  2. Not either corps I marched with, but I did see a D1 corps in Indy at the Hoosierdome ( or whatever it was being called then) in 2005 line up 5 yards too far to the left on side 2. They recovered by the end of the opening number and when I saw the horn cap head in the stands, I remarked to her that they did recover nicely. The look of disgust on her face said it all. And the director later asked me , "How can we rehearse this show for months and nobody in the corps informs the DM or he doesn't notice that we are lined up wrong?" He was truly concerned as DCI in Foxboro was only a few days away. A couple of members I knew told me they had never seen him or the staff so mad at the entire corps and that night bus ride was the longest ride they ever had as kids stayed up for quite some time arguing and pointing fingers at who was at fault. I'd bet this has happened to a few corps at one time.
  3. We were at our housing site near Marion Ohio for the US Open when we heard Thurman Munson was killed flying his airplane in Canton in 1979.
  4. And no taking chocolate baths while we're at it!
  5. I'm so grateful that Robert Lendman has been selected for the Hall of Fame. Thank you DCI, this is well deserved. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php/topic/144807-my-tribute-and-story/
  6. T.M. in 79. His yelling and screaming didn't do any good. In fact I told him so. It's just the way he was.
  7. Not quite the one I was thinking of, but this particular person not only marched overage, he came from another corps that was DQ'd for the same offense and later became a DCI judge and was assigned to either prelims or finals one year and P*^^#% off one west coast corps with his numbers. He is referenced in the "old corps photos" section by a couple of different people who expand on that incident.
  8. Thanks Brian, That gives a new meaning to the term, "There goes the neighborhood.... and the corps".
  9. Not quite true. I know of someone who was either 26 or 27 at the time he marched a few shows including DCi prelims.
  10. I don't see it on the first page anymore :( I have many more to post, but it's too much work to go thru all the pages and see if they are not already there. I guess the best way to prevent that is to post personal photos taken versus photos clipped from long gone magazines and newspapers.
  11. I answered a question correctly a few pages back, so here is my question, but I'm am searching for the answer myself. Hopefully somebody here will know the answer. The Beckman family had 5 sons all march with the Madison Scouts together I believe at one time in the late 70's. I know of one family who had 7 and possibly all 8 sons and daughters march (not together) with one west coast corps. Does anybody know of another family who had as many or more children march with one corps ? I'm trying to confirm the eighth child, Nancy and Dale you can probably help me with that....
  12. I have two guesses, my first is Marie Czapinski.
  13. You are correct Michael, Doris Wentland was the person representing DCI at the time who recieved the summons. Perhaps I made the question a little too tough. The fine was $300 and in a ironic twist the Boulder Chamber of Commerce paid the fine for DCI. People thought drum corps would never return to Boulder after this fiasco, but Boulder HS hosted a show at Recht Field in 1982 and DATR was moved to Folsom Field in 1987.
  14. No new trivia question? Hell I'm bored and it's snowing like crazy here in Denver so here's one, a three parter. Who was issued the summons for disturbing the peace/noise pollution in Boulder during DCI in 1978? And how much was the fine and who paid the fine?
  15. We were wondering the same thing about the whereabouts of any police, but they would have been outnumbered themselves.
  16. I made friends with a couple of members of the CMCC Warriors at some shows we appeared in together. They were from the street so to speak, but they enjoyed music and were using drum corps as a way out of "that life" back home. But I remember them telling me they would go at it with anybody who disrespected them. They were cool cats but I wouldn't have crossed them for anything.
  17. This is not about a fight but a scary situation one of my corps had to endure. We did a parade in Big Bear, California in the early summer and I don't know if a biker rally was also going on in town that weekend, but we were scheduled to march in a parade for their local "town" days. We marched the parade but not w/o some incredible taunting and name calling from the bikers who had lined up along the parade route. And I'm not talking a dozen or so members, but hundreds thru the entire route. As we stayed as composed and professional as we could, it was very rough on all of us keeping our focus as a lot of the bikers decided to break and dance thru our ranks, bang on the drums, and grab of few our girl's behinds. A few even decided to ride their bikes thru us. Man, they were as drunk and high and obnoxious as you can imagine. We were so relieved just to get outta there w/o somebody doing something stupid to get us hurt.

  19. Michael, I didn't realize this but I found out thru a mutual drum corps friend that Doug lived about 6 miles from me. Too bad we never ran into each other as I've always have a drum corps shirt, hat, or jacket on when I'm out and about.
