  1. I think if people want narration then narrator has to sound like a "good" narrator and not some person saying memorized lines. When you amp voices, it has to be done in a tasteful manner I think. Here are some moments that I thought "amped voice" sounded fine. - Cadets 06; the Twilight Zone Introduction ( I thought the person had a far more pleasant voice as a narrator than the pit member in 05 ) - Bluecoats 05; the drumspeak ( The pit using a different type of "instrument" to add color to their music seemed appropriate ) - Bluecoats 06; the arrest moment ( I thought timing was appropriate and sounded good )
  2. If anything isn't fair, it's the amount of exposure the DIV 2/3 gets. Two broadcasts and not even a mention of the smaller divisions...
  3. I'd say leave as is, but could someone tell me if amped voices get judged in any sort of way? I think if it's going to be used, it needs to be judged.
  4. Felt like this would be the appropriate thread to ask this question. Sorry if it goes away from what you guys were discussing. But... Do you guys think that the broadcast should give DIV II/III some coverage? I typically enjoy the broadcast personally, but it's always been something that always bothered me. I may be biased, but I mean come on. As far as I'm concerned I think Drum Corps International is better represented in the Div II/III what with Dutch Boy and Yokohama Scouts. But I digress. I think maybe they can cut some coverage of the individual stories and at least state the existence of the smaller divisions. Your thoughts?
  5. Well I can't really say too much since I haven't even marched a season yet, but from camps and auditions it definitely helped me be not only a better musician but as a person too funny enough. Even though I got cut from some audition the whole experience definitely made me more social and less shy around people, and I'm still going to be marching this year anyways. Drum corps also gave me a real goal in life. Besides the fact that I just want to get into drum corps I realized that I really want to teach music as a career. Course I'm still 15 so nothing is really certain but it beats just making through high school because people want you to.
  6. Well I was just putting that there cause that's how I know them by. It's what I first heard them be called as.
  7. I would love to see more foreign corps come to compete in DCI. I mean it is Drum Corps International. It would be great seeing more corps over in Europe and Asia competing with American corps here wouldn't you guys agree?
  8. I realized I've neglected Blue Stars by mistake since they were in Div 2 last year . Though you guys are doing so already you can put down the ones that i may have forgotten. Go PC!
  9. What if there was an indoor brass? I guess something like Blast! but competitive? I think some high schools are doing that.
  10. I could be totally wrong since I only heard this from a not so close friend who graduated last year. But he told me that he met a tenor player who is/was in Spirit, sorry I don't know what year or the person's name, who could only see through peripheral vision since his forward vision is blind. I'm not totally sure if it's called forward vision but I hope you guys undersand what I mean when I say he could only see through peripheral vision. Again this could be absolutely bogus and it would help a lot if someone could clarify if there is any truth in this.
  11. This should be interesting. Who would you want to see in the top 5 that were not in finals last year. That means just Colts, Crossmen, Capital Regiment, Southwind, Mandarins, Seattle Cascades, Pacific Crest, Esperanza, Magic, Troopers, Pioneer, and Kiwanis Kavaliers. Name your top 5 from most to less. Here's mine: 1. Pacific Crest 2. Crossmen 3. Southwind 4. Troopers 5. Colts Course I know we all want to see everyone in the top 5 :P. It's just not possible unless there's a 3 way tie in each placing or something.
  12. When I first heard about drum corps (which was about a year ago as a freshman in high school) My first impression was that it was a better and much more "intense" version of marching band. That being said after a while I also saw that it has it's own differences to really be a different activity. To me drum corps is everything I wanted marching band to be and more. Would adding woodwind/strings change my view on the activity? Of course, I would be extremely surprised if anyone didn't think so. It would definitely seem much more like a marching band than a drum corps. Is that a bad thing? Maybe, maybe not. All I know is that I like where the activity is at the moment. I currently have no problems with amplifications (course I never been to a live show) or vocals (Scatting in BD 03, drumspeak in Cadets and Bluecoats 05, and SW's style of singing is fine by me.) what gets me though is narration and singing with lyrics (BD and Cascades 05, Crown 04 a big NO with me) and even worse is having that amplified. Will I still march? Probably yes. A lot of the time kids want to join drum corps because people in their marching band sometimes don't really take it seriously. At least that's how it was with me. This may not be true for all but as I see it a lot of the kids that do drum corps don't come from the really good marching bands, instead they come from the bands that aren't "intense" enough. So even though drum corps may seem more like a marching band there is still the case that the kids in it want to be in it. Note: When I say intense I mean better and harder if you guys didn't know.
  13. Hey cmon let's not argue about this, obviously people will have their opinions on solos and obviously being musicians there are times when we have an off day in playing. Also let's not think bad of a corps because of one person. There will always be a person who makes a stupid decision and yes they don't represent their corps that well when they do but that doesn't mean that the corps is bad.
  14. Yeah just remember the kid's name. We just might see a solo sometime in the next 10 years :)
