  1. you're precious Nanci - your majesty - I do worry about you sometimes... My life right now is actually about what it should be for someone of my age... quiet... worrying more about 6 grandchildren than anything else... as it should be... We all on here have wonderful memories and preserving those memories is also important... "Guess Who" has given us the opportunity to do just that... almost 37,000 times... wow... I believe I know the banned one better than anyone on here and talk to him often... I still don't know all the particulars of the offense... The person responsible for having one of us banned has contacted me. I am willing to listen, but am still reluctant to get overly involved. My question all along has been "did the punishment fit the crime?" When and If I know what the crime was, I'll make the decision on that myself and act accordingly (or not act) In the meantime, I suggest strongly that we all "play nice" and continue to share our wonderful memories (while we still have them - mine are no where near as sharp as they once were) EVERYONE keep well and enjoy every day... Guess Who #1
  2. I leave you guys alone for a few days and someone actually puts the S7 name in print SHAME on you.... Bring back RAMD
  3. Got the last name right... but you're right... Konga would have laughed at that... I have to run off to just north of Baltimore till Sunday night... Since John Concannon was the really neat pic since he hasn't been around for 40 plus years... I'll give you Mr. Richardson's first name - Gary Richardson for the last few years has been the mainstay of Empire's A Section and this year Dansville White Sabers... He became quite well known in the very early 60's as one of Cru's "rifles with attitude" spinning and working with real guns (11 plus pounds I believe)... He's also a GREAT drum corps guy... Your Majesty, ball is back in your court... or mouse in your soda or whatever (if you're not on facebook - ask Nanci to explain that to you... it's pretty dang funny)
  4. if you think about how they made names in medieval times... you should have the last name...
  5. When King Richard I came back from the Crusades, he is rumored to have had a son...
  6. Thanks FSun As I reach another year older on Monday (this year I get to share that day with Columbus), I accept each year as a gift and am most thankful that I have again enjoyed the 6 grandkids for another year - and still looking forward to many more.
  7. Have just heard from our wayward son... had a conference with all his doctors to convince them he was well enough to come to Rochester... did not go well... HE lost the battle... and will not be going anywhere this winter except the local doctor's offices anytime soon... He gets to stay in his Florida DCP jail cell... guess that's better than Guantanamo Bay...
  8. funny thing... I never heard him called Jack... just John Concannon... he's doing well in retirement in AZ and was recently here in Rochester for a visit so the pic is recent lookin' good for an old fart John was DM of Grey Knights and came along to the merged super corps in 1965... GREAT guy... strong leader... Never underestimate the contribution of the Former Grey Knight members to the corps in '65... especially the horn line... Moving on to the guy on the right... closed his career recently as A section captain of Empire Statesmen... was a Crusader long before the '65 merge...
  9. nope not Harvey Martin either although the age is much closer... Andy has it... we send him a 21 gun salute using cannons...
  10. lol Boots was in diapers when this guy was a DM Andy.... is shooting straight
  11. Boots? Not sure I get that reference... Grey Knight Post Crusaders had 3 drum majors in 1965... Primary musical director Dr. Edward Mizma... chief judge chaser Vince Bruni... and the "show" major who gave all the commands etc. was this man on the left...
  12. big new clue to man on left... When he yelled "Mark Time March" he was DM and at that Hamilton Show in 1964 the problem was... he was supposed to bring up the horns first!!!!!!! and he forgot to do it... and YES they were supposed to play on the first step... It was one of the greatest disasters in the history of drum corps - and it was the end of the first tune before they pulled it together at all... However, that critical error aside - he was a fantastic drum major and is a great guy and joined with Vince Bruni and Doctor Ed Mizma as DM for my corps the following year
  13. lol I know how to post them on facebook... but forget how to post pics on here... if I send them to you can you post them?
  14. true Andy true.... but those in Hamilton Ontario in 1964... will NEVER forget that night... Hint #2 "MARK TIME MARCH" - oops....
  15. email me C Holland... and I'll send you some uniform pictures from the 50th anniversary DCA Gala tompeashey@gmail.com
  16. Geoff... as long as we have your attention... how's Tracy? I do miss you guys... and I would love to visit Vegas again and see you guys, but I too am suffering just a bit from terminal old age... and the lack of funds that goes with it... As for what happened with Don, considering his age and failing health, would it help if I spoke with John? I have made it clear that I'm not questioning that there was justification - but rather that all the circumstances may not have been considered before the execution was carried out. Finally, as one of the victims of Sal Chimera and several others back when... you know that I accept and welcome the comfort of a moderated forum... and the sanity it brings... as this thread approaches 40000 ... I would think that would give us at least the opportunity to discuss the situation further... even if it must be in private... Go to post #1 on this thread and open the picture... now if that doesn't bring a smile to your face, what will?
