  1. I've posted these in another thread, but perhaps this one is more appropriate. We've lost the following members since I aged out and I really think it's a kick in the head. I wasn't expecting this sort of thing until at least 2017. Frank Bent (Baritone) - 1998 Claire (Edwards) Berwick (Colour Guard) - 2023 Dennis Bishop (French Horn) – 2007 Dennis Brodeur (French Horn) - 2009 Bob Dion (Soprano) - 2020 Paul Dorries (French Horn) - 2009 Fay (Trombly) Demers (Colour Guard) – 2014 Peter Hokinson (Soprano) - Date unknown Audrey (Varney) Johnson (Colour Guard) – 2006 Paulette (Plante) Makowski - (Colour Guard) – 2012 Richard Makowski (Snare) – 2009 Douglas Middleton (Bass Baritone) - 1974 John Mills (Bass Baritone) – 1994 Brenda (Trombly) Ross (Soprano) – 2008 Linda (Edwards) Gaffey (Soprano) – 2019 Walter Lambert (Bass Baritone) - 2021

  3. Hi Goldpin

I noticed your post on former friends you marched with that are recently deceased. I share your sadness. I noticed you marched the Spartans from Nashua, N.H..... I was born 3/21/47, 2 days before you and marched in the I.C. Queensmen from Winchester- Woburn, Mafrom '56-68, and we competed against the Spartans. I also did military Drum Corps as well. I 've also lost fel...

  4. I've posted these in another thread, but perhaps this one is more appropriate. We've lost the following members since I aged out and I really think it's a kick in the head. I wasn't expecting this sort of thing to happen until at least 2017. Albert LaFlamme - Founder of the Spartans from Milford, NH (latterly from Nashua, NH) - 2015 Frank Bent - Baritone - 1998 Dennis Bishop -French Horn - 2007 Dennis Brodeur - French Horn - 2009 Paul Dorries - French Horn - 2009 Fay (Trombly) Demers - Colour Guard - 2014 Roger Duquette - Snare Drum - 2008 Gary Frye - Bass Drum - 2009 Linda (Edwards) (Foster) Gaffey - 2019 Peter Hokinson -Soprano - 1990(?) Audrey (Varney) Johnson -Colour Guard - 2006 Walter Lambert - Bass Baritone - 2021 Linda "Bunny" (Trombly) Martin - 2021 Paulette (Plante) Makowski - Colour Guard - 2012 Richard Makowski - Snare Drum - 2009 Douglas Middleton - Bass Baritone - 1974 John Mills - Bass Baritone - 1994 Sam Milne - Soprano - 2016 Donna (Condon) (Dibble) Philbrick - Soprano - 2015 Brenda (Trombly) Ross -Soprano - 2008 DorisAnn Middleton - Soprano - 2022 Gwen (Logan) Whitbeck - Colour Guard - 2023
  5. These people all marched with the Spartans (Milford/Nashua, NH) back in the '60s. Frank Bent (Bari) - 1998 Dennis Bishop (French Horn) - 2007 Dennis Brodeur (French Horn - 2009 Paul Dorries (French Horn) - 2008 Pete Hokinson (Soprano) - Date Unknown Doug Middleton (Bass Bari) - 1974 John Mills (Bass Bari) - Date unknown Brenda (Trombly) Ross (Soprano) also a founder member - 2008 Audrey (Varney) Johnson (Colour Guard) - 2006 Paulette (Plante) Makowski (Colour Guard) - 2012 It's a real kick in the head to find these people are gone. I wasn't expecting to see something like this for another 15-20 years. As you can see, the list keeps getting longer!
  6. Someone said it earlier, but it still bears repeating: ALL OF THEM!
  7. I still have mine but I did cut the name off backin the '60s - wish I hadn't done that now. However, I'll never part with it!
  8. Here's a couple of pictures I dug out when I was home recently. Goodfellow AFB Drum & Bugle Corps - 1970 Goodfellow Corps in a parade in San Angelo, TX - 1970
  9. Its in my sig. The only reason I didn't march in '66 and '67 was that I needed a summer job and the (expletive deleted), (expletive deleted), had me on the swing shift (15:00 - 01:00) so I couldn't make the practices.
  10. Why do you need more than one valve and a rotor?
  11. I was lucky enough to see the USAF corps in '63. On a scale of 1-10 they were more like a 20. They were the first corps I ever saw doing suicide turns (head choppers).
  12. Aged out in 1968. Marched five years with the Spartans. Don't think many people switched corps in those days unless they moved house. Sad to see that most of the corps I competed against have folded. <**> <**> <**>
  13. I don't think the draft had any effect of corps membership. I attended college from 1965 to 1969 and my 2S (student deferrment) was only valid while I was attending classes. My status reverted to 1A when summer vacation started. I was walking around with a 1A classification from May - Dec 68 (college started in Sep and I just couldn't be bothered to apply for the deferrment untl Dec). I'm surprised I wasn't drafted. The only difference is that I'd have ended up wearing a green uniform rather than a blue one.
