  1. Shenandoah Sound will host its 2012 Open House tomorrow from 10-5 at Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, VA. We've been talking about this event for months and we're less than a day away! Members of the 2011 corps gathered tonight for what we hope becomes an annual event-a post-season banquet. We will announce our 2012 show to our members tomorrow and I'll post an official announcement on DCP tomorrow evening. You won't believe who's writing our show! We are Virginia's drum corps!
  2. SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! 10am-5pm at Brentsville District HS in Nokesville, VA is our Open House! Come learn about Virginia's only drum corps and hear who will be arranging our 2012 show!
  3. We are one week away from Shenandoah Sound's 2012 Open House! We will start our season on Sunday, December 11 at 10am at Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, VA. We have seen a rise in interest especially from folks in Maryland who want to come march with their local drum corps! We will be introducing our staff, all of whom are returning! Our show and arranger is set and we will make our official announcement to the members at open house before posting it here. People who think they know Shenandoah Sound will be in for a surprise when we make the announcement. Shenandoah Sound is Virginia's drum corps and the only corps within 100 miles of Washington, DC.
  4. I'm sitting on a bunch of great information about 2012 that I can't wait to share. We have a lot of great things planned. We've had a bunch of success with band show recruitment including expanding our reach more into Maryland. We've been accepted into the Prince William Arts Council and I just wrote a "corps bio" for a new summer performance we'll be doing in the community. We'll also be performing at the Manassas Christmas Parade on December 4. Open house is still scheduled for December 11 at Brentsville District HS in Nokesville, VA. 10am-5pm
  5. http://www.dci.org/audition/ Click on the age-out calculator if you have questions. Go march!
  6. Venue change for our open house. We are very fortunate to have a great working relationship with two high schools. We are moving our open house to Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, VA. Same time, same date: December 11, 10a-5p. This is the venue where we held our Sound of the South drum corps show last season. BDHS' band director, T.J. Agee is our drum major and brass caption head.
  7. Shenandoah Sound is proud to announce its Open House for the 2012 season! The event will be on December 11 from 10-5 at Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, Virginia. Come learn about Virginia's only drum corps! There is a $25 registration fee that covers lunch and will be deducted from your season dues if you decide to stay with us. Brentsville District HS 12109 Aden Road, Nokesville, VA For more information, please visit www.ShenandoahSound.org Facebook.com/ShenandoahSound Twitter @SoundDrumCorps Edited to reflect change in venue
  8. Yep..we will be at TOB Chapter V Championships at Liberty High School in Eldersburg, Maryland this Saturday! I haven't been to Chapters since 2002 so I'm excited! I hope to meet many more Maryland band students and parents. We have a lot of talent up here so I hope to bring them to the corps! If you live in the Frederick/Baltimore area, come to the show-great bands competing for a championship!
  9. I met some nice folks at the Walkersville show and got to present a trophy on behalf of the corps (too bad the band that won my award left early to go to Salisbury for another show!). Thanks to Jeff Ream for stopping by and saying hi. I hope you enjoyed your visit to my old high school!
  10. I was in the drive-thru at the Burger King in Ellicott City, MD one morning. I was stopped, waiting for my turn to drive to the window and pay when the lady behind me gets out of her car and knocks on my passenger side window. She saw my various bumper stickers and told me that she loves DCI.
  11. Shenandoah Sound Drum & Bugle Corps will be out and about the next two weekends recruiting at local marching band shows. Today I will be in Walkersville, MD (my hometown) recruiting at Walkersville High School's Battle of the Bands, a TOB show. We will also have members in Oakton, VA at the VBODA show there. Next weekend, I will be visiting Liberty High School in Eldersburg, MD as they host TOB Chapter Championships. If you're in the area, stop by for great marching band action and say hi to Shenandoah Sound.
  12. I got beaten to the punch, but you have a corps close by-Shenandoah Sound. If you have your heart set on Cadets2, then go for it, but you have a local corps with local members right here.
  13. It might make sense to stay in Annapolis during DCA weekend and then move to a hotel in Prince George's or Montgomery County for your DC vacation. That way, it'll be a short Metro ride into the District. I'm not familiar enough with the Annapolis are to give a recommendation on specific hotels though.
  14. We hope to see you all back in 2012. Congrats on the arrangement with the college! That sounds fantastic for your members and organization!
  15. The Spirit of the Sound Scholarship is an annual award presented to a dedicated high school or college-aged member who demonstrates that music is a life-long activity through their inclusion of musical endeavors along with their role as a student and a well-rounded member of the community. From the scholarship's application: "A principle Shenandoah Sound goal is to provide an opportunity for individuals to actively participate in music throughout their lives. To meet that goal Shenandoah Sound is offering the Spirit of the Sound Scholarship to promote personal and musical growth through performance in the drum corps activity." I am proud to announce that the recipient of this year's award is Ricky Nuñez, a second-year snare drummer from Manassas, Virginia. Ricky is a hard-working member who is also drum captain at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas. Ricky's scholarship is worth $500, which he can use for educational purposes (tuition, test fees, etc.) or towards drum corps dues at Shenandoah Sound or a competitive DCI corps. Ricky was presented with his award at our home show on July 2 in Manassas. The scholarship is open to all high school or college-aged members who complete at least one full season with Shenandoah Sound. For more information about the scholarship, or for membership information, please visit www.ShenandoahSound.org or message me.
  16. Thanks. I agree that this was our best offering ever. We're aiming for Finals in Annapolis and to get there, we'll need to continue to grow and perform at a higher level. We embrace the challenge! The last two years have seen us present more mature, crowd-friendly shows, and you can bet we'll continue that trend for 2012!
  17. Shenandoah Sound will be at Edgerton Rec Center/Park at 41 Backus Street. Friday: 10-2 Saturday: 8-10:50 If we can find 10 points, there might be a Sunday pre-finals rehearsal
  18. Well considering that most folks in the DC area who march DCA drive 4-7 hours to NJ/PA/NY to rehearse with their corps, driving 45 minutes through Northern VA is nothing. I will say, as someone who travels 65 miles to rehearsals (from MD), traffic is rarely an issue since everything we do is on the weekends. We really are the local corps for the DC Metro Area.
  19. I believe Shenandoah Sound is at the Hyatt across the street from the Convention Center. A Hyatt that charges $10/day for internet access
  20. Shenandoah Sound is a serious and competitive DCA corps right outside Washington DC. Our base of operations is in Prince William County, Virginia-just outside the beltway. We have members from Northern Virginia, and parts of Maryland. Yes, we're small-but we're a growing organization. We're in the middle of our most successful competitive season ever. Let me know if I can provide you with any more information. Send me a PM or email the address in my sig.
  21. I felt it at work in Ellicott City, Maryland. What actually happened was our bass line was practicing the cadence...
  22. I think they'd like your assessment of their age
