  1. I don't know if this is my absolute toughest, but this really sucked, and it was probably my first really tough corps experience. In '97 with the Golden Lancers, we were on our way to the Citrus Bowl to take some of our members into the stadium to participate in the DCI All Star Corps (including myself) opening ceremony dealy before finals I think, and everyone was obviously going to watch finals too. On the way, the bus breaks down. To make things worse, we had to choose ONE kid that was selected for the All Star Corps to go ahead of us in a van with a staff member, and the rest of us stayed with the bus. We had to be there for at least a few hours, just cooking on the side of the road. The air conditioning was busted, so it got to the point where it was just as hot on the bus as it was off the bus. Not to mention, we were going to eat at the stadium, so there was no kitchen truck with us, and everyone was starving and sweating buckets in the hot Florida sun. We also noticed that our bus had chosen to break down right by a swamp, and we were all convinced that someone was going to say, "How could this possibly get any worse?" and then we were going to get attacked by gators :P Luckily, we were spared. Finally, it was the cavalry! I guess our director made some calls and we got picked up by some super sweet air conditioned coach and we made it to Finals!!! Yes, we made it just in time to see the Cadets come off the field. Why it took so long, I'll never know, but that was quite a memorable end to my rookie season. <**>
  2. Awww, but I used to LOVE to get up while everyone else was still sleeping! :P
  3. Well, I just so happen to be a Music Education/Jazz Studies double major on trumpet at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. I for one would agree with what everyone is saying about overall music performance schools, and that BGSU is up there, but certainly not the best in Ohio. Unless, of course, you play the saxophone, because Dr. Sampen is one of the best in the country, no doubt! BGSU does have an outstanding MuEd program, as well as a phenomenal jazz program. As a member of the trumpet studio, I've become pretty close to my teacher, Mr. Charles Saenz, and he is amazing! He's equally adept at both classical and jazz. He won the '94 International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition, he's played with numerous symphonies, brass quintets, and jazz ensembles, and is currently playing with the Toledo Jazz Orchestra. He also directs BGSU's Trumpet Ensemble. If your son is only a junior, you can always have him come to one of our junior auditions. Here's the website if you want to check it out http://www.bgsu.edu/ Hope I helped. Let me know if you or your son want to know anything else about BGSU, the CMA, or the trumpet studio.
  4. Oooooh...that one hit pretty close to home :P
  5. Cookie salad!!!! :) Though I must admit, I was a pretty big fan of the time we had the taco bar.
  6. ...and by audience, you mean you and your friend.
  7. :P Man, I totally agree with that. It happens to me daily! How about hearing the source material for a corps show and almost always saying, "Actually, I like the way (corps x) played that better." It's especially fun when you're a music major, and your non-corps friends in orchestra get furious when you say that you like Phantom's version of something better than theirs b**bs
  8. LMAO!!! :P Nice one! And I agree with with my boy Drew, WAY TO GO BONES!!!!
  9. Yeah, I'm with dciguy and cough...Cavies show this year seems even more "gimmicky" then before. Not a fan. I miss shows like '92 and '95. However, they'll win, just because they're the Cavaliers. Vanguard has always been one of my favorite corps, and though I haven't seen them yet, their music is amazing. Bluecoats...saw them in Toledo, and WOW, that is one hell of a show. Honestly, they should've beaten Cavies. In short, if Cavies don't win, I'll be happy. Sorry RJ :)
  10. Don't want to look...but...can't look away...
  11. WOW. And I thought last year was competitive.
