Late 70s Crossmen had buses that had “seen better days”. 😱 One was called the Hindenburg. No idea which one it was but bus #1 burned a lot of engine oil. You could tell because the front corner of bus #2 was black from the oil smoke. 😨😨

This actually made me laugh out loud!  Oh, the good old days.  VK had some old buses from the late 50's?  One was called Silver sides and once inside you felt like you were headed toward a dark goth underworld

Glad I'm not there.  What I can't understand is 1) They've hosted DCI before. They should know the routine by now; 2) They host the Colts, which get at least 3x the number of people.

I know they're not staffed at NFL event levels and that's OK because you don't really need much backfield.  But the other side should be staffed normally.  There would be a riot if the lines were this long for football or a big concert.

I got a feeling they won't have these issues when Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett are here Tuesday night.

  3. I waited 10 minutes in line at the most.  Folks saw the long line on the NE corner and just got in it.  I walked on the opposite side of the street along the post office and saw nine gates and 2- 3 of them had less than 20 people in line. And this was near 545pm.  If I recall in 2009 or 12, the souvie stands were placed in either the area behind the north end zone (same or a lower level ) or way up on a higher level.  That year, fans went into the main gates near where sound sport was being held on Saturday.  Plus,  I saw a number of elderly fans needing and struggling to walk up the various group of stairs from the east entrance to the west side.

My other observation was for the entire three days, there were no concession stands open from the east entrance until they got past the marketplace.  I had numerous folks stop to ask me where I got my drink from.  The lines in the Wynn club were really long and then by Friday and Saturday, other concessions had opened up past the main west area but closer to the performer's entrance from the lots.  But this was in a location where probably 60-70% of fans would not walk to in order to enter their respective tunnel.  A poorly executed plan by DCI and LOS higher ups.

  4. Plaintiff mentioned has been a long time volunteer and driver for various corps i.e.  BK,  BD, Troopers among others.  He also marched in the 70's with the USAF drum and bugle corps.  When I didn't see him or hear of his whereabouts this summer, some of his closest friends only heard he was taking the summer off.  Get well Tony.

    Hello people...

I'm going to say again that the OC accusations on Reddit are flying fast and furious and I feel compelled to defend the corps and I will continue to do so. There is a grain of truth to some of the charges, and OC is addressing these issues but they are GETTING BLOWN UP AND OUT OF CONTROL.

I was on tour with OC in 2014.  Let's just take the case of the homophobic bus driver.  I RODE THE PERCUSSION BUS WITH THAT JERK and yes, he was awful.  The drivers were employees of a hired bus company.  NOT OC's FAULT when in the middle of tour the complaints about the drivers start rolling in.  What were they to do?  I do believe the bus company WAS contacted and told of the horrible attitude of the drivers and to my knowledge, they never used that company again.  The brass bus driver had to be kept awake by the cook mom on the bus who then had to freaking make breakfast at 5 AM.  That was a horrible situation but again, NOT OC's fault.  I clearly remember one of the other cook moms and I talking at length with the board president after DATR about the percussion driver and he was VERY RECEPTIVE  to our concerns.  As far as how MQ handled the gay member's assault, I can't speak to his exact actions but I refuse to believe he did it the horrific way described on Reddit. I have been in contact with MQ recently, and have talked at length with my son about all of these accusations and....neither he nor I believe this puffed up rumor mill.

He marched with the corps for FIVE YEARS and saw none of this.  Yes, everyone knew that a certain percussion staff member known as MS was a jerk .  I wasn't surprised that he was gone for the 2018 season.  I'm sure there will be repercussions regarding his actions and I will attest that the information about him specifically could be fact but all the rest of this stuff I am having a hard time believing was as horrific as described.

I have never stuck my neck out here on DCP but I'm doing it now.  Flame me all you want.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I recall those bus drivers on 2014 and they were a strange group of older men.  One thing was for sure.  They had no knowledge of anything related to drum corps or how the tour played out over the summer.  Two of them approached me asking if they requested hotel rooms instead of sleeping at the school and getting money for "real" meals instead of eating with the corps, if that would be given to them.  I told them unless it's your contract, I doubt it.  One of them (brass bus?) made it a point to turn down the member's hype music on the way to a show and would play country music just to #### them off.  Not the crime of the century but just stupid things like that.  As for nearly falling asleep at the wheel, I recall one of the drivers (probably  the brass bus) as we arrived in Cheyenne about 6am from Ogden waiting to get the all go to unload and settle in, I walked over to his bus to give him a message and there he was passed out on the steering wheel not five minutes from when we pulled in.  That scared the living S&*t out of me thinking he barely made it to the school.

On another note two years later I was friended by a gal that I met on a free day in 2014 who was the older sister of a then current member.  They both found me somehow and the gal revealed to me her younger sister had decide to quit drum corps because of MS's comments and leering towards her.  She still had many years under her belt left to march and I have not seen her with any other corps since.  This would be her age out year in 2019.  At the time, the two gals thought they didn't have enough if any evidence to file a complaint.  One of the sad stories that comes out of this mess.

    Big friction about... (secret)?

I'm not sure if this was the start of all this or just a part of a bigger issue, but there was an incident in Denver with one particular member and the parents of the member who couldn't get either a straight answer or a quick response.  Now if this lack of communication was being blamed at the corps director ( who may not have been on tour at the time) or someone else who was in charge of the staff in his absence, I couldn't tell you.  But I know MQ fairly well and I can't believe he would ignore a situation or conflict on purpose

  7. Joel Alleyene and the late Dan Veerhusen were both great.  I  met Dan a number of times.  I last saw him in the press box in 06 with the alumni corps.  He remembered me from our days in 79 and 80. I'd also like to mention Milt Allen of the Sky Ryders, Bret Mascaro of the Crossmen and Jim Jordan of the Bridgemen.

  8. Spent a week in Ohio doing all of the HOF events, the Rock and Roll Museum and the Indians-Yankees game.  My last event was the show last night.  Wow, that place was packed especially at the main entrance and at the souvenir stands.  Being near the top of the stadium, I had great views and what seemed like great sound though I wonder how much the speakers and the roof might have contributed to keeping the volume inside the stadium.  I was really impressed with Boston since seeing them in June and the Cadets and Cavaliers both grew on me since the start of the season as well.  My brother attended a show with me for the first time in probably 30 years and he described the shows now being more of a Cirque du Soleil  feel with the props and dancing and story lines.  He didn't look at it in a bad way just different from when I marched and was surprised how professional every show looked.  He did ask though why there were so many mics and relayed to me how that could be judged fairly unless everyone is using the exact same equipment and parameters of the electronics.  He did ask if DCI would have a best sound man award which made me chuckle.  A great night of drum corps, but my only concern was it took forever to get to the top rows of the stadium and I didn't dare leave at intermission.  I didn't want to miss anybody.  Maybe the HOF stadium in Canton is a better choice in the future.  No Indy for me this year as this week and the Masters in April ran me into five figures.
