer. It has not always been easy. I wish to leave you now with one thought ... I have seen many changes over the years and I would like to say this loud and clear ... change can be a good thing ... look forward to the best that is yet to be and you will find it. Best wishes for the New Year.
  22. I am liking some new faces in the line-up in the Boston Crusaders Home Show in Lawrence this year on July 31st ... in addition to the "home team" ... The Academy (no "regional tour" for them this year!) The Cavaliers (always good to see the Cavies) Pacific Crest (also do not usually come this far to the northeast) Santa Clara Vanguard (oh yeah! ... the kids are going to love this one) Spartans (always good to see them in the East Coast Classic) ... ... the kids will be missing Phantom and Crown, though ... A lot of corps that usually come this way, are not going to be seen until Allentown this year. But, hey, it's all good.
  23. Well ... looking at the schedule ... (Thank You, DCI!)... the New London show looks to be the first one near me ... My grandson actually found this before me and sent me his first "Can we go, please?" request of the year ... I am marking it on my calendar for the beginning of my drum corps summer 2008 ... and making plans to be there!
  24. This is great ... one of the best recruitment videos I have seen. Best of luck to Fever for another outstanding year! See you at Indy
  25. I am sorry you are so unhappy about this. I admit when I first read about the coming changes in the Spartan staff and design team, I felt apprehensive and a little sad. I have really enjoyed their shows the past few years. However, I am more than willing to give a new team a chance to show us what they can do. Maybe it will be a building year for the them. Maybe not. Maybe this will be the start of a really great year for them and another championship. Maybe this is part of a long range plan. I do not know. But I do know that I look forward to seeing Spartans next summer on the field. This is a strong corps with a long history ... and, I believe, a strong future. If they build it, people will most definately come.
