  1. That may have been the last year. In 88 they had the random draw for order--which I rather like, btw. The following year it was just a matter of the semi scores.
  2. It's easy to play loud when you don't march that much. Seriously, though, BD rocked.
  3. The really annoying part is that Steve and Dennis' commentary was longer than the corps' clip.OK, did they just have a 10 second clip for Spirit?
  4. Every time I realize just how much [insert corps currenly on screen]'s show has been butchered to fit a two hour time slot (closer to a one-hour time slot once you factor in all the filler).
  5. I've been watching DCI since 1980, so I guess I count as a "legacy fan". Disclaimer, though--I'm not nearly as familiar with the shows of the 2000s as I am with those of the 80s. But anyway, two off the top of my head: PR 2005 - Rhapsody was just FUN. BC 2000 - They had me from that opening drill move. Simple, yet mesmerizing
  6. I floated this in another thread, but I still like it: A Muse of Fire Music for Shakespeare Opener Much Ado About Nothing - P Doyle Ballad - some version of Romeo & Juliet drum feature - Battle of Agincourt - Doyle Closer-something from one of Verdi's operas
  7. Disclaimer--I have not seen BD04. That said, I'd go with PR06, with Spin Cycle a distant second--the drill is just too freaking FUN!
  8. Phantom Regiment A Muse of Fire: Music inspired by Shakespeare Overture from Much Ado About Nothing P Doyle some version or other of Romeo & Juliet Something from the Verdi operas
  9. I do. Keep in mind, back in 84 or 85, the Cadets had a pileup at a regional, and one of the members broke a leg. Besides, how would the delay help the corps? They're like racehorses chomping at the bit--the delay was more likely to hurt them than help them.
  10. Phantom adds 15 contras and opens with Thus Spake Zarathustra.
  11. I'm thinking more like mid 80s. They went to the baby blue tux uni in 81, and had that for a few years.
  12. Let's face it, PR playing classical music is SO 20th century.
  13. The 85 Suncoast show had several bars of "When You Wish Upon a Star" ... surely that's not the problem.
  14. That is SUCH a fun show--and yes, that closer kicks major league booty. I wore out a couple of cassette tapes with that show.
  15. I feel your pain. I lost my 1984 Garfield Cadets shirt when it got cut off of me in the emergency room. For a while I entertained the idea of sewing on a zipper, but the visual was just too silly. My 79 Spirit of Atlanta t-shirt and 80 27th Lancers Olympics baseball shirt pretty much fell to pieces.
  16. Assuming that you yourself are not directly responsible for the corps folding, I can't imagine why you shouldn't wear your corps jacket. God knows that if I had marched in a corps, I'd want the whole freaking world to know.
  17. When you think about it, the delta was really a stylized A for Atlanta, so it's not surprising that they're moving away from it. Kind of cool that they now sport a stylized S on the front of the new unis, though.
  18. I dunno, I suspect that the right woman could make that uni sing!
  19. If 1. We see the same fluctuations in placement through the end of the season, and 2. someone rises up and beats the semi-finals winner at Finals THEN I'll be willing to say that this has been the most competitive season ever.
  20. I just don't get the antipathy towards ballads. They offer a change of pace, and give the corps the opportunity to display a completely different set of musical chops. For the love of Hoppy, the main reason the 87 Cadets is one of my favorite Cadets show? The ballad, Make Out Garden Grow. Can a poorly developed ballad be boring? Sure. So can a poorly developed opener or closer. Would you really want to give up, say, Pegasus, from BD' 82 show? Or Fire of Eternal Glory, from PR93?
