  1. Absolutely no change in placement first thru tenth place from two weeks ago in minneapolis. How exciting.
  2. And, just because you don't agree with me doesn't mean I'm not allowed to state my opinion. What is it with society today that it's so acceptable to personnally attack someone just because you don't agree with what they say? Nowhere did I compare it to what the Chinese did. I thought it was mediocore. As George said, whatever dude.
  3. An elite group of morons, for the most part. I'm with George. It went all downhill after "Danny Boy."
  4. And of course, "engagement" is easily defined and measured. Seems to me that no judge could tell if an audience is engaged but not entertained. You couldn't possibly know that. I think a judge could have a good idea if the audience is entertained.
  5. You speak as though you have a personal understanding of the proper interpretation of the words. Were you involved in the process of changing the sheets? Because, is it possible that when "engagement" was added, the INTENT was, indeed, to measure audience entertainment? Using your definition, if an audience member watches the show, they're engaged. They may be saying "WTF was that, that sucked!" but they're engaged, by your definition. I'm thinking, that may not be what the intention was. But I don't know because I wasn't involved in the process that came up with the revised sheets. Are you speaking from knowledge of the change, or are you postulating too?
  6. CROOOOWN WITH A LATE SURGE!!! It's gonna be a photo finish! thump thump thump thump thump thump
  7. There was this one show where it ended with some Roman guy getting run through with a spear.
  8. Hmmm what hasn't been listd: '89 BD, You Gotta Try '74 Troopers, Ghost Riders
  9. We sure have become sensitive on this forum. OP stated an opinion, so what? Is he not entitled to? What if 100 percent of all posts were drooling tributes to BD 2012, with everyone agreeing that BD will and should win this year and their show is the most innovative thing we've ever seen? After about 5 pages of that my head would hit the table as I dozed off in extreme boredom. The same goes if 100 percent of all posts were flaming diatribes that BD has sold their soul to the devil. I don't come here for the sugar and spice. I come here for the sugar and spice and snakes and snails. I'm not afraid of differing opinions. I live for them - I come here to read the different points of view. Why do we have to jump all over posters with whom we disagree? And don't give me the - it's not what he said....it's the way in which he said it that offends my delicate constitution. Toughen up, people
  10. Because, as everybody knows, girls have cooties. Duh.
  11. That may be the case with some vocal DCP posters. Or maybe they come over better on the web than they do live. But the underwhelming crowd response when viewed in-person makes me doubt whether "most fans have no problem" with BD.
  12. I'm glad drum corps competitions aren't manufacturing processes. I'm more glad we're seeing less slotting. Each show, each night, judge it as independently as you can.
  13. Well, then it's a good thing they're a private organization and can do that if they want to.
  14. Except that's not what the OP's question was. The question was, are Cavies members of the Boy Scouts? The answer is no. Can we be done now?
  15. For a specific example, I think this year, "you don't get it" is used in response to someone saying they don't like BD's show. This always seems so silly - it's drum corps, it's not hard to "get it." I personally think it would be easier to just respect differing opinions and realize you won't ever get universal agreement. Of course, then this website would be hella boring.
  16. There were 18 world class corps competing in Minneapolis. I wish there were 58. At 18, there's not much leaner it can get.
  17. Now, there's some irony. You dislike his post and his views about BD's offering this year, and it looks to me like you're discrediting it. How about this - you like BD's show this year, he doesn't. No amount of back and forth is gonna change that. Can you respect his opinion, and he yours? And just move on? Otherwise, I'm entertained by the back and forth. You do realize that there will be no "winner" in this exchange.
  18. I agree with you on this one. And, this year's no different - some are great, some are laughable. So, in that regard, things are much the same throughout the years.
  19. so say some judges. The people who paid with their money to attend the show saw it quite differently. But.... no one cares about that, right? In my opinion, Crown was head and shoulders better than BD
  20. Sarcasm noted. I was at the Minneapolis show Saturday, and I have to say I'm with Granny on this one - the emperor has no clothes. There is nothing to "get" with this BD show, except a whole lot of pretensiousness. In all the years I've been following the activity, I have never heard such silence at the end of a show as BD Saturday night. The silence was actually quite stunning. I wasn't expecting great applause - this is not my first rodeo - but the absense of any response at all was really interesting. There wasn't any booing, there wasn't any standing up and cheering (except for the staff and maybe a few here and there). Mostly it was....nothing. Maybe that's what they're going for. Anyway I don't buy the notion that Crown is so sloppy - they were amazing and I thought no one out there was close to them. The difficulty of their show is stunning, and their execution, playing while running .... just amazing. So, if the high falutin' judges deem BD to be the winner this year, okay.... whatever. It won't be the first time.
  21. Well, then, how about this: Their musical phrases are disjointed, which is nothing new for them recently, except this year, they attempt to justify it under the guise of some pretentious French dude voice over during their performance, telling me how I'm supposed to be impressed that it's all about nothing. There's a 2 minute spot near the end of the show that's pretty cool. They sure are talented, I wish their staff would deliver them a show worthy of their musical abilities. Is that better? If only marginally? It's no less one-sided than the NYT. Funny, often it's the Cadets who I think are trying too hard, with rabbits and tables and taxi cab doors and other doors and Martha Graham quotes and I Believe In Now and such. This year it's the opposite - I can't get enough of the Cadets, and I love their music, while BD leaves me unimpressed with the faux sophistication. In My Opinion, of course, yowza yowza.
