  1. Thank you for starting another thread for purely financial discussions. It was interesting, and understandable, to see that a concern regarding lighting is money. Other concerns were issues with stadium lighting in outdoor venues, power supply (some stadiums not equiped/loud generators), and more. Kevin Powell and others had some interesting ideas on the possibilities, such as lights projected onto flags, or uniforms. Could the current black backdrop of indoor shows be made optionally white if a corp wanted to project color or pictures to complement their show? The concern that if one winning corp does it then everyone will HAVE to do it is a valid concern I think. I've heard narration done well in a place where narration seemed to fit so it was enhancing. I've also heard it done awkwardly in a place where it didn't seem to fit so it was distracting. Perhaps lighting could be enhancing when used appropriately.
  2. If "staging" is the new mantra & direction of drum corp show design, is lighting the next big thing? From "A conversation with Michael Cesario" http://www.mastersmarchingarts.com/2011/index.php/85-2012-summer/112-a-conversation-with-michael-cesario I can't think of any drum corp show I've personally seen that incorporated any lighting effects. Has anyone? I've seen a high school band show at night where they had neon-glow stuff on their uniforms that looked really cool when they dimmed the stadium lights.
  3. I'm the same way. One year I decided to see my first regional so went on a long road trip with my young neice. Our tickets were on the 20 yrd line and I did not enjoy the competition. I didn't even feel like I was there. We were (over here) and the competition was taking place -------------------------------------------->(over there). I've been a bit hesitant to get tickets at Indy becuase I've read where certain seats have either rails or plexiglass in your line of site. Did they ever get that problem resolved? I would hate to be staring at either all night
  4. Can someone explain to me the mechanics of how exactly they can mess up announcing the winner of high brass?
  5. Everyone wakes up and realizes that the Blue Devil show was just a crazy dream caused by Vicodin that the dentist gave.
  6. I think it was $17 at the Tulsa Cinemark. We missed 1/2 of Bluecoats and most of SCV but those two shows were replayed at the end. The manager gave free drink and popcorn refills during the wait if you had a cup/bucket. The theater was packed as always.
  7. The OP paid $ for the product so I think they have a right to comment on what they paid for. Also, arguing that a person should be able to do a better job before making any judgement is not a good argument. For example, I may see a movie that ends up having crappy special effects. I don't know anything about creating special effects, so I couldn't do a better job, but I still might have valid comments regarding them.
  8. I didn't get to see BD live at a show this year. Wish I could have. I wonder if a decade from now the tide will turn and the show will be recognized as a classic. This happened with '93 Star.
  9. When watching in multi-cam you would hope they would choose a humongous(MM & CG) cool drill move over the drummers standing there. Sorry drummers!
  10. Ok guys. As someone who is trained and certified in First Aid, I mistakenly assumed my comment would be taken within the context of the entire standard CHECK-CALL-CARE protocol. It was meant as a initial visual assessment as an initial responder first becomes aware of the problem, not as a simple way to dismiss the entire situation. Sorry for any misunderstanding. Now back to BD hating....;-) P.S. I work with developmentally disabled people so often I have to figure things out without the benefit of getting verbal or nonverbal answers to questions. Also please take my comment within that context.
  11. Not a good idea. When a spectator travels over two hours one way to a show to an unfamiliar venue they may be (and I have been) delayed for various reasons. If you turn them away they will never return. Bad idea. Are you going to ask people why they are leaving then tell them to go back to their seat if they don't need a take a #1 or a #2? I went to a show where I wasn't allowed to leave to go to my car during intermission. I raised a stink here in DCP and vowed to never return to that show. I like that idea!
  12. If you're grabbing and holding your leg and looking around with a distressed look on your face that is a good clue it's a pulled muscle. If you aren't moving much and look like you may have passed out or are about to pass out, it's heat exhaustion. Not too hard to figure out.
  13. Did his pain stop just because they helped him hobble off of the field? I don't think so. Heat exhaustion is a life or death concern. A pulled muscle is not.
  14. I made the mistake of inviting my cousin over to watch. She wanted the sounds turned DOWN. I gave up and turned it on the Olympics.
  15. I hope by the next show the camera crew will decide to show the really cool drill during SCV's show instead of some drummers standing still banging their snares.
  16. Anyone know where I could see a closeup pic of the guard outfits?
  17. I think someone told him and he figured out it's only when he posts that it makes the sound.
  18. Someone please tell Boo thank you for posting the heads up for people to mute his blog. Tell him the sound of him typing does not come across. It's just that for some reason you keep hearing "click-click-click" (3 or 4 clicks) periodically real loud.
  19. You mean the interweb thingy, the one with email? Why yes we do!
  20. Thank you to whoever gave this tip earlier: If you have Boo's live blog on and you hear periodic "click click click"s, then hit the mute button on his blog. I listened to those loud clicks every minute or so for every single live show where he blogged. Now I know what to do to get rid of them. Maybe he can give that tip on his blog?
