  1. Hate to get back on topic...but I think that the usual suspects (top 8) will have massive turn-out for their camps, with most of those kids not making their corps of choice (that whole 135 size limit). Most of these kids who dont make their corps of choice will not march anywhere this comming summer with the hopes that they will make that corps next year. At the same time, the quarterfinals corps from 06 will struggle to put 90 members on the field and be told by DCP posters that they cant compete with the big boys and that their show is too hard ect. Hate to sound cynical, but thats what happens.
  2. I have to throw in some love for our (Pioneer) warm up: The Last Rose of Summer as arranged by Rick Kirby! Everytime we played that, it just set the mood for me of focusing my energy to the show we're about to do. Plus when we did it in the domes, it echoed and sounded bad a##! ^OO^ Anthony
  3. I was a rook-out this year and I can tell you that money issues and college issues prevented me from marching before. At Pioneer, most of our age-outs were rook-outs, 6 of 10 to be exact. I would say money is the biggest issue in keeping people from marching until their last chance. Anthony
  4. I agree! As a member this past year, I would have loved to do a retreat...we didnt do any! I think thats a real shame. The closest to a retreat we did was the Champions Fanfare with a few different corps at the beginning of the season. If nothing else, have retreat for big shows as said earlier and at small shows where theres only 4-5 corps, as a bonus to the fans, especially in small towns to show the uniqueness of this activity.
  5. Hopefully this will make sense: Today in 2/3, the corps are scored on the same 'sheet' so a corps score can be compared across divisions, ie: a division 2 corps with an 80 has a lower score than a division 3 corps with an 81. Now, my question is, back in the day, early 90s, was this the same way? I was looking thru my DCI program from some years ago and saw that on a couple of occasions, the D 3 champ had a higher score than the D 2 champ ('97 for example). No offense to the D 3 champ, but I found that hard to believe considering the level of the scores (mid 90s) and the obvious size difference. Does someone have any insight? Thanks!
  6. Can anyone explain how DCI seeds corps for Div I quarterfinals? How about II/III? Thanks.
  7. I agree that a lot of people just dont want to see Div II/III corps and would rather see the corps that are household names in Div I. When I'm at a show I like to watch the warm-ups of the early corps then hussle into the stadium to see them perform their show. I did that at the DCI show in MD last summer and saw Jersey Surf warm up (cool) and then saw them light it up on the field (even cooler!). I guess a good thing that the members of the early corps can take from the small amount of people in the stands is that those fans are the true drum corps fans, they are the ones who dig everything thats going on and dont care if you have 20 horns.
