  1. Next year, the Cadets present I, Robot.
  2. Went with 2000 for the strongest 1-2 punch. Came close to going w/ 87. As for the second part of the poll, I went with 89. If the poll had gone back to 1980, I might have gone with that.
  3. That's been something of a trend with Regiment--Every year, they add another flourish to the uni, and they start piling up--the red capes intro'd in the Spartacus shows, a splash of purple there, baldrics, etc. And at some point there's a purge, and you get back to a clean uni (Songs from the Winter Palace), and the process starts over again.
  4. What, the Cavies played music last season? :P :P
  5. 91 is a good show. I like 93 a little better, though. It starts a little slow, but once they hit Estancia, they just grab you by the nads and don't let go.
  6. Post some pictures and we'll decide for ourselves.
  7. That would be most disappointing. You'd think that shows from previous countdowns would not even be eligible. They'd have to manually matte each show, and that could take a while. You can achieve more or less the same effect using the Zoom button on your DVD player or TV. This could be fun. For each corps, get an instructor, a member who aged out that year, and maybe the DM, and record a group commentary track.
  8. Could you provide some examples of the "same-old same-old" that's bringing DCI down? Cavies 06? Phantom 03? Madison 99? There's a lot out there than can be done without bringing in electronics, a move which will only serve to push out corps with smaller bankrolls.
  9. Based on my reaction while watching the 05 and 06 classic countdown and 03 DVDs, I would say not. I was delighted to rediscover the 80 Bridgemen, I still maintain that 89 PR was robbed, I was stunned by the 2000 Cadets, and I stood in slack-jawed awe at Spin Cycle.
  10. Yep. The 05 Countdown has both 27th Lancers and Spirit of Atlanta from '80.
  11. 05, 06 Classic Countdown 2003 Finals I haven't watched all of them yet but just a couple of quick comments: Whoever remastered PR96 on the 05CC must have had an ear infection or something, because the percussion sounds like mush. the APDs sound better. This was the first time I had seen the 2000 Cadets--HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! What an amazing show!!!! I turned away for a moment to get something, and when I turned back the tenor drummers were spinning back and forth from drum to drom, without missing a single note. I get a headache just thinking about what it must have been like to practice that bit.
  12. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Two crates full of albums (including DCI championships from 80-87).
  13. That's right, I forgot about the timing gun. After the gun, no more ticks.
  14. Yep. Spirit of Atlanta had company fronts at the end of Let it Be Me in 80 and 81. If they had managed a clean company front in either year, there's a good chance they would have taken a championship or two. But back then, M&M was their achilles heel.
  15. Back in 81? 82?, the 27th Lancers in Danny Boy collapsed a formation into a single vertical line (on the 50 yard line), then rotated the line into a company front. An incredibly ballsy maneuver, particularly since the horns on either end were practically sprinting, and half the line was marching backwards. I honestly can't remember how clean the front was, but I do rmember that the audience was impressed that they'd even try something like that (remember, early 80s).
  16. Well, the one criterion I have is that the year has to have a solid PR show, which was why I was leaning towards '05. But 03 could work as well.
