  1. And if you boo, then you've got to have the "cajones" to take it when other people call you out as an idiot for doing it. edit: typing
  2. Agreed. Some of the hardest drill I marched involved curvilinear reshapes. (And yes, you could tell if we marched it poorly.)
  3. Is Finals attendance higher now in the tape-delay age than in the live broadcast days? (I've never seen the numbers)
  4. Right now, they've got tennis and little league baseball on. Nothing obscure but, sadly (for me, at least), nothing to do with DCI either.
  5. IMO, geometric drill does not equate to harder. Some of the hardest drill I had to march involved "curvy" re-shapes. Sometimes, what may look hard from the stands is actually easier, just as what may look easy to an outsider is a royal pain to pull off from the field.
  6. Yeah, I've said several times that, while the cinecast or webcast are nice options, Saturday night is the main event, what everyone is waiting for and wanting to see the most. Duh. ("The play's the thing.") For me, nothing has ever replaced the thrill of watching live Finals performances, and hearing the scores and placements at the same time as the participants and attending crowd. Hitting "refresh" just doesn't cut it. Unfortunately, the prevailing opinion seems to be that we'll never go back to that. Still, I can hope...
  7. In a way, that's kinda what I was referring too, but from the other perspective. (Honestly, I don't have an opinion as to their scoring or placement--haven't been able to see anyone live this year...It's more that I'm an alumnus, they're my favorite corps, and this kind of thing tends to stick in my craw.) I've seen this from both sides of the fence--Regiment fans ###### because they think the corps was underscored, other fans who are either ###### because they think Regiment scored too high or their favorite corps was unjustly scored too low. It doesn't really matter to me what either camp thinks (all opinions, biases, etc) but more that I don't think it's fair that it's "okay" to say Corps X didn't get due credit, but then say fans of Corps Y are homers/haters/honks/whiners, etc. for basically saying the same thing. Believe me, I get as much "tired head" ($1 to The Ticket) hearing "we got screwed" or so and so "got a gift," etc. It's annoying and gets old. But, if some people are going to get called out on this, then everyone should. This stuff almost always seems to fall along party lines. Not surprising, I suppose; human nature. (My wife's sociology degree must be rubbing off.) It's always the same crap, from practically every fan base out there--when "they" complain, it's "whining" but when "we" do--hey, it's the "truth!" Anyway, this is all beside the real point of this weekend: to enjoy some kick ### drum corps. So, as I usually try to do, I'll do my best to keep my atttention on that.
  8. Agreed. As I'm sure you noticed that I didn't agree with the "screwed" comment either.... In fact, my question was intended to clarify whether this term was the main reason you thought he was a whiner and not because he voiced an opinion that Regiment might have been underscored. (Which I took as an echo of what you said--from the opposite perspective--in your post.) I asked this not out of sarcasm, but more... doubtfulness. Yes, I did see that you clarified your statement with "unless," but I took it as more of a backhanded compliment or caveat. If your sentiment was genuine then, of course, I will recant.
  9. Do you think he's a "whiner" because he think's the corps was underscored or because he used the term "screwed?" (Which, btw, I don't agree with.) From a much earlier thread... You (and others) are pretty quick to cry foul if Regiment scores higher than some of your favorites (e.g. Crown, Bluecoats), yet when someone else posts similar thoughts, but from the other side of the pendulum, they're a "whiner." If you honestly wrote this because he thought the corps was "screwed," then whatever. But, if you didn't, then I think it's a little ironic.
  10. Okay, I'll ante up... If DCI made the agreement on Wed that the field would be re-lined, then they should have been held to it. This is their screwup for not taking care of it. If the 'rules are rules,' then 'agreements are agreements.' Had this not been the case, then I think the Cadets would have been much less likely to get the reversal. Same thing if DCI had declined their request to postpone the show-- then The Cadets receive a penalty. But, the moment DCI agreed to halt the show, they lost the right to penalize them (for this specifically--amp trouble etc. would still be just cause). It would be like getting a hall pass to take a leak only to be handed a tardy slip once you got back to the classroom. Yeah, you should have gone in between classes but, once the teacher says, "Okay," then you shouldn't take a hit for it. Just my opinion.
  11. Phantom Regiment needs narration like a bull needs... um, mammary glands.
  12. Very sad news. I can only echo what the others have said--I remember her as a very nice, very talented member of the corps. My thoughts are with her family.
  13. I don't think the point has ever been to simply show it off as a difficult move. People are way over thinking this. It's simply a signature move; a nod to the past-- one that a lot of us think looks pretty cool. I think too many people get hung up on the idea that every move, every phrase has to be difficult. Sometimes, it's the simple things in life that are the best.
  14. Cool story, though it makes me feel old... :) My oldest child is 5 now. Haven't been able to take her to a show yet, though I wonder if we may indeed have another musician in the family. I found her standing on the couch the other day, two-hand conducting the soundtrack to Superman Returns. I asked her where she learned it--got the usual "I dunno." (We haven't watched any drum corps in a while, so I'm thinking she must have been watching the behind-the-scenes features of one of her animated movies...)
  15. Ah man, that sucks. I had no idea they were there--I drive by that stadium 2 or 3 times a week. Ugh. I need to pay better attention next time.
  16. We had a bit of a scare in 92--one of our snares came down with what was described as "non-specific" hepatitis. Which, translated, means they had no idea what virus caused it. Just that the person had a fever, swollen liver and all the fun that can involve. (I'll spare the bathroom details...) We went into lock-down mode: new cups for every trip to the drink spigots, wash your hands 28.5 times a day, and so on... Very grim for a few days but things relaxed a bit when no one else seemed to develop symptoms.
  17. Again, too bad they separated you like that (and drove off!) because it didn't really help. It has around a 2 week incubation period (many common viruses do)--by the time you show symptoms, you've already done all the spreading. The puss pockets [never thought I'd that on the forum!] are evidence that your body is finally turning back the viral horde. By the time you were laid up in the room of no return, you weren't very likely to spread it any more. (You, or others, had already done that...)
  18. They better not screw up, though. Might rip out his seat and throw it on the field. :P
  19. They segregated the poor guy? Bummer. And probably unnecessary--you typically spread the love, so to speak, before your body has a nasty outward reaction to a viral infection. (Drove me crazy that our daycare would send kids home, no matter what, with a flu-induced fever--even a very mild one-- "to prevent spreading." Too late. They did their spreading about a week prior...)
  20. *serious mode on* On the whole, it's not a bad idea (at least, the sentiment isn't) but I can't help but think it might have a surpressing effect on the forums. I'll admit, I've never been a slave to "the topic"-- I like it, sometimes, when threads take a left turn, so long as it doesn't go too far (nebulous distinction, I know...) Couldn't this also open the door for some of the more serious-minded mod's to squash light-hearted threads by simply tagging them with a single star? (And thus bring on the stricter monitoring) Granted, that might not always be a bad thing--some threads simply don't need the jokes and whatnot. But I'd hate to kill this entirely. *serious mode off* Are there going to be box criteria?
  21. One minor suggestion - rename to Gold Bond ratings.
  22. That must have been a fluke- it's usually pretty humid here in north central Texas. (63% today, near Denton)
