  2. We have a massive opportunity to help give national exposure to the drum corps activity. Our documentary "Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood" is coming out on the iTunes Movie store on Tuesday. If enough digital copies sell from now through it's opening week, we could land the film on the American documentary chart for iTunes. If that happens, it will get people who know nothing about the drum corps subculture to sit up and pay attention. Pre-order it now for only $10 and help drum corps reach the mainstream! 4. I'm looking forward to having a beer with thirdcoast at the Drums On Parade Tailgate.
  5. I chose the Scouts because in your face drum corps is what I love and heck I'm a Scout and that was a huge night for all of us. That being said I also loved '93 Star for what they brought to drum corps- the next step in drum corps design not unlike BD brought to drum corps in '76. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that both corps marched their ##### off and the one thing both shows had in common was that Todd Ryan was the head M&M instructor in both shows.
  6. Any reviews from last night in Anaheim or from last week in Edmonton? We have another 2 1/2 weeks before the showing in Madison.
  7. I know for sure there was at least one front line member in each of the following sections: banner, honor guard, snare, multi tenor, and single tenor. These are just members I know of, I wasn't able to meet all 423. We did have a member marching glockenspiel who had marched '58 thru '61(you can see him in the rehearsal photos) but unfortunately he had an injury and couldn't march the parade.
  8. With 243 horns that may not be possible. Lets hope.
  9. To ask what the Scouts alumni base feels about what direction the corps should go is like asking what the people of the United States feel about politics. Some feel we should screw tradition and play the game of cluttering the field with crap and write a drill around dodging said crap. Some say bring back the 75 or 88 show "with a modern touch" and scores be ######. I'm in the middle somewhere and as an optimist think that entertainment value will eventually trump all in DCI. To me that means music will again drive shows and get the most value on the GE sheets. I hope the Scouts will move to the top again with people leaving the show feeling the Scouts were not only the most entertaining but also the best corps on the field that night. Now if the judges could just have a sit down with me I'm sure we could get it all straightened out.
  10. I think the reunion project had around 250 members. I do remember that there were about 125 horns in '06 and there will be about 250 horns in Macy's. Watch out NYC, it will be loud. There will be 130 of the current 150 marching so that helps with the numbers.
  11. I'm sure there are maybe 10% of us 475 members marching in Macy's that read this dribble and I'd predict that 99% of them are as disgusted with the 2 or 3 alumni on here that I am. Hey guys why don't you grow up and STFU. Have a great week of rehearsal this week my brothers and I'll see you at the movies on Thursday. GO SCOUTS!!
  12. I couldn't agree more. Until the judging sheets are changed this is what you'll get with every corps. You get credit if you do it thus get penalized if you don't. IMHO it adds nothing but an opportunity for discussions like this on how stupid it looks. Just think how much time is wasted by all corps during the course of a year on all the hip wagging.
  13. I believe it should read "someone seems"......Only one person has listed his total disappointment in the Scouts for falling below his acceptable "Blue Star" line. Believe me this is not the opinion of die hard Scout alumni. Numerous Scouts have been members and staff of the Blue Stars and have many friends who have marched in the Blue Stars. As someone who grew up in an era when there were more drum corps in Wisconsin than you could count I have always cheered for all Wisconsin corps. Best of luck to the Blue Stars this year wherever they end up and here's hoping the Scouts can make the changes needed to push back up in the "standings".

  15. Well said my younger brother. Just know that for every alumnus who no longer has your back there are thousands of us who do. It always upsets me that the most vocal "back in my day was the only way" people are from my era. I also always try to remind them that when we were marching I never once heard someone from 35 to 40 years before our time tell us that those rotors and valves, contras, tympanis, keyboards and any other new fangled stuff that were new in our day were destroying drum corps or if only we could've used REAL bugles and slept in pup tents then WE would know what real drum corps was. No, the alumni were so proud of us in '75 they had tears in their eyes when they'd be at rehearsal. Know that 99% of us do have your back and can't wait for the 2014 Scouts to hit the field in Madiosn on June 28th. I hope I have the honor to march with you this Thanksgiving in NYC "JuryDefender".
  16. I work the building industry and there is a term used for unnecessary "add ons" to projects that architects are famous for that add absolutely nothing to the project except cost and an ego boost to said architect - "fish ####" (breasts). It seems to me that there are more and more "fish ####" added to drum corps shows that add nothing to the show except little check marks on a judges sheet.
  17. I remember after we won DCI in 1975 (38 years ago last night)Dave St.Angel said "tonight gentlemen you are the best in the world at what you do - enjoy it". That still sticks with me, the years and years of work of all the members, management, staff, and volunteers is rewarded with more than anything else a great great sense of accomplishment.
  18. Okay I'm going to cheat: My 2 things that need to change: 1.)Narration - GONE. Crown has such a beautiful show ruined by Narration apparently put in to appeal to junior high girls. 2.)The sheets: Music/Melody has to be given way more credit and hip thrusting and ### wiggling need to go. How does BD get put in first for G.E. Visual when they march 1/3 of the show and the rest they run around in mobs - WTF is that.
  19. Judges for the show: Contest Coordinator: Tony DiCarlo Chief Judge: Daniel Niebauer Color Guard: Daniel Niebauer GE Music: George Boulden GE Visual: Scott Pizani Music Analysis: John Pipitone Music Brass: Brian Taylor Music Percussion: Jeff Prosperie Visual Analysis: Richard Burke Visual Proficiency: John R Carlisle
