  1. Have 7 and will split up and sell separate. Will sell for $10 off face. Section 116, Row 31. Leaving for vacation early and can't go. Call Chris 404 723 4418
  2. Love to actually walk away with my toe tapping and saying "now THAT is jazz". Bluecoats are more BD than BD now adays.
  3. I'm flashing back to the mid 80's when Spirit of Atlanta was winning color guard and finishing middle of the pack. I do wish those days would return when a one caption could make or break a corp. Bridgemen's drumline being top 3 for many years comes to mind.......I think 27th Lancers drum line was winning, or top 3, while the corp was bottom top 12, I think.
  4. I have to admit, I thought no one should/could touch 1987 Cadets.....I was wrong. Utter beauty and classic drum corps. Bravo! Truly one of, if not the, most memorable moment of 2009 for me is the entire SCV show.
  5. Let me correct you.....I purposely said that I DID NOT participate in the boo'ing for exactly the reason you mentioned....the kids. No one booed until the score was announced. Everyone around me, and my friends, were not happy at all that the 2nd-5th place corps did not overtake BD, but we did not boo. To put them at .10 away from the highest score in DCI history is just not right. Mind you, this is opinion, but one shared with many. I will summarize with one thought....DCI is a youth activity that has to be supported with a fan base. Economic fact. SCV brought me to tears with the beauty. Cavies, loved the guard and visual. Cadets, loved the AMAZING visual and exciting, exciting, show.... Crown, loved the guard, brass and pure creativity of the show. BD....myself and all my friends could only say "Boring and easy as hell in comparison, but they are clean." Back to my economic statement....I would hold up almost ALL champion shows since about 1984 to a novice viewer and say "this is exciting and you should go spend a ton of money to see a show for THIS" to many people. I cannot do that with this year's champion, in my opinion, and I have been watching/marching/teaching since 1984. Spartucus made my parents come back to a show for the first time since 1990 when I last marched. Point made. Winning is important in this world......but those who create magic are remembered for a long time. There was much magic this year, for many reasons, except the champion. Congrats to the members of BD. I'm proud of them, and their achievements, but just hope they are not replicated in design for other corps. Side note, in Atlanta I brought 8 novice viewers and their favorites in no order were: Crown Cadets Cavies Blue Stars Bluecoats Just my 2 cents. We must reach the audience and teach kids, and not focus on a ring/placement as the end all to be all of this activity.
  6. 100% agree with your review and your take on placements. Overall, I dont know what message the judging community is sending but it is not one that I want the 2nd place and below corps to listen to........really, really dont. And your comment about BD's color guard being great. Yes, they are clean. But being surrounded by my friends who marched and taught color guard for many years in DCI and WGI, including myself, their demand was similarly low compared to the other top corps. I was left as I was with the corp.....just wanting more....... And before someone else "flames on" about all the BD comments from the peanut gallery at DCP, I would ask when else in history have you heard these arguments when BD won. Some people may not have particularly cared for them, but always respected what they were doing. This year is different and was evidence by the booing at the score, which I did participate in BTW. I really HOPE that BD comes out next year and rips our faces off and tears down the house like these used to. Really do. I also hope that all other corps stays true to this years programming......so great all the way down the line. Congrats to everyone!
  7. And, that brings me to Blue Devils. As I said earlier in another review, they have the other polarizing show to me in DCI this year, along with SCV. You either love the ‘innovation’ and creativity in their visual design, or you find it to be clutter and lacking in the kind of drill and equipment work demand you would like to see for 11 minutes in a World Champion drum corps show. Count me in the latter grouping. I really feel like this show is just about maxed out – as their score being stuck in the 95 range would also indicate. Certainly there is a little lift to be had as they clean their new ending, which is the only place where they aren’t spit and polish clean – but where else can they climb – I’m really not sure. It IS incredible how clean this corps is, and as usual, how well these kids perform. I really enjoy the opening and closing pieces of the show musically, as well. The middle just falls completely flat for me, though, both musically and visually. This feels like 2007 or 2003 all over again – will it be another season where another show with more demand or heart catches up with BD, or at least gets close enough with cleanliness that they get caught – like 2006 or 2008 – or will it be a season where they just simply outperform the snot out of everyone else – like 2007 or 2003? So far, there is a ton of work to do if someone else wants to catch them, though I think SCV, Crown and Cadets all have the programs to do it if they can execute next week. Well, that’s it for now. I realize this became terribly long – so thank you for anyone who stuck with it for the whole read. I can’t wait for my favorite weekend of the year next weekend in Indy. See many of you there. Harvey Thank you for a great review...you hit the nail on the head for me with every review. Especially about BD.
  8. Is it based on the results of the shows tonight and last night in TN? thanks
  9. Does anyone know when the performance order is going to be released with performance times? thanks
  10. When are they going to post the order of performance and where? Thanks!
  11. I know that Crown has been a big topic on DCP in the past few weeks..... I know that there has been some pointing of fingers at their supporters as being "over the top" right now. Let me first say: CONGRATS to the entire CC team, students and parents! Secondly, there are MANY "over the top" supporters that I have run across in my 20 years of watching DCI. Many! And many MUCH more cocky, including some marching members. I personally am impressed as HECK that they were not in Finals in 2002 (let we forget!) and before that were always sitting in the lower tier for many years, in finals. One HECK of a run in the past few years of growth and determination, great teaching, great students and great programming! To be commended on all fronts! That being said, it's a LONG season and it's much harder to the be the one gunning for the leaders, than the one being gunned FOR! I personally would love to see it be a 7 way fight for the title. Everyone wins when we have no clear cut winner. Of course, I will say that I hope HNC pulls it out and win it all, cause I support the Maroon Team and I want them to take it all!! Go HOLY NAME and HUGE congrats to Crown!! Keep on pushing!!!
