  1. Is there a site that lists I&E winners over the years?
  2. I clearly remember us having an impressive array of electronic instruments in '88 from Yamaha for the guys in the pit and the arrangers to experiment with in preparation of the anticipated rule change.
  3. I wonder if the rosin pitchers use would help?
  4. I too was blown away by the 91 BD saber line for the same reasons and one other....I marched with some of those years in previous years. As far as I am aware, that was the first experience those girls had using weapons.
  5. I can't for the life of me remember who it was but mid eighties, must have been from the west, there was a guard with the white jumpsuits and caps that were spraypainted and looked like the fruit gum of the same era? Awful, Awful uniforms. I remember really liking Cadets unis through the eighties, especially '84. I look at them now and they are so much of that era. All the sparkle and ruffles, made the girls, who had to be obscenely fit, look short and heavy. They otally changed the meaning of a guard uniform by making it show specific and so unlike the corps proper.
  6. BD '88. That was the year that they didn't announce prelim scores. We were undefeated going into prelims and didn't find out we had lost until after finals. I don't recall our prelims placement but we came in third at finals. OUCH! Many thanks to the guys from VK 's drumline who graciously shared the Jack Daniels with me before retreat. I didn't realize how much I was gonna need it that night.
  7. A roommate my ageout year marched at least three corps: Alberta All Girls, Bridgemen and BD. At some point in her career she had also been in each section.
  8. You got through without being able to call home, because you were forced not to. Most members today have that option and still choose not to complain on the phone 24/7 outside of practice... maybe current members are stronger than you were? Quite possible, I am not particularly tough and I was even less tough when I started marching. Good for them being so mature. Just throwing an idea out there that seemed relevant to the topic. I'm glad you made the leap that we shouldn't have cellphones because they will lead to corps getting sued. Is that really the point? Do you really think that will happen? Actually, my point was that corps would have been sued way back in my day. Everything seems much more professional and organized today. I wasn't part of some small town, regional organization either. It just struck me that if parents had proof of all the things that went on during a "typical" drum corps tour of many years ago, the litigation could have gone on for years.
  9. I don't know about the other quote but you are inferring an insult from mine. I implied nothing. It was as big a surprise to me that I could do it.
  10. It's funny that instead of arguing your point, you use insults. I think a lot of young people would be like I was: afraid and insecure. I liked that I gained that confidence of having to face things by myself. If you don't need that, bravo to you. I don't think that you are helping your cause by being rude to others though (even if it is the standard on the forums)
  11. No, my parents didn't love me. I was raised by a roving band of corps members after I was found in a cardboard box, wrapped in old newspapers at a rest stop on the NJ turnpike. Actually, as a parent myself, I see my job as raising independent functional adults who won't need to move back home after college or need me to bail them out in general. I love my kids enough that I want them to be proud of being able to do things for themselves. Nutty idea, I know. Part of that is being away from me and handling adversity without me.
