  7. Thanks to all those who have taken a look at our page. Please consider a donation to help us finish our brass line. We're rehearsing this weekend at Brentsville District HS in Nokesville, VA (also the site of "Sound of the South" on July 7). If you want to march this summer, this is your last call to join Virginia's only drum corps :)
  8. I am proud to announce the launch of our major fundraiser: Shenandoah Sound Brass Upgrade We are seeking to raise at least $5,000 to complete our brass line (new Bb King horns). We are using the social media platform Indiegogo. Everyone who donates will receive special recognition on our website and Facebook page. In addition, anyone who donates before July 5 will get special recognition in our program book for "Sound of the South" on July 7. Just like public broadcasting, we have perks for donations including show tickets, shirts, and other corps logo items. In the past few years, corps like Southwind and SoCal Dream have raised a lot of money on social media fundraising sites-we are hoping to repeat their success. Please consider helping us with a donation or spreading the word. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/118269?a=669239 Don't forget that we are hosting the first southern DCA show of the season on July 7. Come see us, Fusion Core, CorpsVets, and Carolina Gold for $7 (pre-sale) or $10 (gate) in Manassas, VA! Thank you for your support, Anthony

Second update: We recently purchased new Bb King horns. They are shiny Third update: In the next day or so, we'll be announcing a fundraising campaign to help us purchase more horns. Please stay tuned for details-your help will be greatly appreciated. Last update: We are working hard preparing for our home show on July 7 in Nokesville (Manassas), VA! 11. Sadly, Shenandoah Sound is different. On our first bus trip of the season, new members must individually sing "O Shenandoah" as best they can. While some members know all the words and have great singing voices, others struggle mightily and people in neighboring vehicles throw things at us! In all seriousness, we take great pride in making our corps family-friendly and very welcoming to all members. There is no tolerance for "hazing" or other abusive behavior.
  12. Oh yeah, we'll be there...as the "home" team! Does that get us a free pass to Finals?
  13. Our drumline will be performing today (April 21) at the Harris Pavilion in Manassas, VA. We'll be part of a larger musical afternoon in downtown Manassas. Our drumline performs at 1pm. Our next rehearsal is next weekend, April 28-29. We'll continue working on drill and show music. Limited openings in brass, pit, and guard...it's not too late to join!
  14. Not just cheaper, but easier on the schedule. DCA corps are weekends-only groups, so members can hold jobs during the week. On that note, I'll point out that my corps Shenandoah Sound is the only corps in the Washington DC area and we have brass and pit holes.
  15. Thanks-we look forward to seeing you all this summer. We will be rehearsing at Thomas Edison HS on Franconia Road in Alexandria, VA. Edison HS is the home base for several of our members plus our guard caption head. We'll be working on drill both days this weekend. Brass and pit players are still wanted!
  16. Some Shenandoah Sound updates: We had a great camp two weeks ago. Our battery is our strongest and largest ever. Our brass line spent the weekend working on show music written by Robert W. Smith. Mr. Smith is writing our entire brass book based off his own work, "Promising Skies." Another big name in DCA, Vic Kulinski, is writing our battery book. Our guard had the weekend off because many of them were competing at the AIA indoor guard championships. We still have openings in brass, pit percussion, and guard. If you have a desire to work hard and contribute to the corps, we'd love to have you! Our next rehearsal is this weekend, April 14-15. facebook.com/shenandoahsound twitter.com/sounddrumcorps
  17. We've been plugging along this winter working on music and marching as we head towards the summer. We have the largest drum line in corps history and a guard that may be our best ever. We still have openings in brass and pit percussion. The corps will be rehearsing this weekend March 31-April 1 at Brentsville District HS in Nokesville, VA. Nokesville is just south of Manassas, VA which is an easy drive from all parts of Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland. It's not too late to join. If you've been cut somewhere, we'd love to give you the chance to march. www.ShenandoahSound.org for details You can follow us at facebook.com/shenandoah sound and on twitter @sounddrumcorps
  18. Shenandoah Sound-the only drum corps in Virginia-will kick off its 2012 performance season with an appearance at the Alexandria St. Patrick's Day Parade TOMORROW, March 3. The corps has been participating in this parade for years and the members are excited to perform. If you're at the parade, you'll see a "lite" version of the corps because most of our HS members have all-district/region events this weekend. We still have openings in brass, pit, and guard. Visit www.ShenandoahSound.org or Facebook.com/shenandoahsound for more information!
  19. Two of our brass members from the last couple years will be marching in a top-12 drum corps in 2013. They learned the activity with us and are off to college this summer and plan to audition at some big-name corps for next season. I have no doubt they'll make it based on their talent and experience with us. We are more than happy to introduce someone to the activity. We've had a bunch of middle (yes, middle school) and high school students get their first real taste of drum corps with us. We are also thrilled to reintroduce folks to the activity-people who maybe marched back in the day who want to march again.
  20. As some other folks have mentioned, there is an active, competitive DCA corps in Manassas-Shenandoah Sound. Our membership is about half high school students (from PW County and Southern MD) and half adults (from NoVA and MD). We have all-state band students, first-time marchers, and several folks who have marched DCI Division I corps. We were 8th in DCA Class A last year and we're working towards making Class A finals this year. Our music is being written by Robert W Smith this year. The biggest difference between us (or any DCA corps) and DCI, is time. We rehearse and perform only on weekends so you would have time for school, job, family, etc. Our dues and expenses are less than half what you'll pay for a DCI World Class corps. There are no DCI corps in DC, Virginia or Maryland. The closest DCI corps to NoVA are the Cadets, Jersey Surf, and Raiders.
  21. Virginia's only drum corps, Shenandoah Sound, is holding it third camp of the 2012 season this Sunday, Jan 29 at Brentsville District HS in Nokesville, VA. Join us from 10am-5pm and learn about the only corps based in the Baltimore/Washington area. Spots are still open in all sections. For more information please visit www.ShenandoahSound.org or contact me directly (PM or email).
  22. Harry was the "wagon master" for the '06 Pioneer and he was a fantastic drum corps photographer, immortalizing countless performances over the years. We lost a good one.
  23. In addition to returning Percussion Caption Head David Salisbury, Bill Hubbard and Robert Leonard are joining the drum staff for 2012.
  24. Shenandoah Sound is proud to announce its 2012 field show: Promising Skies, based on the Robert W. Smith composition of the same name. Promising Skies takes the listener on a musical journey through New Orleans, Louisiana before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The show features New Orleans-inspired jazz and a lush ballad depicting the danger of the storm and courageous recovery of the city after the storm. The corps is also excited to announce that Robert W. Smith will be writing the brass book for the corps. Robert W. Smith needs no introduction-he is a world-renowned composer and veteran of the drum corps activity who has written and instructed Suncoast Sound, Magic of Orlando, and the Madison Scouts among other top DCI corps. Returning staff members include caption heads T.J. Agee (brass), Heather Schmidt (color guard), and David Salisbury (percussion). In addition, brass and visual technician Keyo Wilson will be returning to the corps for his second year. Shenandoah Sound is under the direction of Sean Peck. For more information about Shenandoah Sound, please visit the corps’ official website www.ShenandoahSound.org or contact Public Relations director Anthony Fiumara at PR@ShenandoahSound.org
