  1. The rug really does tie everything together.
  2. How come they advertised this as a multicam event but they didn't even show that?
  3. The current TOC standings would just be the average scores from the three (four after tonight) TOC shows to date.
  4. What shows have you seen live? Did you have crappy seats?
  5. After last night's show in Bentonville, AR I'm spoiled with the nice cool weather we had at the show. We have 50 yrd line seats about a third of way up tonight. I don't think I've ever been on the 50 anywhere. Last night sat on the right 40 to see Crown's CG fall on the ground. I love that show! Enjoy the show tonight everyone. Spirit's show is fun when they do the drinking at the bar.
  6. Amen to everything you said. It was a great show! I love the stadium there. Row 9 seats on the 40 were great too.
  7. I was at the show tonight. Yes, the Blue Star men were incredible with their rifles and sabers. Also with dancing as the voodoo dolls.
  8. "Dude", I'm not talking about general crowd reaction. I'm talking about the "loner-whoop" as Pete Freedman, who took the time to understand my post, called it. Also not talking about general crowd reaction after a colorguard moment either. Here is a video of Santa Clara playing "Send in the Clowns". It's not the best example because there is a baby jabbering close to the videographer. No one does it in this video, but what I'm talking about is some "lone whooper" choosing, say 1:33, to be annoying http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toHViolUxeA
  9. Thank you burgerbob. And just to clarify, I'm only talking about a passage of music where the silence is intentional after a huge release. For example, there is one when SCV plays "Send in the Clowns".
  10. At the next show I go to, during a quiet passage I will start yelling like I'm calling the cattle in for feeding. Yeah. I'll tell anyone that gets annoyed to get over their fine self.
  11. I hate it when someone whoops out a high-pitched "whooo!" right after a prolonged, loud hold. After the release during the brief silence, I'm soaking in the wonderful sound I just heard that contrasts so beautifully with that silence. But there is usually one idiot that ruins it by whooping "whooo!". PISSES ME OFF! Heard it just tonight at the theater.
  12. If people stopped booing then they wouldn't care anymore. We should worry when people don't care anymore. I think we are seeing already the frustration of people from last year's finals results and them thinking "Here we go again!" As hard-earned-cash-paying spectators they are letting the judges know they aren't happy how this rodeo is being run! I personally really LOVE Crown's music and LOVE their visual program. I personally like BD's music but am completely uninspired by their visual program. But the two shows are like comparing apples and oranges in a way, just like last year. So I'm one of those people who don't want it to go down like last year. I don't know if I would boo at a live show or not.
  13. UPDATE In light of the fact that DCI, DCA, and many of their member corps have embraced YouTube as a resource for making video content available to the general public - we are amending our policy regarding links to YouTube videos of drum corps. Effective immediately, links to YouTube.com will be permitted for drum corps content. DrumCorpsPlanet.com will continue to prohibit links to all other sites in-accordance with our long-standing policy on links to copyrighted materials.
  14. Not knowing anything about all these cables I went to Best Buy and told them what I wanted to do. The guy ran and grabbed me a cable and said "here is what you need!". You just hook it up, and set the tv to receive the input from it and you are off and running.
  15. INT always has the most nuanced show, every season, hands down.
  16. Synchonized light show of 50 drones: http://dvice.com/archives/2012/09/watch-record-br.php Here are some lights that a corp could use!
  17. I would love to see that show live done by a corp that could pull it off. A 20th year tribute.
  18. The good thing about that would be that you can exclude any terribly exposed CG rifle toss drops. The 1993 finals DVD has several of these. I would have loved to have seen tosses from other nights included where everyone caught their tosses, rather than seeing a closeup of the one CG member chase after a bouncing rifle. The bad thing about this is that the viewer won't know what shots were from finals or not. So if "cleaner" shots from QF or SF are used when the Finals performance was subpar, then fans could have a "we wuz robbed" fit.
  19. The commentary BETWEEN the shows. I don't think I remember ever seeing any where there was commentary DURING the show. OMG did they really do that?! I would hate that.
  20. The argument "If you can't do better then don't criticize" is not valid. I don't know anything about creating special effects in blockbuster movies, but if I see a movie with crappy special effects then any suggestions I may write in a review are appropriate. I am not, by the way, saying the current productions have been crappy. I think they have been great. There are always ways to improve any effort. I'm sure even the director would admit that. There have been some good ideas on this thread already. I have lots of the PBS/ESPN shows taped on video. I only have one DCI year DVD (1993) and the two DCI Countdown DVDs. Some things I don't like are: 1) seeing a close up of an big rifle toss and then someone drops it. For a finished product (not the live show), maybe a wider shot could be shown instead. I don't know. If you didn't show it all then you would have people complaining that the "big" rifle toss was ignored. I'm amazed at how many times this happens on the 1993 dvd. I always cringe and feel so sorry for the CG person. 2) the camera cutting to the pit immediately AFTER a big a mallet riff. So instead of seeing the pit player playing you see them standing there putting their mallets away, sometimes even turning away. 3) the camera showing a close up of a drum feature while a VERY cool drill with marching & CG is going on. I would rather see a close up of the percussion when there is isn't a killer effect taking place. Some things I like are: 1) a variety of close-ups, high shots, and in-between. Effects just as zooming can be enhancing if for example, there is a very slow section with little movement, and the camera slowly zooms up on a soloist. 2) I really liked the commentary during the PBS shows, and I like it during the theater broadcast. I would love to hear it during the FN broadcasts. I know, $. -
