  1. (my comments in blue)Requiem (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) - That would be a "Be afraid. Be very Afraid" kind of show. Hey, next year, they could use the extra members for a chorus . . . ^0^ Romeo and Juliet (Sergei Prokofiev) Symphony No. 6 (Sergei Prokofiev) Lieutenant Kije Suite (Sergei Prokofiev) Love for Three Oranges (Sergei Prokofiev) A LOT of good stuuf out there by Prokofiev. Requiem (Guiseppe Verdi) - SCV did a bit of it as an opener in 79, but they just scratched the surface. Cast your Fate to the Wind (Vince Guaraldi Trio) - Oh, yeah, this could be a showstopping low volume piece. Les Miserables (yes, again...would love to see the Cadets tackle it once more) - I liked that show, but always thought that it was never quite realized. I half-expected them to take another stab at it the following year. Has anyone ever done a Pink Floyd show?
  2. Some days I think this would be a good piece for Phantom, some days I listen to it and say, "Well, maybe, but it sure would cost a lot to keep the pit on crystal meth for every show . . ."
  3. BD got a solid financial situation, plus--as a result, they can field not one but TWO junior corps. Basically, they have a farm system that assures a steady stream not just of talented players, but talented players that are already trained in the Blue Devil way. The results are pretty obvious.
  4. 27th Lancers Their 80 and 81 shows were classics.
  5. And, more importantly, that you all post detailed reviews!!
  6. Tragedy struck when part of the Cavaliers' snare line got their contact lenses mixed up.
  7. Don't Let Depth Perception Disorder (DPD) Strike Your Snare Line . . .
  8. Sorry about the delay getting the poll up--technical difficulties, yada yada yada . . .
  9. That's the least of my problems, actually . . .What happened to my poll? Do you have to do flip a hidden switch or something to get a poll? ETA: Don't know what I did, but the poll's up in a different thread. Sorry for the initial mishap. Just think of it as an amp malfunction. ;)
  10. If he is not judging this year, than I can only conclude that he was purged for the heinous offense of scoring Phantom 1st in GE. I'm pretty sure that rule is in the DCI bylaws . . .
  11. Well, since we all know that the only way to win is to play lots of notes and march really really fast, I'd replace the Firebird with Flight of the Bumblebee. I haven't had a chance to see the show, but based on everything I've heard, On Air is one of the more challenging shows Phantom has done in a while. The biggest danger is, I think, Phantom's tendency to ramp things up at the very end of the season--at that point it may be more difficult to overcome the momentum built up by other corps. Also, they've not been competing regularly with the top corps--perhaps they need the head to head competition to kick things up to the next level. Oh, and if they can figure out how the make a guard member fly, that might not be a bad idea, either.
  12. The 1988 Show, the 89 show may be superior musically, but 88 was a better total package. The 89 show was junked up with too many visuals, such as all the large phantom masks framing the field, etc. The 88 visuals were much more elegant.
  13. You're not alone, my friend. I love the 2005 show. Certainly a departure for Regiment, but it's still classical music. It's not as if, say, the Blue Devils doing a show of Gregorian Chants.I wonder if the same people who say that Gershwin isn't "Regiment" were outraged when PR firs did Death Hunt back in '93. I mean, movie music? :o
  14. What other shows are in Alabama this year?
  15. One thing's for sure--anyone who wants to take that drum trophy out of Rockford had better pack a lunch. That line is unreal!!
  16. Hershey Park is a lot of fun, particularly for a family.
