  1. This stadium project is pretty cool. Brings back some meories for me having matched in several of these. Can't wait to see more. Ypsilanti, Rice Univ., Lake Highlands TX, Alton IL, Michigan City, Port Huron MI, Malden MS, Horicon WI, Marion OH, South Pittsburgh TN (!!), Ogdensburg NY, the "old" Stillwater MN, Boston College, Bayonne NJ are all photos I'd like to see. Wow, I just found a box of drum corps stuff and it had iteneraries from 77-81. We had a show at Lambeau Field in 81. I don't remember.
  2. Mike, back in 1977, when I was a rookie in a small corps no that one here has ever heard of - with dreams of someday being in a big time corps - you were featured in the DCI Yearbook. Of course being 15 and impressionable and idolizing the Cavaliers like my son now idolizes NFL teams, I had pretty much memorized the yearbook. So you were my Tom Brady. Just thought you should know.
  3. Congrats Minnesota! Cam 2006 Madison Alumni Reunion Corps (mello) 1997-99 Minnesota Brass (mello) 1979-81 Madison Scouts (fr horn) 1976-78 Blue Knights, St. Paul, MN (fr horn)
  4. Blue Knights (St. Paul, MN) DCI Prelims 1978 Eau Claire, WI (1978)
  5. I bet many of us were in Denver. I was going thru breakfast line before a long day of rehearsal!
  6. If the question is really what corps did he start, then answer is Wave, He started a new corps after the first Florida corps he worked with imploded. He didnt start the Squires.
  7. Maybe Steve Stricker (Madison, WI) can win the PGA Championship today. I remember last year listening to the PGA in the car on XM on the way home from Indy. Had to pull off to a bar to watch the playoff. In '02 and '09 I attended both DCI and PGA (PGA was following week). I was lucky to see the best in the world for 2 weeks straight!
  8. Well, in my day, we didnt have to worry at all with the cavaliers (or cadets for that matter)!
  9. The corps will lose in the long run, because they won't get the extra contributions they would have got in addition to the ticket purchase, as most people will probably consider the unused ticket the contribution.
  10. Tough. It is part of the business they are in, so they need to figure it out.
  11. In '77 it rained briefly off and on during prelims. Started midway thru Blue Stars as a light drizzle and was at it's worst during their closer. But luckily the guard had umbrellas for their closer "Come In From The Rain"! Next corps was Cavaliers, who warmed up with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" just as the sun started to peek thru and yes, you guessed it.... All this while the announcement and fan reaction for the Bridgemen disqualification was occurring. It was my favorite bootleg recording that I had up to a few years ago when the cassette tape got mangled before I had a chance to digitize it.
  12. Yes, this is a youth activity, life learning experience, yada, yad, yada... I get that. And yes most of US are happy to support this worthy cause. But DCI is (or is masquerading as) big business. Glossy, in your face promos, marching music's major league, we're on ESPN, etc. If they want to really play that game, then the fact is they need to treat the customer right. I know a lot of people who are not DC nuts that are going to DCI Minnesota because they've read/seen ads that make this look big-time! They pay $40-60 for a ticket and they expect a product. DCI ought to set up an insurance fund for rainouts. It is a part of doing business. Account for it. I'm sure this type of insurance is available.

  14. I drove 1.5 hr to be there. Really enjoyed the show. I didn't care about scores in the least. In fact it ought to always be that way.
  15. Cuban Fire! Another great Kenton album I ony just acquired today. You gotta have this one. I didnt realize that BD's version (Los Suertos de los Tontos) was an exact replica, even down to the note for note solos.
  16. And going to 2-valves was controversial, around 1977!
  17. Stan Kenton's West Side Story I have 2000+ jazz CDs and can't believe I never had this one till now! Very drum corps fan friendly, incredible brass arrangements. Just had to share. http://www.amazon.com/Kentons-West-Side-St...8846&sr=1-1
