Multiple Corps Auditions “Urban Legend”?
jpaul replied to JimF-LowBari's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Audition/camp season is tricky. There are always contracted kids who drop out for various reasons. (Sometimes because they got a contract somewhere else.) You never know how many. You don’t want to cut kids loose too soon and end up short. I agree, there are corps that take advantage of the situation, but it is a tricky thing. -
Multiple Corps Auditions “Urban Legend”?
jpaul replied to JimF-LowBari's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I don’t know that it’s “the majority”, but it’s not uncommon. Kids want to look around and see what different orgs are like and where they’re a good fit. I think the fact that many corps offer a less expensive video option makes it more feasible too. -
Actually, he’s Visual Coordinator.

"Organizations" aren't always aware of member-to-member actions/behavior.

I think it would be more fun to see corps remake a different corps’ show from the past. I bet you’d get some really different interpretations.

Yes...it IS, in fact, a threepeat...

We have the answer. -
The Executive Director is hired by the board. They’ve been working on this for at least a year.

Way Too Early DCI 2024 Discussion

I could see that being a concern if the ordinals reflected that judges were scoring that way. Have you looked at that mess of a recap? People were concerned that an 8th place corps couldn’t win drums. It happened 3 nights in a row. it would, however, make it harder to accurately compare groups that were very close (this year’s top 4) if they performed an hour apart from each other. -
Judges now have the opportunity to adjust their scores after the last performance of the night, so the whole "leave room at the top" doesn't really mean what it used to.

Why is Jersey Surf even still a world class corps?
jpaul replied to Mariana's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In an era when people constantly bemoan how few corps there are, why berate a corps that's out there doing it every year. If they're "barely maing semi-fials", doesn't that mean that they're in semi-finals? That's an accomplishment. The fact that they continue to put out an entertaining product and serve their members is an accomplishment. I think we need to allow corps to work to their ability and suppport and applaud them for doing so. -
I believe at least some of the guard staff had ties to Diamante. Could be something going on there.

West Side Story is so old

The broadway revival was meant to be updated. The Spielberg film appears to be set in the 50s. As much as I am a huge fan of the Jerome Robbins choreography, I also love Justin Peck's work and am excited to see his interpretation. -
Chip Crotts is leaving SCV - posted to his FB today.

Believe in yourself. Do your best. Learn some things. Meet new people. Have fun. Don't assume you won't make it or that you don't have the skills needed. Go in with a positive attitude, work hard and see what happens. You never know. Good luck!

New show announcements request

No. The concept of DADA doesn't meant of poor quality. It's nonsense, not meant to be understood. That would come into pay in the design and effect captions. Not so much in performance.
