  1. Maybe the simple questions that should be asked are: What is the objective of the activity? What is the fundamental mission? How can the over-arching business model be aligned with the answers to the above questions?
  2. Madison Scouts 1971 Repertoire: Somewhere Over The Rainbow (from The Wizard of Oz) Follow The Yellow Brick Road (from The Wizard of Oz) We're Off To See The Wizard (form The Wizard of Oz) Talk To The Animals (from Dr. Doolittle) Parade Of The Wooden Soldiers Some Day My Prince Will Come (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) Hi Ho (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) Yankee Doodle Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead (from The Wizard of Oz)
  3. I saw in a Facebook post by the Scouts that they have already added one Teal Sound member. The above memtioned need for a lead is separate from that. It would be nice if Teal had a kid that meets the technical requirements.
  4. In a Facebook post, the Scouts said that they had already added one Teal Sound member.
  5. Does anyone know why the Scouts percussion score took such a hit?
  6. Typo, can't figure out how to edit the title. If a Mod can edit the title to the correct date, please do so to help us not to get too far off topic. Thanks
  7. I think all of us have heard various stories over the years about corps helping each other out in times of distress. From lending busses and corps trucks, to providing meals, to lending equipment, to sharing housing sites, etc. Even though corps “compete” against each other, this activity really is a large extended family. When something as catastrophic (for the kids involved) as this happens, seeing the response from the extended “family” is really heartwarming. Yes, there will be a lot of finger pointing down the road, but seeing other crops reach out to these kids and staff agreeing to do re-write drills to accommodate more kids is wonderful. These are the kind of lessons that all of the young people in the activity are really learning about what’s important in our world today. Well done all!
  8. These two schools are a LONG way from each other.
  9. Who remembers the phrase "zero-ed out"?
  10. I have seen various discussions on this over the years with some links to other discussions on other web sites. I think there is one on the 1976 Muchachos in the History Forum with some good links to stuff about the 1975 situation. One of the things I have seen mentioned in a few places is that there were 22 birth certificates that were considered to be suspect. If that is true, then you are talking about marching 22 holes, or 22 rookies (assuming that the corps leadership would have heeded the multiple warnings about marching over-age members). I think that would make the 1975 Muchachos a completely different animal. Edit: Actually, the 1976 Muchachos thread is a little below this one as of now.
  11. I've have also hear the comment on not being able to use leggings (not spats) with the new (this year) uniform bottoms as the lower leg is quite tapered. If you see a picture of this year’s uniform, you can easily see that the pant bottom is very tapered indeed.
  12. I got change, and I'm not upset. So, I'm either not "you", or not "they", or both.
  13. Here's to the opposite of that happening.
  14. In the case of Madison, having Lee Beddis as caption head certainly seems to have improved the talent level of the percussion section. Overall, the corps has been improving in all areas over the last three seasons under Chris Komnick.
  15. Which corps that hasn't been in finals has placed 6th?
  16. Most of the rest of the country thinks all we have is winter. Surprise, surprise.
  17. some I'm not sure either. It was the case in my day that the majority of the UW band members were not music majors. I've heard that that is still the case. I wonder if some try out and don't make it, or if having the winter camps in Texas part of the cause. When I marched, two of us snare drummers were also Scouts. I hope that more will find an opportunity to do both. If you live in Madison, those are THE two music groups to be a part of.
