You should tell the f mellos in the band I teach. I can't get them to play soft enough. I think they're the same Yamahas Cadets use, and the're like friggin' megaphones! I know I'm talking about a band vs. drum corps, but still...
  5. Phantom has always been one of my favorites. 1983, 1812 Overature, 89 New World, 91 intro was one of the great moments, and Mello solos ever; '96 finals performance the corps was in another realm, 2000 Transfigured Night, magnificent. DM Tommy Feagan(sp?), one of the great drum corps conductors of all time! Must hear 2000 Regiment again! (for the 50,000th time)

I really don't have a preference. Woob is right, technique is what makes the sound of a hornline. Arranging style plays a part too. The biggest physical difference in a Bb line is the trumpet. Put a sop and a tpt next to each other and you'll see what I mean. But tubas, baris and mellos won't sound much different because their construction is so similar to a bugle. Back to the point about technique; Think about the lines that have switched to Bb since 2000. BD, Cadets, Cavies, SCV, all sound very much like they did before the switch. (To my ears, intonation might be just a little better.) Some have suggested that corps can't play as loud on Bbs, but I think that is more a function of teaching than instrument change. Most people said SCV didn't lose ANY volume last year at all. Interesting topic!
  7. It's awesome to hear about all the great senior and alum corps stuff happening out west. I'm in Wisconsin, and we just had Mn Brass here. They were scary(in a REALLY good way), but I wish I could see some of you westerners too. Maybe someday.....
  8. Maybe Royal Airs could come to Menomonie next year? What do you think?
  9. Great review! Thanks again for coming to the show. I know it was a long weekend of driving for you, but I hope you feel it was worth it. We want this to be a show first and foremost for the fans, and I think we are well on our way to achieving that. Your compliments about the show, how it was run, web site, stadium etc., are greatly appreciated! Come again next year!! Atye FMM Star of Indianahttp://www.cvtn.com/redcedardrums/
  10. Thanks to everyone for the replies! We do hope this will become an annual 'MUST SEE' show in this part of the country. Glad you liked the stadium Andrew, and thanks for the comments about the web site and the general experience. Here's the web address again. http://www.cvtn.com/redcedardrums/ In the coming days and weeks you may see pictures and other goodies from Sunday's show. Come check it out! Atye, FMM Star of Indiana
