  1. Glad you liked the show! Just one correction for you. The guitar notes are not prerecorded. The guitarist is live on either an acoustic electric or electric guitar with a wireless connection to our speaker system - 100% authentic musician and skill.
  2. And on July 14 in Millbrook, AL :) https://southwind.ticketspice.com/darr
  3. Due to an overwhelming positive response to the corps this winter, we have decided to further expand our horn line over our initial goal for the 2017 season. We are adding an additional 4 baritone and 2 tuba positions. We are looking for talented musicians to join us at our next camp on March 24-26 at George County High School in Lucedale, MS. If you think you have what it takes, then we want to hear from you! Send a message to our recruiting manager at auditions@southwind.org for information on how you can audition for one of these positions. Video auditions are available, but you need to act fast. Join us for our return to DCI finals competition for the first time in 10 years!
  4. No argument there! Even with our TAMA endorsement, they are a bit too expensive at our current stage of the game :)
  5. Here's a small correction: Southwind uses a TAMA battery but not Kanstul horns. Horns are King.
  6. Southwind is based out of Mobile, AL and being evaluated by DCI for Open class for 2015.
  7. That's a great idea! There's a 'donate' button on the website. http://southwind.southwindalumni.org/en/ Every little bit helps.
  8. Southwind is in Mobile, AL. www.joinsouthwind.org
  9. You are correct! I marched Southwind in 1991 and we toured mostly with Cadets. I saw that show nearly every night for the entire summer. We always hoped he would get the girl and on Finals, he did...
  10. This means they're still kicking. Hang in there SW!
  11. Just to finish this thread... Mike Loeffelholz, director of Southwind has posted the text of the email he recently sent to members, alumni, and friends. I've posted it here. ********** Dear friends, I am sorry to inform you that Southwind will not field a competitive drum corps for the 2009 season. Although we have made great strides in board development and community involvement, we are simply not financially ready for such a commitment. We could put a corps on the field, but we could not guarantee the quality experience that our students, alumni, and fans have come to expect. As we work toward our return in 2010, we thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Mike Loeffelholz, Director Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps ***********
  12. Sorry dude, just respecting the corps and its director by not posting his email. I will say that Southwind will not be fielding a corps in 09. They are not folding, just want to get their finances in order and are looking towards 2010. That's the summary. Good luck to Southwind. I made a donation last week. All of you should do the same to your favorite corps.
  13. Fry Session - a time when the entire corps came together where members could "air-out" any conflicts that had with other members and staff. Usually mid-field on the 50 at whatever field we were practicing. Good times...
  14. Our food crew made a Salisbury Steak-kinda-meatloaf thingy. Basically it was layers of frozen hamburger patties covered in brown gravy and baked in a giant aluminum pan until it was warm. The most enlightening thing was that the patties had "grill" markings on both sides ....BUT there were no grills on my tour!
  15. Went to the theater in Tanforan Mall in San Bruno, CA. Had a great time. The theater wasn't sold out, but there were plenty of screens in the Bay Area to spread the fans around. The theaters near Santa Clara and Concord were probably packed. We did have a hick-up in Cavies show, but only enough time for a loud "NO!" before it came right back up. I thought DCI did a great job. I never have to see another ESPN broadcoast again. I'll be at the theater every year now. For a live broadcast, the guys were very smooth with filling time. Almost wish there was more space in between corps to discuss their moves. Sorry for you guys that had thunderstorms on the East Coast. It was clear Phantom was the Phavorite in our theater too. I loved how after Phantoms DM was speared, the assistant DM conducted the corps with his foot propped on the dead DM's body. Cool. I wish they were broadcasting Semis and Finals to the theaters. I'd be there every night. I was completely entertained by every corps. LL
  16. I was just thinking about this a couple days ago. A good tip for all those marchers today - Order your jacket one size larger so you can "grow" into it.
  17. The move was not in the Stanford show. It was in the show in Ogden this past Thursday.
  18. You know that last set is going to change by Finals. They have to come back together for a wedge. Smokin'
  19. Saw SCV in Ogden a couple days ago. New guard uniforms at the end. Saw troop too. Great show. Lots of details.
  20. That's not a bad idea. I bet they never think about that. The best part about the interview is how they are already adding details to the show. Can't wait to see this one!
  21. THANK YOU PAT! Wow, what a great story. I was lucky enough to be part of the Red and Black Southwind Family back in 1991. What a great time. Dave Bryan gave everything for our corps. Your post reminds me how much he cared about us. Ha! I still remember him spooning out Robotussin to a quarter of the horn line one morning after we all came down with a nasty cold during tour (I was one of them). I also remember him standing on a hill that overlooked our practice field every night while we did our run-throughs. It was like he was watching over his sheep. Southwind will return. Go Big Dave. Bo-Be-Ba-Ba-BO-BO!
  22. Hopefully it's just a year. I cannot imagine them being gone.
  23. So, I just looked at my ancient tour shirt and we were in Daytona on July 9 and Melborne on July 10, 1991. Can't tell you what high school we performed at but it was pretty big. I remember Cadets, Crossmen, Spirit, Magic, SouthWind, Caroina Crown, and Florida Wave performing. While we were in formation to go on for retreat (those were the days), there was a block of Suncoast Sound (in uniform and with horns) next to us. Whispers spread through our block like we just saw Elvis. Still don't know what that was about...
