  1. I forgot to add, my resurrected corps would be Suncoast Sound and our first show would have to be the Florida Suite while we worked on securing the original charts for corps song "The Greatest Love of All" (obviously transposing it for Bb).
  2. A friend and I were having a conversation about what we would do if we won that lottery from a few years ago and I thought, how cool would it be to start a corps in the same way that Bill Cook did with Star in the mid-80s. I got to thinking more about the subject and rather than start another corps, wouldn't it be better to resurrect an inactive corps that already has a rich history in the activty? VK comes to mind, as well as a few others. I know there were plenty of people that were super hyped when VK came back onto the scene a few years ago, keeping with a lot of their former tradition, I'd say they made their alumni proud. Assuming that you have a nearly infinite amount of money, could keep membership costs ridiculously low and buy your equipment and uniforms outright, which corps would you pick? How would you do it? New uniforms and a new name or bring back the old unis/old name(assuming you can, legally, after you pay of whatever debts they may have had). Would you go as far to build a rehearsal facility similar to the one Star of Indiana had during their active years? So, Who would you bring back to their former glory? (Is it June yet?)
  3. I don't think the activity would ever be the same after that.
  4. I've always liked Pioneer and I can definitely respect a corps that sticks to their values so unwaiveringly as they do, but I am curious to hear a bit more insight on this subject.
  5. Although, I will agree, this thread definitely does not qualify as "epic win", or even "win" for that matter, it just 'is'.
  6. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.

  7. People were too busy complaining about them rehearsing in other locations. lol
  8. I've used a Helleberg a few times, but I always revert back to my Perantucci. I bought a used Pt-50 in 2004 from our brass caption head, Matt Stratton, and instantly fell in love with my tone on the mouthpiece. The pt-50 was a requirement for our contraline, but money was tight so he helped me out by giving me a great deal. Less than a year later I bought a brand new gold plated Pt-88 and I have to say, it would take an act of congress to get my off that mouthpiece.
  9. 2008 Brass Feature. All day, Errday. The 2004 Hazo opener gets a solid honorable mention, as does Creep and the 2010 Tuba Soli.
  10. Fundraising idea: Open up the corps food truck outside of smaller venues and sell food to show-goers right out of the corps truck. If only this weren't looked at as a conflict of interests, the corps could definitely benefit from something like this.
  11. I think the activity will enevitably die (or evolve) long before a lack of football programs will have any effect. Like Mr. Boo said in his opening post, districts everywhere have arts on the chopping block and while they most have managed to slip by year after year, it's only a matter of time before the districts are forced to start making bigger cuts in order to balance their budgets. In my county, for instance, they cut everything but school arts projects last year when they were faced with a $50m deficit. Now here we are a year later, with a $26m deficit remaining and school music programs are at the top of a very small list of likely cuts. I theorize that it will start small, partially merging school bands to the point that they either share instruments and a director or a full on merger where the music students meet as some sort of afterschool elective, thus turning it into a community band. From there you can see how it would be a quick drop off. Of course, this is probably just me being overly cynical and pessimistic, but I don't see the future of arts in schools faring too well. As a future Music Educator, this scares the hell out of me because I'm too invested in my education to start over, but the fear of potentially never finding a job in my degree field has me wishing I could go back and choose another career path. Just my $.02 :(
  12. Favorite Overall: Probably Regiment, they tell such a beautiful story year after year and they never tie together weird songs with some obscure theme like some other corps tend to do. Favorite Music: I really enjoyed BD, musically they did a fantastic job this past season. Other corps of note would be Santa Clara, Madison, Crown, Bloo and Cadets. Favorite Drill: Cadets did so many cool things with their alternating colored uniforms. The Cavaliers left little to be desired, too. Favorite Opener: Bluecoats and Crown were both crowd pleasing openers, but then again, so was Phantom. I felt Boston had a pretty nice opener too, I for one enjoyed what they put on the field. Blue Knights had a cool opener, or prelude, whatever that Danny Boy entrance was. Favorite Closer: MADISON BABY!! Vanguard had an amazing closer too, I was on my toes until the last note finished ringing! Crown definitely brough the house down.
  13. I would be so happy to see Southwind come back, such a cool group of people!
  14. I literally came out of my seat to scream Vanguard during their finals performance and I was far from the only one! The show was definitely a crowd pleaser, but they needed another 2 weeks to clean it for the judge's sake.
  15. He might be out of luck, January is a bit late to audition for most world class corps, especially for a percussion spot.
  16. That really is a pretty cool program. Best of luck to you and your corps!
  17. Charging back onto the field with a vengeance, The Crimson Lancers 2012 program guarantees a to keep you on your feet! We are proud to announce our show, Dr. Who, featuring music from the hit BBC television drama of the same namesake. The A-corps is also proud to announce our plans for a 14-day European tour featuring 10 competitive performances! This will be entirely new experience for the Lancers, but just as we do with every aspect of our franchise, we will venture into the unknown ready to accomplish greatness. Lancer Cadets have also announced their 2012 program: Shifting Sands: The Music of Jerry Goldsmith. Featuring The Wind and the Lion, the Lancer Cadets push into their inaugural season headstrong and ready for anything! We would like to take this time to wish ALL of the competing corps the best of luck in the upcoming season and we hope to see you out there!