  17. nope... I assume you're referring to the current pic - answer is no ... neither were ever a dca official... I guess that I know who they are is a good first hint... hint for the guy on the left... This guy was GREY before his hair went GREY...
  18. Clark and my good friend Hugh Burritt (Fulton Gaucho soloist - Java - and instructor) were close and played in the Tonight Show orchestra under Doc Sevrenson... they were close and Hugh brought him into Oswego a few times... great guy ... Hugh was head of the music department at SUNY Oswego for many years...
  19. cool guys... and Ray... I hear you - as the one standing next to Vince Bruni in the parking lot of Clifton HS outside your buses as the beer bottles were broken... I appreciate your comments more than most... As I mentioned earlier, were Vince alive to read these comments, he would smile, say "Go Figure" and then give Donnie his bass drum back... Why? Because Vince knew his heart was always in the right place even if he had a definite problem with connecting his brain to his mouth... All that being said - and this is mostly for Jeff, my only argument is the severity of the punishment... Jeff, perhaps that term "lifetime ban" means a lot more to old farts like Don and I ... as we begin to deal with thoughts of the inevitable. A young guy like you with a beautiful young wife (Christine) and wonderful daughter to raise are a long way from having to live with that reality. I can tell you that Donnie can not read DCP on his home IP, but can on other devices by going around a few circles... but out of respect for DCP and GW and all of us, he declines to set up a new account under a different name - which he could easily do as long as he didn't log in from his main computer. Frankly, at this point, I don't know if he'd come back on DCP even if the ban was lifted. Considering his fragile health, it might be for the best. I hope the doctors relent and give him permission to fly home soon - so he can see his family and I can take him to breakfast...
  20. The only thing that bothers me is that his health SUCKS quite frankly (he'd admit that)... As a matter of fact he's fighting with the doctors to let him come home to Rochester to see the family and so far they're saying NO!!!! If he deserved it... so be it... but I'm just saying I never saw anything that I thought rose to that level and considering his health and his passion for the activity... like I said... it's a shame - and an aggravation he didn't need...
  21. Fran... to be precise... his name is Rob (Robert) Swindells - Visual Writer - co-corps director and drum major... and yes... the programs in Europe are fresh and quite well done... even though the corps tend to be a bit smaller... As DCA now exists... The 3 (and possibly 4 or 5) top corps in Europe and certainly Inspires are certainly finalists in any of the last 5 years or so, but I must add that the improvement in the DCA top 14 is marked and you never know what next year will bring... I do know that Kidsgrove is coming and that in itself is a real treat for all of us in the "New World" - I only wish The Company would join us sometime... they are a real treat...
  22. lol Ray, you have to remember the important thing - that 165# was 342# just two and a half years ago... As for Donnie bellowing "Viva Portland" lol... '65 he was just a child... NOW I remember Portland well... "VIVA PORTLAND"!!! BRING BACK THE DON!!!!!
  23. Jubal, The Company and Kidsgrove... as KS has proven are "middle of the pack" corps in DCA as they are, who could be serious contenders were they to write the show for just DCA sheets and work with the system throughout the year. Size is an issue only from the competing "apples to apples" point, but there is absolutely no question as to the quality of the design for their top corps in Europe... also their ability to translate that design into quality performance is excellent... I don't know who wrote the visual for The Company but they are very good... excellent pen for sure... Having worked closely with Rob Swindells of KS, I can tell you that not only is he a good DM and Corps Director (with his Dad)... He could write visual for ANY corps anywhere - quality pen transverses all activities whether marching band, DCA or DCI or DCUK or DCE or DCJ... Anyone looking to buy a drill should consider him. But he's not a drum corps bum, which means I doubt he has time for much in drum corps other than KS... he has a life - including a great family and is a high school principal in England... and I'll bet he's quite the taskmaster and runs the school with a strong leadership that has developed through the drum corps activity ...
  24. Ray, I'm fine... no more signs of internal bleeding... it's been since 8/1 when I spent 5 days in the hospital... so other than feeling a bit old - no real problems... (Knock on something) and the weight is stable... been 165 for over a year now... thanks for asking
