  1. So, Nemesis has some good points, IMO. Out of curiosity then, why do we even have different classes? I know that there used to be Div I/II/III and A and Open and such, but what is the difference? I know that there is corps size (150 and under, etc), but what else? Also, so why would a corps that is Open score 15-20 pts less on the World Class score sheets? I guess I don't really know what the difference is. If everyone was scored always on the same sheets, Blue Devils to Blue Saints, would there be a 40 pt difference? Sure. But why do we have classifications?
  2. I absolutely agree Mike! That is the way it should be done. I know that I am always willing to help out Pio with what I can from where I am. As far as Crests post, I think that is one of the reasons I like Pioneer so much. Is that it's not all about winning. It's about the experience and the education and the opportunities.
  3. Tom - Thanks for you post. That all makes sense to me. I was really just kind of curious. I didn't think that there was an automatic downgrade, but I thought that someone had posted it. But, like I said, I knew that probably was wrong about that. I just hope that the members can take some great, positive moments/memories away from this year. Keep forging ahead Pio!
  4. This is not the same topic that I started a while back...just to make that clear... Thank you Pioneer for being able to field a corps for 50 years and giving so much to so many students! Although your philosophy may not be that of other corps or fans, thank you for what you do! Yes, I am gonna be the first to ask, even though the prelims aren't even done. ( And please do not turn this into a personality bashing thread - AGAIN! ) I am just a former member, who loves the corps and am curious about a few things. I have some questions: since it looks like Pioneer is out of Semi-Finals, does DCI make them drop a class? I thought that someone had mentioned that in the old topic, that there could be something like this with some new rule changes. I could be way wrong and probably am. OR can they forge ahead and just continue to be an Open Class? Plus, I really hate to say this, but, since they didn't even get to semi's, do you think logically that this might hurt their chances for recruitment? I know that they are working on alumni relations, publicity, recruitment and the such, and I am in no way trying to be disrespectful at all as I love Pio (I marched there and want my son to march there someday), but could this be a deterrent to future prospects? I hope not, because, to me, Pioneer is so much more that first or last. BUT, we do know that is why DCI does scoring and it not all exhibition. Opinions? Comments?
  5. 58.6 tonight in Woodbury. They are getting better. I know that it is a long way to go, but there have been many nice things said about the smaller ensemble already. Keep it going kiddos!
  6. There are some legit questions and concerns on both sides. Now, I am gonna say some things that are not meant to be personal attacks on anyone. I am just stating my viewpoint. First - I work for a non-profit and we have to be clear and transparent about everything that we do. I do not know enough about how Pio is structured, but I do know that if you are questioning it, don't be passive aggressive about it. Just come out and address it with Pio. Not on a public forum. If you are curious as to how they are structured/organized/run, contact Pio. They, legally, according to 501c3 guidelines, have to reveal what they do and how. I know that we do. Now, I am not saying that there be some McCarthy campaign started. But, if anyone is truly curious, find it out. I am sure that Pio has nothing to hide. Second - I think that it has been said many times by many people that have some great ideas. But, instead of just lambasting the corps/leaders/etc., Help them out. I know that Roman can be, let's just say "set in his ways", but if you don't voice your opinion (the right way), you have no right to complain. That means, again, not just on DCP but with Pio and Roman. Third - I do know that Pio has been going out as often as possible to recruit others and as you heard from the webmaster there are very few real commitments from prospective members. Even at only $2K, that is still expensive to many people. There are always new avenues to venture down to help with this area. I do not know what has worked and hasn't for Pio. But, they are out and trying to get the name out there. Fourth - Pio is trying to reach out to its alumni. Some succesfully, some not. Hopefully, this will help down that road with finances, recruting, organization, etc. Fifth - I know that both sides want to see Pio succeed. Does anyone want to see another corps fold? No way! Can we all agree that there might be things differently that Pio should/would do if we were to run the organization...I think so. I, personally, would love to see Pio as Top 12 corps some day. Heck, I would be happy with Top 17 or even Top 21. Will they get there the way they are structured right now? I don't know. (Seems like I said that alot this posting) But, I do know that I will continue to cheer on Pioneer and their kids for years to come! Better Everyday!
  7. I just watched the video from Martin, TN. I gotta say...way to go MC! Great job on doing an ENTERTAINING show! Music that people know, can tap their toes to and that they will remember. Way to make an impact! Do well MC! Have a great season!
  8. Man, I would love to be able to march with Chops this year if I wasn't already oing to be gone for 4 weeks from my family, plus other weekend commitments and more. I am hoping that next yearI will finally be able to slow down a bit and finally march a full season.
  9. So, it's been a while since we have heard anything. I guess that this would be the same from any corps when inquiring minds want to know. - Have there been any other new hire announcements lately? - Does anyone know how camps have been going? - Any other news coming out of camp yet?
  10. Alright, now to change the subject slightly, not in a bad way either. I was watching Sportscenter this morning and saw that the Oakland Raiders have hired a new head coach. Just out of curiosity, no disrespect at all intended, but when they mentioned Al Davis (Raiders owner) I immediately thought of Roman Blenski. I can think of a few items that they might be alike on. What do you think?
  11. I know that there have been over 40,000 views on here. Granted, I think most of them are the same few of us that are just reposting or responding to previous posts, but it is nice to see everyone have an opinion on Pioneer. Thanks all! Keep it going!
  12. All right. Thanks for the heated debate, but belittling each other isn't what this post is about. I appreciate the debate, but when it comes down to remarks to call each other out, that is not acceptable. Let's either grow up or shut up. Anyways...How bout that Pioneer? Better Everyday!
  13. So, with all of the staff additions, some I know of, others I don't, does it seem like Pio is making the "right moves"? It is nice to see them taking their time in hiring. Which to me seems like they are trying to find the right people, not the right now people. What do ya think?
  14. Agreed. It does seem more...intricate, if you will, than what I think they have done in the past. I, too, hope that they bring the talent to pull this off. Either way, it should be interesting. Go Pio!
  15. I like the pieces when I saw/heard them on-line. All together, I am not quite sure yet. As it was stated earlier, it depends on which parts of each piece that Pio takes. I am just wishing them well! Bring it Pioneer!
  16. Alright. So, I keep hearing all of these staff announcements and I look forward with anticipation towards this next season for Pioneer and "Celebrate". I hope nothing but the best for them. Just keep truly getting better everyday! I look forward to 2011!
  17. Hey all! I just got a call from a parent in our community and she told me that the drumline instructor for the High School drumline just quit. I do not know why. So, they are left in quite a quandary right now. As far as I know, there is no show designed yet or anything, so the right person would have control, from my understanding. If you know of anyone in the Twin Cities area, please let me know ASAP! Today would be great! No idea of pay or expectations, but it is a good size group that has had decent success in the past! Let me know!

  21. All Hail! OAS! AAS! LLS! Beta Theta in Decata! (Decatur, IL)
  22. I have to agree, unfortunately. Who know though. I really hope that they blow away all of our expectations. I am still hoping for them to really be Better Everyday!
  23. First - Did I miss something? Are they adding Open Class to the mix? What does this mean? Second - Michael Boo - Maybe Pioneer will do Irish Club Style - I can hear it now, "Danny Boy oy oy oy Wicka Wicka oy oy oy, Greenfoshizzlesleeves, Garry "Owes Me Money" March and Rivercrunk!" Maybe they could pull it off!
