  1. Only 3 of the listed DCA corps' are returning. Atlanta CV, Alliance and Carolina Gold. Sun Devils and Shenandoah Sound are inactive Solaris and Southern Knights are NOT a DCA corps at this time, They will be SoundSport/Mini Corps at this time
  2. Starting in 2014, The FRONT ENSEMBLES can be miked...only
  3. Starting in 2014, The FRONT ENSEMBLES can be miked...only
  4. Keith , I believe most if not ALL the Corps in attendance feel the same. Even a few hurricanes (2004) haven't stopped the South Corps' from getting on that field! This is DRUM CORPS..not marching band !! :) Dan, I fly in around noon tomorrow, meeting a former Hurricane I marched with for lunch who lives just outside Douglasville, then heading to the site....see you then,
  5. Tammi Stollberg, Show Chairmen has informed me and all participating Corps' that the show is rain or shine. The stadium field is Astro type turf.... not dirt/grass for you to lose members in(Allentown 87) Only thing that will stop the show is Lightning/// We have all performed in the rain...sometimes it was light...sometimes not!!! This is also the DCA-South Championships .... Looking forward to seeing ALL the participating Corps Saturday as they look for that final number going to Annapolis.. and a packed stadium!
  6. Due to excessive rains that have hit the area over the week, the field wasn't getting time to drain. One side was not draining properly. Shenandoah Sound staff and DCA were hoping that the show could still go, and maybe a few days of sun would help, but after talking with the Athletic director and others at the facility, it was decided to do a standstill only. this was also for the safety of the performers as well as not destroying the field!
  7. Actually Dave Hobart did the Evaluation!! I sat on the curb and watched!! lol Congrats Sun Devils, welcome back to DCA and DCA-South
  8. Steve You are most welcome.! We are excited in having an "out of region" Corps attend this great show hosted by Atlanta CV Have a safe trip down and we will see you when you arrive in Beautiful Douglasville...
  9. You should contact Dave Hobart on this or Kimberly Symonds who is the Marketing Director.
  10. Jim, I Didn't think you were. I was just answering why only certain captions were announced. ! However I will say that during awards when Fusion was announced with those 3 caption wins, I thought an upset was in the cards.... ! Not a Problem .. I agree with you on Gold.. if they can get the brass line up to the percussion and guard levels they will be dangerous! Yes Fusion is Open this year and I think it was the right move for them. and the change in style and overall programming as well as probably the strongest percussion section they have had in quite a few years will move CV up the Finalist ladder! Shenandoah can be a strong A Class corps once they fill out and the members get comfortable with the show. Their show is different than in past years and adjusting to a new design team, but I know they will make it work... Also, to answer another question from someone.... I do remember a time when a Corps was announced as winning only "one" caption (but winning a few subcaptions) and won the DCA Championships!
  11. FYI ...The caption announcements that were read are built into the tabulation program and those are the captions that it spits out... Fran did not take the break down and decifer it! on another note: Hats off to Shenandoah Sound, Sean, Donna and Russ for again putting on a first class DCA/DCASouth contest. Great facility, lots of rehearsal space, AC in the gym, and lots of corn! Thank you to all the Corps' for the great performances, in Heat Wave type weather. Looking forward to August when these shows are roaring towards the finish line.!
  12. On behalf of myself and the DCA-South Corps, my sincerest condelences to Peggy and the the Pronti family on their loss. Dick, even when being ill over the last few years, was still out representing I&E. He was a big supporter of the DCA-South Region and our corps', having been Chief Judge at a few of our shows, and has shown up at Corps rehearsals when in the area, giving support, especially to those that were just starting or struggling to stay afloat. I have had my good and bad with Dick, as happens in this Environment, but even after we have had some strong opinionated discussions through the years,he would not hold grudges. Discussion, make his point .. agree or disagree with yours, then move on and buy you a drink!! Thats was Dick Rest in Peace my friend.!
  13. Looking forward to reading and hearing great things from the Corps in the coming year !

  16. Bill We look forward to having the Rocketeers at the last DCA-South Show of the 2011 season in Douglasville,Ga Sponsored by the Atlanta Corps Vets And hope to see you (even with that hack!) at future DCA-South shows!
  17. To answer two questions that have come up: Georgia shows on different weekend... #1 is the 2nd show was tried before on Sunday afternoon.. anyone ever been in Atlanta at 3pm on a field in August?? Even when moving the show later in the day it was still brutally hot! #2. by moving it later , it caused problems for corps to travel home...ie: Texas, Va.etc So it was felt by the sponsors that different weekends would be better..So far it has worked out for both sponsoring corps' as they have been able to get addtional help from the school band programs. #3. You are correct that one show gained more audience than the 2nd and did not generate enough revenue to support it. Second Florida Sunday show cancelled. Location had nothing to do with it. TBT tried to get into the Jax area, but overnight housing was an issue and Belleview wasn't.So that is why it was in the Ocala area. But the real factor was a 3 Corps show. With Alliance and CV backing out of the shows, the Sunday show was not a viable sell. Saturday has additional exhibition units to fill the plate and make for an enjoyable evening of entertainment. Sunday would not have had the additional units! Hope that answers the questions raised. here. We look forward to a great DCA South and DCA season.
  18. This is great news and should be beneficial to both organizations... Good job Gil and Dan and all those involved in getting this worked out. Should be an exciting future for Drum Corps in general!
  19. Bill, Knowing how hard it is to start a corps in the South.. I wish you the best in your endeavors. Feel free to contact me at any time!!
