  1. I would highly recommend if you have any VHS tapes, film or DVDs that you would like to hold onto, to keep both a digital and a physical copy. Recently I have been working on digitizing my family's VHS and MiniDV tapes over the years. After capturing the video from it's existing medium, I am digitizing and providing them with a digital copy (on a flash drive), DVD copies, as well as access to my media server in my house which has copies of them, where they can also stream the videos at any time. That way there are a few copies in existing and in multiple formats. Anyways, be sure that you have copies in multiple formats and if possible, in multiple locations. It's not hard to do, just buy a USB or an external hard drive (preferably SSD) and give a second one to a friend or family member and buy a $30 external DVD drive for your computer and burn a few DVD-Rs with the footage on there. If anyone needs help on how to get things digitized, send me a DM and I'll help out!
  2. In 2072, brass will be completely eliminated, replaced by a fleet of bassoons, piccolo flutes and electrified saxophones. You'll see them on the field but no one is actually playing (they are intensely twerking, p*ssy poppin' and other historical dance moves) and if they were playing, it wouldn't matter because you wouldn't hear them due to the constant bass drops (which replaced all percussion 40 years before), the audience members will be mic'd and encouraged to wear spandex. Corps fees will be 680,000Â¥. It will be glorious.
  3. First post in a long long time. I don't know if this information is available but I would love to look at the attendance per show and see overall attendance in 2022 versus say 2002, additionally what current numbers for downloads, streams, Youtube uploads, etc. and crunch some of those numbers. Like many, after my "era" of drum corps was over, I have had a much harder time keeping up with it and have been almost completely disconnected from the activity for the last decade but recently got back involved and looking to volunteer after getting to see a rehearsal day at a corps my former marching buddy is working with. I want to be wrong about the direction of the activity and overcome my dislike of some of the changes and not be the angry "drum corps boomer" on Facebook. My biggest concern years ago (and still now) is that DCI is losing its identity during a time where the activity could easily not be around in 5-10 years. I know DCI isn't the end all be all of drum corps but they are by far the largest organization, at least in the US. On the more positive side, while I personally have zero interest in what the top 6 corps are doing, the often viewed "mid tier" World Class corps seem to be more competitive than ever and more interesting than it's ever been. Open Class seems to be doing healthy on a corps to corps basis (despite the impact COVID had) and are built on a better, granted imperfect, system than Division II/III was. Seeing some hard figures on attendance figures and digital reach would be awesome to know. Maybe it's the nature of the activity but after being a boring adult for a while, if DCI isn't making that data a priority then someone should be. I'm sure someone is but it has to be a huge focus in 2022 and beyond.
  4. Memphis Sound got members from everywhere. For instance, in 06 in the baritone section we had people from one from North Carolina, one from South Carolina, one from Memphis Tenn, two from Mississippi, two from the Nashville area, two from East Tenn, one from Arkansas. It was all over the place. "Mempho saw the writing on the walls when Music City came to town." Really? The corps that has yet to even perform one show scared away an established drum corps? Considering the both years I marched, members came from everywhere... including all of the state of Tennessee. The next Jersey Surf? How about that create their own identity instead? Also how is losing a drum corps to another area a good thing? In that line of thinking it would be better for Santa Clara Vanguard to move away from California since Blue Devils are there. Competition is not always a bad thing.
  5. How is the move stupid? A drum corps was not working in Memphis. I hate to see my corps go too but I can't sit back complain because it's changing, when I did nothing to help it. Drum corps moves/name change > No more organization at all. In case you didn't notice the summer you marched, staff are just as much apart of your summer as the members you march with. No one is questioning how good the staff was. Staff shapes the members experiences in alot of ways. When the staff I loved left, I didn't return. It's not because I hated the organization or the people now in charge, I was just ready to move on. Winning does not validate your summer. I had two great seasons. The success Memphis had those two years cannot be measured in scores. I'm sorry to hear you thought our music was "bull" but I certainly enjoyed it. From my experience, Memphis got a fair share from Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana as well. Besides, if you're going to march a drum corps, you'll march it no matter the location (within reason ) I think you should step back and look at this from the big picture, because the attitude you've taken is the same attitude the "vets" from the earlier years had. (also like pinkies said, most of this dirty laundry needs to be aired out away from public discussion)
  6. I enjoyed my summer on Dynasty. I don't understand quite all the hate.
  7. I hate to see this... however... If there is a corps I trust to do it tastefully it would be the Madison Scouts and Phantom Regiment.
  8. What I'd like from Scouts 09 - White pants, lose the tie (though I kinda liked it )
  9. http://www.wwbw.com/ is pretty good. Gloves can be tricky, if your a low brass, baseball gloves (not mitts lol) work well for rehearsals. Cotton gloves I cannot remember where right off hand.
  10. I bought some swim trunks while on tour. Cut the linning out, those shorts are great. Get up in the morning, spray your shorts down, let them dry during the day, good for the next. :)
  11. Madison Scouts - While not perfect, I liked it. Initially I thought it was ugly, but it grew on me. Besides, after the 07 uniforms, what wouldn't be a step up? I liked the FJM designs the best, but thats me. Blue Devils - Loved the uniform change up. However, I would REALLY hate it if they kept this uniform for more than one year. Phantom Regiment - Very sharp. But like Blue Devils, this works for this show and probably not for another. Santa Clara - Sorry... did not like. Wasn't horrible, just didn't like it to much. Blue Stars - Always thought the helmet was ugly, but you don't know what you got till its gone. Maybe the shakos will take some time to grow on me. Blue Knights - Much improvment. Looked get from a distance in my opinion. Crossmen - I liked the change very much. It was a nice refresher.
  12. 2007 - Great hornline and book 2005 - Loved the direction they took that year. Very un-phantom, yet still classic 2004 - Alot like 05 in the reasons I liked it 2000 - Very very interesting music, loved it. 2003 - So much emotion and such a great show 2008 - Yep, most put this at the top, but it just didn't do it for me 2001, 2002 - haven't seen
