  1. "Fair" has nothing to do with it. Phantom Regiment is a private organization; as such, they can determine what their artistic needs are, much in the same way that Madison and the Cavies are free to maintain their all-male tradition.
  2. The contra player would win with a G bugle, but not with a Bb.
  3. If we're talking moments, then 2005 Regiment deserves a mention. Some amazing keyboard work, and of course, the tap shoes. ;)
  4. Spirit of Atlanta 1980 -- The Devil Went Down to Georgia
  5. I dunno, but I hear they're gonna go retro and use G nachos.
  6. Holy crap, that was real? That was my first year watching finals on PBS. My back was out at the time and I was on serious pain medication plus valium, so I always assumed I was just hallucinating. ####.
  7. Please. 1980. Spirit of Atlanta. Georgia on my Mind.
  8. Both Rathbone and Power were trained fencers, Flynn wasn't. If you watch The Adventures of Robin Hood, it clear that the Sheriff could have taken Robin Hood out anytime he wanted...that darned script!
  9. I lean towards 08 Regiment, mainly be cause they played so well while suppressing a slave rebellion. ;)
  10. I'll miss Shaw's work, but hey--Juliet was one hell of a swan song, for the opening alone.
  11. I can't speak to watching the show, but it's a favorite to listen to.
  12. Phantom Regiment 1988 - Songs from Spring Training
  13. This would have been a good uniform for Constantly Risking Absurdity...
  14. I'll echo the sentiment that the techno-funk drums need to go, but everything else? Sweet mother of God, that was impressive. Absolutely love the low brass presence--it just reaches out and grabs you where you live. Sadly, the closest they're coming to Birmingham is Atlanta, and that just ain't happening.
  15. Don't worry about it. On finals night they'll put a blood squib behind the shield, and the entire corp will die with Juliet.
  16. Not exactly. Back then, part of the score was "tear-down" (the tick system) and part was build up (GE, mainly). Corps couldn't lose points after the gun went off--they could only earn GE.
  17. The Cadets would be destroyed if they had to use restrictor plates.
  18. I just got a Lumix FZ35, and I highly recommend it. Yes, it doesn't use AAs, but in my experience, DCs that use AAs tend to go through them quickly; at least our last camera did. Seriously, it would go through AAs in 20 minutes. With the Lumix, one battery was good for most of a day in DisneyWorld; when I got the camera (through amazon), I paid an additional $11 for an accessory kit. The kit included two batteries & a spare charger, so I was set on the battery front. We did a 5 day trip to Disneyworld at the first of the year, and the camera did very well, particularly given that I hadn't really had a chance to familiarize myself with all its features. It takes very good pics (see below; resized from 12 mp) and takes HD video as well. Basically, determine what you want to spend, and get a rough idea of what features you want. Then do a lot of research on the web--that's what led me to go with the Lumix.
  19. Plus 20 tubas, 20 pit players, and 24 flugelhorns, just to be different.
  20. I'm hearing that they're doing a tribute to Coca-Cola jingles, titled "The Pause that Refreshes".
  21. Similarly, I've always wanted Iron Chef to have Spam as the secret ingredient.
  22. But Soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Which explains why my head just burst into flames.
