  1. When Steve announced the BAC score was ready, the screen showed Blue Stars with their logo and a score of 88.1. It was up for several seconds and even the guys in the booth stumbled along with their comments.
  2. Too bad you and Craiga went to Allentown instead of attending the Crusaders contest in Lawrence. Big Bird was anxious to greet both of you.
  3. That was not a shot of venom towards anyone. 7576 acknowledged that a compliment was made. Tom is and has been a very good director, but any non marching members age is irrelevant to them doing a good job in their corps involvement. It might not be PC enough for some, but again, I believe talented members taught by talented instructors are more important then the greatest director. Please don't tell us you all think otherwise.
  4. Great to see younger men/women becoming directors, but age has nothing to do with being a good director. Quality and talented instructors/marching members are more important to me.
  5. Some interesting thoughts by all. If you haven't read Sound Machine recently, please read the comments by CFIBlood in the following thread, especially his thoughts (early in page 4) after watching the BD. Have always found his input very good. http://www.soundmachine.org/dci/forum/view...p;sk=t&sd=a

  7. First time last night seeing any corps and enjoyed the top three very much. Big Bird enjoyed the ride up and back to Lawrence. Had to laugh when the final caption sheets were being passed around before the DM's were called out and scores announced. BAC scored 5 points less last year at their contest and their high for the season was, I believe, Semis with an 88. Too me, they look/sound like they can easily reach 91 with 92 an outside shot. Just have to avoid the recent roller coaster ride in the scoring department. Hopefully the instructors and section leaders will get the corps to keep the pedal to the floor these last five contests. You know the corps above them will be.
  8. The key portion of any corps routine is the music. Very few fans would go to a contest to watch 11 minutes of just the percussion section, color guard, or the whole corps competing without the brass section playing. For years now, most CD's are nothing without the ability to watch the drill. Stop these snipets of brass music and play the majority of a song and you'll make fans happy and DCI's cash cow increases with more CD sales.
  9. Worked for me three years ago and it only cost me a drink for the kid! I'd check with the evening manager in advance and find out how many have shown up in previous years. If it's crowded, get there early (sorry boss, I don't feel so good) and be close to the front of the line so you can sit up high if many are also there early. If it's cool out carry a light jacket with tight sleeves so you can bring in a couple of beers. If hot out, baggy pants with deep pockets. Don't hesitate to ask people to quiet down if the're giving a running commentary during a corps performance. Enjoy.
  10. Hey Blue Devils, you have to shut down one of your fringe groups, sorry kids, and send the extra 100 thousand to The............ D&B Corps.
  11. And how would you accomplish this without getting the government involved? Have a massive audition by instrument and then have all directors hold a draft? So much for freedom of choice. You'd end up watering down too many corps.
  12. Animation makes it close for rain. May have to mouse over to Erie, PA. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/weather/16...e%3DInteractive
  13. To give another perspective on a BD thread, please read the following. http://www.soundmachine.org/dci/forum/view...?f=2&t=8832 Beginning near the end of page one and into page two CFI BLOOD (who has always impressed me with his responses on many subjects) ,RYSA4, and LAMystreaux, present some debate about BD.
  14. Bull feces! Then please do not allow children under your control to watch TV, go to the movies, and by God, keep them away from where young females are in bathing suits. Oh yeah! Nice surge Scouts.
  15. So, you want more towns to pass out condoms to grade school children?
  16. Both corps did well in the Challenge, but looks like Boston wins $16,558 to $16,489. Reads to me as a win for both corps.
  17. Hopefully many of you already know about this site. I only learned of it a couple of months ago. http://allbrassradio.com/ Occasionally they will play a piece by the Blue Devils or Santa Clara. When Jim responded to my donation, I e-mailed him back about what type of CD's he would accept. He trys to stay away from professional bands, but many of these amateur bands are d##n good. So if you have CD's that are made up of individual music by various corps, please make copies and send them to: Dr. Jim Fox 5677 Spring Corner Rd. Newburgh, Indiana 47630 USA I've started to copy the Christmas music that was put out back in the early 90's I believe. SCV and BD have made CD's for years and there must be many HS and college band music out there in your personal collections. If you can, please add a check. Thanks.
  18. From your keyboard to the corps execution and judges sheets. This would be a fantastic move since last night and could be done.
  19. Maybe from the mid 70's 'til now Brasso, but not throughout the 70 year history. At many contests, the instructors had the "sheets" and would walk among the corps prior to marching off the field during retreat. If the BAC drumline felt they got a bad score, as the snares walked by the judges, several pares of sticks were tossed at the feet of the drum judge(s). If the corps/hornline felt they should have scored higher, many pairs of white gloves were tossed at the judges. One of many reason why the "A" of BAC began. Be carefull Brasso, if Craiga feels my 1.25 posts/month are a lot, we can only imagine what comments he will be making shorty (he is fair and consistent I beilieve) about your 169 posts/month.
  20. Both the judges and instructors/marching corps members control how a corps is scored. Instructors write/instruct, members practice/execute, and judges judge. Over an 11 day stretch all corps are striving to improve. I only mentioned BAC and GM because they both competed last night and I noticed how BAC was still scoring in the 85's and GM made a big jump over the same time period. Heck, I imagine the BD were not happy to be at 92 for four consecutive contests. Like all of us, I have no idea how any corps goes up and others do not. Some corps have just added changes, whether there were a few or many, and others made them earlier, so they're executing those changes better.
  21. That was a track running shirt referred to as a signet that I wore under my mesh jacket at Quincy. Just came from track practice. Hope you take your own health/appearance a little more seriously.
  22. Since thirdcoast wanted to know what beer tastes good after beating SCV and PR, which I wished would happen, I listed the score difference between SCV and BAC. All corps are busting their butts 12 hours a day when off and nowhere was time at a beach mentioned. But, the Glassmen with their 3 days off increased thier scoring by 6 points and BAC is still in the 85's with 6 days off. I'm sorry that the results/facts get you upset. After approximately 56 months I have 70 posts or 1.25/month. After approximately 78 months , you have 840 posts Craiga or 10.77/month. Please don't be a hypocrite. We both want the Saders to succeed, but I've never liked Kool Aid and do not wear rose colored glasses.
  23. Still over 3 points behind SCV. Now, they have the G-Men to also worry about. Since July 19th, BAC has competed 5 times with 6 days off and stayed in the 85's, similar to their 5 results (I believe) in the 81's earlier this month. The Glassmen have competed 8 times with 3 days off and gone up 6 points. Time for BAC to find a couple more gears if they want to hang on to 8th place. With only 7 more contests before Indy, tonight would be a great time to begin a push. Let's hope they are successful.
  24. May your wishes come true. Any cold beer will taste great, otherwise, it's back to Kool Aid.
